In this issue:

  • Umoja and Helvandus completely annexed.

  • Velunese troops move into Sprixta and New Veluna.

  • Foreign Relations report

Umoja and Helvandus completely annexed.

Early this year, the former provinces of Umoja and Helvandus have been fully reincorporated into the empire. Umoja continues to be resistant, but Helvandus has, by all reports accepted Imperial rule with no complaint.

The new Imperial Legate over Helvandus, Elanora Ostic, told reporters “I've spoken with various local leaders in Helvandus. They tell me the reason for the acceptance is simply that the Helvandians themselves, on the whole, don't care about their independence. As long as they are well treated, they see no reason to rebel when only a small minority actually care to be independent.”

This does coincide with the historical record regarding Helvandus. Their rebellion after the loss in Zeon was led by a small minority of far-leftist rebels, and was only successful because of the wholesale withdrawal of Velunese troops during the riots in other parts of the empire. After that point, Veluna found itself hard pressed to hold anything, let alone reclaim a mostly willing Helvandus.

The ULF has promised to continue resistance, but Imperial officials have made it clear that there will be no change in the Imperial rule in Umoja.

Velunese troops move into Sprixta and New Veluna.

Sprixta has been brought back into Velunese rule, and Imperial forces, riding on the first beginnings of a new Imperial Navy have landed in New Veluna There was a brief discussion with the nearby commonwealth of Noveria regarding our landing of troops in New Veluna, but overall, the situation has been resolved, although discussions over Hengri remain on hold. The Kaisar has claimed that Hengri will not be claimed unless a deal with Noveria is either deemed impossible, or is reached. If Hengri is allowed to go to Noveria, despite is position in regards to other Velunese territory on the north of the Inner Sea, then the Kaisar has said he will require some form of recompense, or perhaps allowing the placement of a single military base on the coast of Hengri.

Foreign Relations report.

Negotiations with Kalopia have gone as well as can be expected, and the Kaisar has also announced that a personal discussion with Judas XII of Antethia has led to at least a temporary cession of overt hostilities between our peoples. While many citizens fully expect that someday our nation and Antethia will be forced to go to war, and Even the Kaisar regretfully admits it, in his words, the goal of his attempt at at least cursory d'entente was to ensure that the war took as a long as possible to come. It is his belief that neither veluna nor Antethia can withstand a sustained war with the other, and a war would likely lead to both ending up the loser, or the winner with so high a bill in blood and treasure they may as well have lost.

Work in progress.
