OOC: Some names here may be VERY similar (or the same) as those of characters in CCRPG marines. Please note, the names are only that way because Wraith figured out the best way for SNs to become real names. And because I’m lazy this is not related to CCRPG marines, except in surface superficial bits.

Corridors of Power Book I: Heresies in Politics

Prologue

“Senator Synair?” Alex Synair put down his newspaper and pressed the intercom button on his desk to respond to his receptionist.
“Yes?”
“There’s a…Colonel Ares from FISA here to see you.” Synair smirked. Colonel Marcus Ares was one of the special investigators of the Federation Internal Security Agency. They’d met last year, when FISA had been investigating him- leader of the biggest opposition party in the Senate- for illegal campaign financing charges. And, because there was no reality to them, they failed. Not that anyone, including Prime Minister Ryans, was particularly surprised. No one seriously thought the most popular senator in the history of the Hamilton system needed to cut shady deals to get the funds for a re-election bid. Word was, in this coming cycle- two years from no- no one was even going to bother running against him.
“Send him in.”
“Yes sir.” As Ares started passing through the door, Alexi flipped a switch underneath his desk that would scramble any wires. He wouldn’t put it past FISA to have the Colonel wear a wire- or plant a bug while in here.
Colonel Ares, a veritable giant of a man, entered Synair’s field of vision. His crisp military uniform had a fruit salad of decorations on the front- he’d served in the front lines during the Federation war with the Xorrlain Empire four years ago. His loss of his arm and part of his leg had made him unable to fight anymore- although he’d been fitted with pretty much good as new prosthetics, the nerves were too damaged for him to be able to maintain combat reflexes for long.
Standing up, Synair held out his hand. “Colonel Ares. A pleasure to see you again. Has Mr. Ryans decided to start another witch hunt on me?”
Marcus shook his hand, and then they both sat down. “Actually Senator, I’m here to discuss your recent snoops into the black budget.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Alex said, inwardly frowning.
“Cut the Bullshit.” Ares said simply. “We both know you’ve been trying to figure out where parts of the black budget are going. You’re chair of the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee. You’ve been using every favor and trick you know to find out what we’re doing.”
“If you’re trying to get me to back off, you’ll have to do better than that. You have absolutely nothing you can arrest me for. Besides, do you really want to make an official senate hearing about whatever it is you’re doing on Stalin V? Or what the Grey Berets have been doing out in the Antethian Neutral Zone?”
“Actually, I’m here to read you in one where that money is really going.”

OOC: Next installment will feature Major Jack Calahan of the “Wraiths” (super elite special ops group) and his team. If anyone wants their character to be on this team PM me. There are two CC character slots open on the team apart from Wraith. Tell me what name you want your character to be if you have a preference.

OOC: HA! You thought it was dead! WRONG!

Look, people, I need PMs if you want to be on Calahan’s (Wraith’s) SpecOps team. I have no idea who those should be, but If I don’t get them soon, I will choose two so-far unused names out of a hat. But, since I want another installment, I will post one that doesn’t mention the rest of the Team.

Chapter I: It Doesn’t Exist

“Major Calahan, the first thing you need to understand about this mission is that the planet you will be on does not exist. Many of your missions have been high classified. This takes that to a much higher level. You are not to tell your immediate superiors why you’re being re-assigned, or anything about this mission. You will tell your team members absolutely what they need to know and not one iota of information more. You will never mention this ever again, and it will not go down in any file that anyone will ever be able to access. When you are done, this mission will never have happened. Clear?”
“Yes sir.” Calahan responded.
“Good.” General Seth Elucis continued. “The system in question is known as the Vega system.” The screen closed in on a red giant star, in the neutral zone between the Federation and the Ro'lerin Empire. All seven planets in it were colonized 127 years ago, by a group of religious conservatives who wanted to turn back the tech clock. An odd hodgepodge of medieval earth, late Renaissance and sublight engines so they could contact the other planets in the system.. The Prime Minister at the time agreed, on the provision that satellites be allowed to monitor the general situation there, in case something threatened all the humans in the system. They agreed, and granted the Federation the right to intervene in pandemic disease crises or invasion by a hostile force. All records of the Vega System were wiped from official databases, and a treaty with the Ro'lerin let the settlers be there without it being considered a breach of the neutral zone.
“Two months ago, our satellites picked up odd transmissions coming from the surface of Vega III, local name, St. Michael. A probe was sent down to investigate discovered some disturbing things before it was destroyed.
Several pictures appeared on the screen, technologies decades, centuries ahead of anything the Federation had access to.
“Those are-” Calahan said in shock
“Yes. Precursor artifacts. We've had our best experts in the field study these pictures, and they have no idea what they could be doing here. The Precursor empire never expanded here, as far as anyone can tell.”
The pictures left the viewscreens. “Right after our probe was destroyed- we still have no idea by what- all of our monitoring stations in the system went dead.”
Work in progress.

The House of Laws, The Capital, Earth
Sol System, Earth Federation

The Capital of the Earth Federation was the only area of human settlement on the birthplanet of Humanity since the tunring over of the planet to nature a little over 300 years ago. On the site of the city once known as London.

Both houses of the Legislature met in the House of Laws, a massive edifice of marble and concrete. And deep inside the Parlimentary wing of it, the beginings of a plot was unfolding.

"Mr. Kelly? Senator Synair is here to see you?" Lt. Cololel (Ret.) and MP from Heisenberg IV, Richard P. Kelly looked up from the book he was reading.

"Did he somehow manage to schedule an appointment without me noticing?" Kelly and Synair positively loathed eachother. One of the few things they had in common was an intense hatred for Prime Minister Ryan
