Chapter N Rashimo Utsubi sighed as he walked the old path to his cabin at the other side of The Crystal Plains. He didn’t have any Pokémon of his own and thus, traveled without any Pokémon to protect him. As the sun set, the chilling air of the night struck him like a needle, piercing his skin and seeming to freeze his bones. He muttered a curse, wishing he’d worn more than just his navy blue hoodie. He pulled up his hood to block out the cold winds of Winter. As he approached the middle of the plains, the sun had gone down and the moon had risen. A full moon that cast an eerie glow on the tiny ice crystals that crunched under the heavy steps of his boots. How he hated Winter, yet loved it at the same time. I should’ve at least brought a sleeping bag… he thought as he pulled a small credit card-like object out of the pocket on his hoodie. Pressed a button on the card and threw it into the path in front of him. In a series of invisible mechanical noises, a set of four glowing red lights began to glow a couple feet in front of him. With a sigh, he stepped onto what was a hover board as it clung to his boots. With just a few swift movements he set the board in motion, constantly sliding it from right to left in a serpentine movement that propelled the floating piece of black metal. The wind blew his hood off, revealing the pale blond hair that wildly thrashed about in the vacuum created by the air flowing around his body. Rashimo quickly shook a thought away as he glanced to the messenger bag hanging off his shoulder before turning his focus back to the path in front of him. Something up ahead caught his attention as he sped toward it…or most likely sped toward him. In the blink of an eye the glowing pair of red eyes blurred past in a shape he never thought he’d see in his life. In the same moment he saw it, the blur disappeared behind his back. He turned himself in a one-eighty as he continued to move in the same direction, staring into the distance. He could’ve sworn he saw the Legendary Pokémon Suicune. With the cold wintry winds came a bloodcurdling howl. Shifting his attention back in his current direction of travel, he turned the board back around as he followed the path. His eyes focused on the brown speck in the distance. As he drew closer, he slowed to a halt in front of a shivering Eevee. Without a second thought, he poked its head lightly. It looked up at him with a sad face before giving off a soft cry of pain. That was when he noticed the bleeding leg. He couldn’t just leave it out in the cold. With a sigh, he picked up the wounded Pokémon and continued toward the glowing lights in the distance. “Cold out here. Isn’t it?” were the first few words Rashimo said since he’d started for home. Though home would be the very least of his concerns when the sun rose. He knew that each second, a power grew ever stronger. On the other side of the endless white void was an ancient temple built into a mountain. The entrance was blocked by a strange ice. An ice almost as crystal. This ice barrier extended far into the unknown darkness. Everyday, his father along with many others would study this ice, wondering what secrets might lay behind it. Because this temple was so far from civilization, all who worked around the site also lived near it. Rashimo knew he’d receive a warm welcome. He could already imagine his parents asking him about what had happened during his day in town over a nice, warm meal. Of course, he’d just noticed the deathly silence that hung over the site. The lights weren’t on either. Darkness covered the trailers and cabins as thick blanket of black. The only light Rashimo had after the sun fell wasn’t even a light. A simple pair of night-vision goggles that had a battery which only lasted for roughly five hours--just slightly more than enough time to travel from one end of The Crystal Plains to the other. His heart sank. There was always a light on, even when no one was around. The site had an “indestructible,” transmission tower with a glowing red light on top. The light being generated by the actual electricity flowing through the wires meant that as long as the tower was active, the light would be on. The one thing incredibly different was the temple. The ice that blocked the entrance was gone. But then he took notice of the bloodstains. Blades were skewed about the area. Remnants of a rather large Pokémon battle as well. A few of the mobile homes were trashed and likewise for the majority of the cabins. A Pokéball or two lying in the snow. His father’s jacket. A note had been tacked to the cabin in which he and the rest of his family slept. Rashimo We have made a groundbreaking discovery! The ice of the temple melted when it was hit by the light of a laser pointer. We’ve gone into the temple to see what’s inside, just so you know. There’s some food in the refrigerator, in case you’re hungry. If we aren’t back by sunrise, then call headquarters IMMEDIATELY. Dad With a sigh, Rashimo brought the Eevee into the cabin and