Two Americans who fled to Canada to avoid fighting in Iraq are due to be deported back to the US. They are pleading with our Supreme Court to be allowed to stay, claiming persecution if they're forced to go back.

Keep them. Perhaps they could become future fire fighters or police, but they may not be inclind to show up if there is a problem. |

Do whatever you damn well please with them. They are on your soil, and your problem. If the tables were turned, America would tell Canada to stick it where the sun don't shine. |

Personally I think it depends on the type of punishment the States would give them. If they would get a harsh sentence then I think they should be allowed to stay here and serve a less harsh sentence. I think 6-12 months sounds about right. They weren't selling State secrets, they just chickened out, and quite frankly why not, I wouldn't go to war , I don't want to get killed. I am not some macho go fight type of person. I DO think they should get some sort of punishment as they were not drafted, but volunteerily joined the services, to reap the benefits no doubt of free education and medical care, so, they DO owe their country back pay too! |

I think they should be returned to the US. And, then serve their time for desertion (perhaps 6 months), and then get their dishonerable discharges, which should exclude them for any job like police, firefighter etc. |

I think that they should be sent back, put into the National Guard, be allowed to just forget the whole thing then after they find Jesus they can be elected President. Ken |

I though he only found Monica and Paula, and now you say he found Jesus! Wow Willie is truly slick, he had his fun with Monica and Paula and secured his place in heaven with Jesus. Lately he's been hanging around with the Bush clan, I guess he wants to make sure he has the Devil covered as well.

All in keeping with the Jim Bakker/Jimmy Swaggert/Garner Ted Armstrong School of Soul-Management handbook. As a young guy in Sixties Canada, I was very much in sympathy with the Draft-Dodgers that came up here. BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT. Nobody held a gun to their head at the Recruiting Office, no anonymous brown-shoe'd Federal Dick told them they HAD TO join. Once you join, and are trained, YOU ARE ON THE TEAM! And this is "letting the team down", to the most serious degree. The only reason I have to refuse to send someone back to face the music is if they are subject to the Death Penalty in their country of origin - and this is a long way off that. Turn them over...... |

:preach: Pent What if it was a heartfelt, religiously based belief, that it was a UNJUST WAR.. A war that would take the lives of innocence while not supporting a just cause... |
