Ok I made this post to clear up any questions one might have about what the Automation Team's purpose is. This topic is a merger of two posts from Me and Alexander Hamilton. This thread is to remain open and pinned for easy indexing. Shall we get started? Q & A I will start off with a little Q&A to answer the basic questions ________________________________________________________________________ Q: Will automation take the place of forum gaming here at CCRPG? A: No. The purpose of automation is to make things simpler on the forum, not get rid of it completely. What this means is, most of the programming you'll see pushed around the table in Automation Discussion is for third-party programs. What is an example of a third-party program? Deadhead's Income Generator. The automation will play an integral part into the forum, not the other way around. Further discussion in the next section ________________________________________________________________________ Q: I don't want a zombie machine that does everything for me. A: Most of our programs will be third-parties (see above) and as such will require as much thinking and creativity on the gamer's part as ever before. It will simply make life a little easier. _________________________________________________________________________ Q: What's the deal with the dynamic map? Some of us have dial-up A: For dial-up users we will have a static map, same as always. __________________________________________________________________________ Q: I just don't get why we need this anyway..how long is it going to take? A: Automation is necessary for the evolution of CCRPG. Trascending all versions of the game is too much complexity, while users still want more. Relax. The automation is going to take some time. Which would you prefer, quality or speed? ___________________________________________________________________________ END. The Debate The debate amongst nay-sayers is that automation is not necessary, it will take too long, and gets rid of the forum. I can't do anything about it. I came on to help with the process, it wasn't my idea. As such, I feel responsible to clear a few things up. Automation is necessary frankly and flat-out. We want change, but we don't want complexity. Something has to give. Automation will also take some time. That's the truth of it, but the game will be better for it. Automation is not done in absence of the forum, actually it's quite the contrary. The Forum is the key to automation. I'm right there with the rest of you in that I don't want a faceless machine governing all aspects of the game, but that's not what we are hoping to accomplish. Most of our programs will be small and compact, like the Income Generator, and one can simply choose to use or not use them (although certain features cannot be accessible without it). That being said, there will be some "machine-like" features, but only a few, two of those being profile management and Dynamic Maps. The only other feature set-in-stone that will be a first-party program is the Secret Moves section of gameplay. You are all welcome to post any questions I haven't cleared up. |
