A COPYRIGHTED Ramzam A.K.A. Innocent Bystander writing
This is more of a PG-13 fiction as this adventure genre story has a lot of description, which means I’ll try to describe the pain the character’s feeling, which as you can guess, can make it a little less for younger people. Even so, enjoy.
The Shadow of Guarr
Prologue

I quickly stumbled to my feet as I slid along the old stone floor.

“Now use Sunny Day,” commanded the voice that was ordering around my enemy.

I shielded my eyes from the bright light as the sun reflected off of the jeweled strip that ran the length of the hall. My conscious was hanging by a thread as my vision blurred. I was plagued by labored breathing and the pain of burns all over my body. I could almost feel the dead skin flaking away under the patches of scorched and blackened fur. Out of all the Pokémon in the village, I had to be the one chosen to protect the Echo?

“Blast Burn.”

I soon came to dread those two words as I saw the immense wall of fire headed my way. By now, I’d lost all clarity of vision. I couldn’t even see my assailants behind that shimmering haze. Just two large, blackened shadows in the distance. My screams of pain could be heard for miles as the fire swallowed me hole. I quickly gave up any hope of life as I fell to my knees.

“Stop, can’t you see you’re killing it?” shouted a second voice.

“That’s the point. And I told you to wait outside!”

“Monster!”

The pain was absolutely unbearable. I couldn’t even begin to describe the burning sting that pierced my skin, destroying my nerves. My entire body felt cold. Flames of such heat, they felt as if made from ice. Unthinkable, yet possible. The light of the outside world slowly.

“Are you simply going to give up? A real warrior fights to the end,” a voice began to speak in my mind, “Now rise, young Riolu. Rise and defend all that you know…”

In a burst of energy, my eyes sprang open. I could feel some sort of energy welling up within me. Like a drive to absolutely destroy the monster that hid itself behind the haze. I’d never felt anything like this before. I’d always been trained to suppress my emotions and not let them take over my mind. But this sudden power felt so good. It was as if a spirit from above had come to give me strength.

That was when my body started to glow. I’d never thought the day would come when I evolved. I felt much better, now not seeing the worlds as big as it used to be. For once I actually felt powerful. I couldn’t even begin to describe how I felt at that moment. And now I could fight.

When all was said and done, the voice that was giving the commands of my enemy gave a comment I was less than pleased of. In their eyes, I was still as weak as ever. I would prove them otherwise.

With a quick push of my foot I found myself charging forward, at full speed, fist held back and glowing a bright cyan color.

“Stop the attack.”

Little had I known all it took was those three words to stop me dead in my tracks. I hadn’t stopped voluntarily, but I found myself caught in the strong grip of two large hands. I found myself face to face with a rather strange creature in my opinion. Its belly and arms were covered in soft, light yellow fur, with a rich streak of blue heading from the top of its head down its back. Two piercing red eyes with what seemed to be small pupils. The flames constantly erupting from the rear side of the base of what most likely served as its neck were obviously the heat that distorted everything that was out of focus or in the distance. I could see the bloodlust it held in its eyes.

“Now use Hyper Beam.”

I caught a glimpse of another, larger creature standing in the background. I’d only heard stories about humans and the immensely powerful Pokémon they could command. Taking note of the attack my opponent was charging, I attempted to move out of the way. Of course, the only response I found was the hand around my middle section tightening its grip and forcing the air out of my lungs. Not even the strongest punch from my other arm could even phase it.

Time screeched to a halt as the Hyper Beam attack came straight at me. The diamond necklace that distinguished me from everyone else was blowing in the artificial wind that had been sweeping into the monster’s endless lungs. The attack itself was spreading out to a size that would undoubtedly swallow me hole. And here I was, helplessly standing there, looking like a complete dope having been caught in one of the most basic defensive holds.

The photo-like standstill disappeared as the flow of time once again became normal. I found myself held in place as the massive beam of energy tore at my very being. Of all the things I could be feeling, I had to point out stupidity. It wasn’t exactly the smartest thing to get up and fight, seeing that this would be the outcome of my choice. I should’ve gotten up and ran. However now was not the time to scold myself as the Hyper Beam came to pass, ending the waterfall of pain.

I could only hope that this monster would have mercy and spare me. Though at that very moment my heart skipped a beat as it sank into a pit of darkness.

“Well? What are you going to do with me now, I can hardly do anything except talk,” I said, my voice obviously showing how weak I was after all of this punishment.

“Just die already,” the creature proceeded to throw my limp body straight out the temple window like a piece of garbage. And at long last, I lost my conscious, knowing I wouldn’t last much longer after such brutal treatment…

Or so I thought.
