Chapter 2 (In Riveing and Kiero’s tent, that night) Riveing awoke, to hear voices outside the tent. He began listening to the conversation. “I don’t quite remember our master’s son.” One of the voices said, quietly. “You don’t? We were all together almost every day we were home, and besides, the term ‘master’ makes me feel like some sort of slave.” Another voice whispered. “I remember the kid, vaguely…he was a lot smaller back then, though.” Another voice said. “I wonder if Riveing could defend himself if we attacked him…” One of the voices said. (alright, now either way, it’ll be sort of confusing, so I won’t say which voice says what, since they aren’t labeled anyway.) “I doubt it. He is after all, only human. Even if he is strong, it wouldn’t help very much.” “I can’t believe you’d even think of such a things, are you proposing we attack the poor boy, just to see if he can defend himself?” “Let’s face the facts, we aren’t always going to be around, for him.” “I’ve watched him carefully, over the years. He usually leaves his tent, early in the morning and goes someplace quiet, then starts playing around with this wooden ball. He kicks it, so it stays in the air.” “He kicks that thing? I didn’t think he could manage that.” “So? That doesn’t mean he can really fight.” Riveing got out of his sleeping bag and stretched, accidentally giving himself a charley horse. He sat there for a minute, until the pain stopped, then got out of the tent, expecting to see someone. Nobody was there, except Dragonite, Charizard, Sceptile, and Feraligatr, gathered around a fire. At first, he stood there, processing the fact, that he could tell what his pokemon were saying, then straightened out. “You mind passing me that wooden sphere?” He asked, looking at them. Dragonite threw the sphere, without a word and he caught it, letting it spin him around, then walked off, into the darkness. (Off in the nearby forest) Dragonite watched as Riveing spun his leg around the sphere, then kicked it into the air and kept it in the air, for several minutes. “I used to play soccer, whenever I could.” Riveing said. “So I practiced every day. Nowadays, I just use it for self defense. Also, I heard everything, from inside the tent. Charizard thinks I can’t defend myself huh? Go ahead…give me your best shot.” Riveing said, looking Dragonite’s direction. Dragonite didn’t get what Riveing meant, at first, but then realized he wanted it to attack him. Dragonite, out of fear of hurting him, started with a weak dragon breath attack. Riveing moved out of the way and watched it pass. “That’s it?” He asked, looking back at Dragonite. “I said your best shot.” He added and Dragonite attacked him with a full on dragon breath. It came at him faster than he expected, but he managed to dodge. He kicked the ball into the air and handless cart wheeled over it, still kicking the ball around, in the air. The dragon breath attacks escalated into hyper beams. Riveing spun around one, then jumped above the other. Out of nowhere, a split flamethrower rushed at him. He jumped, to fit in between the spaces and the columns of fire passed by him, but the top one burnt his foot. Riveing caught the wooden ball and looked in the direction that the flamethrower came from, then walked back to his tent. (Back at Riveing’s tent) “What happened?” Kiero asked Riveing as he took off his shoe, along with his sock and wrapped bandages around the burned parts, then put the sock and shoe back on again. “It’s nothing to worry about.” Riveing said, standing up. He walked out of the tent and set up some pots and pans, then walked back into the forest. “Hey, Riveing, are you all right?” Dragonite asked as Riveing passed it, at the edge of the forest. “Yeah, I’m just fine, thank you very much.” Riveing said, picking herbs, from the ground. “It’s not like I’m in a real hurry.” He added, dropping the herbs and returning to the tent. “I’ll be back in a few hours.” Riveing said, taking his pokeballs and recalling his pokemon, then walking off, into the forest again. (Half an hour later, within the confines of the Vicebridge base) “Care to explain why you’re here?” The Magnum grunt asked Riveing. After Geenara had been sent to jail, Team Shuttle fell apart. Afterwards, Geenara made Team Magnum, to avoid being found out, right away. “I don’t have to explain anything, Grunt. Step aside or else.” Riveing said, reaching for a pokeball. “You talk like you’re my boss! Well get a load of this!” Grunt exclaimed, reaching into his pocket and whipping out a folding wallet, containing the sixteen badges of the region. “I’d run, if I were you.” He added, smiling. “That doesn’t impress me.” Riveing said, pulling out his own. It contained all the badges from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, including the elite four medals. “Now, step aside, if you know what’s good for you.” Riveing said, holding Sceptile’s pokeball. “No way! Those are probably fakes! You won’t believe how many people I’ve seen, with fraud badges!” Grunt shouted, throwing a pokeball. “Get ‘em, Vaporeon!” Grunt shouted, as a vaporeon emerged from the pokeball. “Do it, Sceptile!” Riveing shouted as he threw his pokeball. When Sceptile came out, Riveing attacked right away. “All right, use razor leaf!” Riveing shouted and Sceptile hit Vaporeon with several knife-like leaves. Instant K.O. “Now, slam Vaporeon into it’s trainer!” Riveing added and Sceptile grabbed Vaporeon, with two vines, then threw it right into the Magnum Grunt, knocking him out as well. Riveing recalled Sceptile, then continued, through a door. On the other side of the room, was the key, guarded by someone Riveing didn’t expect. “Jason?” Riveing exclaimed, stopping halfway across the room. “Riveing? What are you doing here?” Jason asked. “I could ask the same question, What are you doing with Team Magnum?” Riveing asked, standing straight. “Guarding one of the keys to Geenara’s hideout, what else?” Jason snapped. “If you think you can get through me, you’ve got a whole other thing coming, Buddy!” He added grabbing one of his pokeballs. As Jason threw the pokeball, time appeared to freeze, with Riveing, the only person unaffected. “It’s time, you found out about your true self.” A deep booming voice said to him and a bright flash blinded him. When it faded, he found himself in complete darkness and a light, to his right. “Within that light lies the pokemon you need, to defeat Geenara. But, you cannot obtain them, until you have all of the keys, for then you will become a true master. Your current pokemon are nothing compared to those of Geenara.” The voice said. “Who are you?” Riveing asked, looking around. “And where the hell am I?” He added, waiting for an answer. “You are in the gateway between two different worlds. As for my identity…you must wait to find out.” With that, the voice echoed out and Riveing found himself where he once stood. A few seconds later, time began to move again. Riveing reached for Charizard’s pokeball, as Jason threw his. “Go! Machamp!” Jason shouted. “I’m not going to hold back, Riveing!” Jason said, glaring at him. Riveing glared back. “I don’t expect you to! Go, Charizard!” Riveing yelled, throwing Charizard’s pokeball. Jason and Riveing stared each other down, waiting for the other to attack. |
