This is extremely interesting. I haven't read it fully yet, but I plan on doing so soon and commenting after. Figured I would share it:

Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies

We are witnessing a pronounced flourishing of free content and services on the internet, created and distributed by the users themselves in voluntary networks according to rather anarchic principles: Wikipedia, open source software and books, music, films, and design, which the creators make freely available.

All this challenges and supplements traditional commercial companies by offering non-commercial alternatives. This is anarconomy. In the future, anarconomy will move out of the internet and also radically change economy in the physical world when we can make our own consumer goods on 3D printers with a basis in open source blueprints.

This report is free for everyone to download.

Not all consumer goods can be made by one person in their basement/office.

I don't know. He seems to have some validity, even if I think its a bad choice for a name. Anarconomy is not the proper on IMHO

But you have to give it more credit than that - its a revolution against intellectual property. It sounds like there's implications of a post-scarcity economy but again I haven't read it yet.

And why not "anarconomy?" Just because you hate/fear all things with the word "anarchy" involved in them doesn't make it a bad name - especially if it does follow anarchic principles (which the free market necessarily does).

+2 for Cow for pointing out its cheesy
+3 for Ryan for pointing out the bulk of my objection (not the entirety)
-1 fro Ryan for thinking that its an awesome name.

Intellectual property is VITAL. My intended carreer is scifi author. W/o intellectual property, how the hell am I going to make any money? (Granted, I don't want to write for the money, but I do need to make a living off my books)

Like everyone else: by providing a service or product that people are willing to buy.

Isn't Intellectual property a good and or/service that one provides? If I create a piece of word processing software that is better than Microsoft Word, should I not be able to make money from that?

If I write a novel, although it may be a hobby, should I not be able to make some money? Shouldn't people pay me for the pleasure they gain out of my hard work?

Reian is quite right regarding authors needing to make money so that they can cover publishing costs and make a living.

People ARE willing to buy books. But if intelectual property doesn't exist, then what?

EDIT: -1 point from MK for completely missing my point

+3 to Ben for explaining