tended to its wounded leg. The pleasant warmth of the fireplace filled the single room cabin. Thankfully, the inside of the cabin looked untouched. He couldn’t imagine what he would’ve done if the cabin was filled with who-knows-what. However, Rashimo didn’t plan to sit around until sundown--he knew something had happened and that most likely not a soul had a escaped. Quickly finding his heavier “snow clothes,” he donned the silver vest with orange lines around the side and stepped into a layer of synthetic mountaineering pants, tucking them into a pair of heavy black boots. The black and white beanie covering the majority of his yellow hair. As he secured his snowboard gloves, he reached into the cupboards, searching for anything he figured might be of use. As Rashimo began to leave with a laser pointer in hand and fresh batteries in his night-vision goggles, the Eevee seemed to recover instantly, chasing after him as the two set off into the temple. Rashimo had taken the care to pick up a spare pickaxe along the way--mainly for self-defense The ice was melted into a long path that led for what seemed to be hours. Only the echo of their footsteps made any noise. Rashimo seeing nothing but an endless tunnel and the poor Eevee only being led by the sound of the blond boy’s footsteps. The end of the tunnel was a simple dead end. Compelled to search further, he pointed the laser toward the dead end and pressed the button, expecting a red dot to begin melting the ice. Though Rashimo had made the mistake of not replacing the laser’s battery; no lights. The crackling of ice met his ears as he turned around to see the ice somehow filling the tunnel at a rapid pace. Everything was somehow freezing over. “This is just not my day!” he shouted, swing the pick at the wall he thought thinnest. Only managing to chip away tiny pieces of the ice he quickly found himself frozen solid in the middle of a swing, mouth open as if to shout. The frightened Eevee was frozen by his feet as it shied away from the ice, but was caught when it bumped into Rashimo’s leg. The human holding a look of determination, while the Pokémon showed fear. Though it was apparent to both they’d meet their frozen demise. |

Chapter N is the equivalent of saying Chapter 0, which basically means "Prologue." Sometimes people use that as a roman numeral for zero. |

Chapter I (Four years later…) {Human Perspective} “Rashimo, you do know you aren’t supposed to be in the house, right?” his sister asked, scratching the Lucario behind the ear before digging through her white and blue wardrobe. Rashimo had been turned into a Lucario shortly after he was frozen, meanwhile the Eevee had stayed the same and was currently asleep on Llia’s bed. He blamed his transformation and the new homes that the “villagers,” were all placed in on Suicune, figuring it had something to do with the Legendary Pokémon, seeing as it was headed away from the “village,” that was the temple site. The main mystery Rashimo was focused on at the moment was how any of this happened. “Lucar!” Rashimo answered cheerfully. He hated digging into people’s minds to tell them things and more often than not, just refrained to average Pokéspeech—the language of Pokémon if they had one. He also knew the rules Llia’s parents set down about him. As of being turned into a Pokémon, Rashimo was just the family pet and a cute mascot of his sister’s foster brother. “Hey, shouldn’t you be at some sort of fighting tournament right now?” Llia asked as she pulled out a dress that radiated with the pink hue seen on a fine pearl. “So what’re you doing home anyway?” “Lu-cario,” Rashimo said. He could care less about a stupid tournament—they all knew he’d win in the end, so why bother? He had enough trophies to prove he was The Milleson Family’s prized Pokémon. The mansion had a library in the basement—one of the few places Rashimo could be without breaking the “no dangerous Pokémon in the house,” rule. And the library was where he intended to do his research. “Hey wait…” Llia placed the dress on her bed, raising an eyebrow as she looked at Rashimo. “Do you hear that?” She looked out the window to hear a car door closing. “Get outta here, hairball! If Mom and Dad find you in my room I’m in huge trouble!” With that, she firmly pushed him at the door and closed it behind him. Rashimo, startled by his younger sister’s amazing push, had little time to react to the railing about to hit him in the face and rather than stopping, leapt over it, landing flat on the bottom floor with a heavy thud. In a daring stroke of either amazing intelligence or just stupidity, he used his Flash Cannon attack to trash the central room which led to all the halls, which in turn led to all the areas of the building. He also took the care to smash the skylight, suggesting something broke through it and attacked from above. Not only that, he forced open the front doors with a Brick Break, effectively showing that the assailant escaped. The last touch was adding to the