Regarding the IV

I have been avoiding discussing the Interim Version, which has obviously died out on the surface (there are no more posts in the game boards despite no announcements of any changes). The reason is, the game is currently too complex for our standards of fun gameplay.

In brief, the IV is postponed temporarily, however this is not like the "future" version - Deadhead, Michael, and I are actively automating the IV. Automation of this version, unlike the future one, will be quick, clean, and simple.

I obviously would like to say a whole lot more, but sometimes it's better to keep things simple. The impetus for posting this actually came from a PM that I just responded to regarding the game. Out of laziness, I can answer a lot of questions simply by reposting it (with some edits, of course).

1. Yes, the "Interim Version" did flop, but only on the surface. What few people see is that behind the scenes we are hard at work automating it, and we have substantial progress so that it can be released very very soon. I have not made a public announcement on it yet since I don't like making any announcements until I have all the information I can get. I apparently am not the best entrepreneur in this new field I have created. All entrepreneurship requires trial-and-error, and although I learned from many mistakes and have benefited greatly from my trials and errors, I have made a greater mistake of having them be very public. I am trying to avoid making messes publicly, and instead prefer to make them behind closed doors.

2. The Interim Version, its name notwithstanding, is, nor ever was designed to be "temporary." In the sense that it has a lifetime that is known to be finite - you could consider it "temporary" but all of our versions have ended and were thus just as "temporary" as this version will be. However, we are not making any judgments as to end the IV until after the "real" CCRPG future version comes out. Depending on demand, we will run them concurrently, or simply switch all activity from the IV to the new version, but again, it's not something I can forecast now.

3. As such, the IV is meant to be mass-marketed now. It will buildup support for the future version, and as the future version will be unlike anything we've ever seen before, there is the likelihood that a large part of our audience that is only here for the "gaming" may reject it - and thus will have an alternative in the IV. However, on the assumption that most will not reject it, we are using the IV as a springboard - primarily to attract a wider audience to our "franchise" and secondarily to test our capabilities for the future version.

4. The future version (which I have every intention to rename and "distance" from the CCRPG name due to its revolutionary breakaway) is still our primary goal. The IV is an intermediate step, one which we expect to automate quickly and simply, devoting all remaining energies to the development of the future version. The design for the future version is near complete, all that remains is putting it into practice more or less. As we have the IV to keep our audience occupied, we have greater liberty to perfect the future version to make it the greatest game ever conceived.

As always, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions regarding the IV as well as the future version of CCRPG here. It might even be better than making an announcement.

I'll make a public announcement on the progress of the IV automation right now.

Currently, Step 1 of 2 is nearly 100% complete. This step was largely done already thanks to past efforts of everyone on the automation team (and always of cuorse Ryan!). I will be for certain, and I say that for a fact this time, completing step 1 off 100% today, since I have the day off of work, and I know for a fact that I have nothing else to do (except dry my shoes off! :P)

Also, I will start step 2 today if time permits. I'm having a good feeling about this, but, if I do not finish the automation today. I will get everyone else tasks to work on, and when work finished at the end of this week for me, and I get back home Tuesday, this will be my top priority.

I assure you, this game will be up and running very soon.

(Also, on a side note, a large amount of programming done on this project is also going to be used for the full CCRPG game, so while I'm working on this, I'm still working on the full game!)

Excellent, great news Deadhead! And thanks for making it public at the same time. ^_^

One question for you, and I guess everyone can benefit from this but it's more for me - are you using/do you plan to use the interim site or the dev site (or a whole new one) to host everything?

I haven't put anything up there at the moment (I've been coding on the road for the past three days or so. Phish concert ftw!) and am testing everything on my local machine, but once it is all done, it will be hosted on the interim website, which will undergo a quick testing period (since there can be differences between my local machine and the server), and then have it uused by the public on the interim website.

Was insanely good. This was the last concert of their summer tour, and they ended strong. Was some of the best playing I've ever heard them do, and also, they played their first Harpua since '03! Their singing was great, and Trey was tearing up on the guitar. They were so tight and together, it was awesome.

To my knowledge, Deadhead was supposed to finish the bulk of the coding of the IV by now, just waiting to hear from him...

Assuming we're where I think we are, the IV should be ready within the week? Although I'll have a better estimate soon.