pain he’d received from the landing--an easy task. He simply use his Hi-Jump Kick repeatedly, making it appear as if he had been defeated in a battle. He then let himself fall flat near the busted double doors. Brilliant. “What happened here?” Mr. Milleson shouted as his wife gasped. The two had just seen the damage Rashimo caused, seconds after he’d created the believable scene. “Honey, you tend to Rashimo’s wounds while I go see if Llia’s alright.” With that, Mr. Milleson took off, bounding up the partly decimated stairs. “Car…” Rashimo struggled as he rolled out his position on the floor, leaning back on his hands as he watched the middle-aged man swing open the white door. “Eh? What’s—” the man’s sentence was interrupted as he screamed in fear of something that had to be in Llia’s room. Mr. Milleson failed to exit the room afterward and it didn’t seem Llia was even in the room. That was what brought Mrs. Milleson to go see what had happened and she met a most likely similar fate as neither left. Rashimo knew something was most definitely wrong by now. With a sigh, he managed to pull himself out of his act and made his way up the splintering stairs, charging straight into the bedroom of his little sister. Of course nothing was there but an empty white void. Not a single thing existed beyond the door. The only thing besides the void was the steady wind that blew out at the awestruck Lucario who silently closed the door with a look of confusion. Right… Normally it’d be to the library, but in this case I’ll need the internet. Rashimo thought with a sigh. Or I could just go ask that Alakazam about this. With that, he ran off, toward the inner sanctums of The Milleson Estate. Rashimo’s light footsteps echoed through the large halls as he walked, scanning the doors. Each door in the mansion had its own marking and after nearly a year of memorization and wandering the halls, he’d finally managed to know them by heart. Finding the door he was looking for, he opened it and stepped into a courtyard with several artificial waterfalls. The two long rectangles of flowers on either side were organized in a gradient from satin white to crimson red, then to a lavish purple flowing into ocean blue and finally returning to the same white. The organized statues and fountains along the grass path were neatly organized in a two-to-one pattern. This sanctum served as more than a simple place for meditation. It was also where Rashimo went to train. Knowing the courtyard like a book, he stepped over to the shallow pond in which the waterfalls poured, sending the water on a winding course through the two flower fields and across the path at organized intervals, leaving an even number of small wooden bridges. Having developed less of an aversion to water than when he first became a Pokémon, he calmly crossed the stepping stones and passed through the waterfall into a natural cavern, lit by torches along the walls. The sounds of various Pokémon sparring with each other echoed through the cavern and mixed with the roaring hiss of the waterfall. The cavern was more or less a place to hang out for Rashimo as well as the many other Pokémon that dwelled within the mansion. The various cries and cheers of the Pokémon were very plentiful, showing just how many different Pokémon The Milleson Family had in their home—another way to show off their wealth. Under all the commotion Rashimo’s footsteps were virtually silent if they weren’t already. At the very end of the long tunnel that curved as it spiraled further into the ground, seeming to have no end. Though eventually, the tunnel stopped, the pond above being clearly shown along with the ocean-like environment beyond. Rashimo had never gone this deep into the cavern and as such, every wondrous detail was new to him. He knew that there was no such thing as a dead end in The Milleson Estate, the mansion being littered with secret passageways to rooms that could be reached in no other way. Though not all of these secrets were pleasant. At one time Rashimo had opened a door to find a wall of water suspended behind it, waiting for a hapless victim to set it loose. With a sigh, he ran his hand along the wall and checked his surroundings time and time again. Almost as he began to give up hope, he noticed something peculiar about the golden plaque. “What exists in the senses does not always exist in the space. Yet the eye does not deceive. A wall truly stands before you.” Immediately picking up on the plaque’s meaning, he walked into it, passing straight through a wall that didn’t exist and straight into what appeared to be a shrine, laden with candles and an alter. There the wise Alakazam stood, deep in thought, yet acutely aware of its company. It turned to look at the Lucario that had figured the riddle placed on the plaque. |

I totally thought that you'd make Rashimo a Typhlosion instead of a Lucario. XD 'Course, I'm not complaining since Lucario is my fave Pokemon. :3 Uh, yay for the Void of Eternal Whiteness? O_o |
