He is the only sitting Congressman to have voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Paul votes against anything the Federal Government does not have the power to do. Appearantly he found something, and voted against it. Paul is for the Constitution before all else in his position. He did propose a bill to declare war on Iraq after the invasion had already begun saying, correctly, that only Congress can declare war legally.

Speak of the Devil and he shall come. Paul was asked about this on Meet The Press :P "It's not about racism, it is about individual freedom/size of the federal government."

Individual freedom, of course.

That would be what civil rights are FOR.

According to Paul, it forced private business to stop discriminating in their private business because it was accessible to the public. I agree with Paul on this because if I own something, I should be able whatever I want with it, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. If car dealers can refuse to sell to people who have poor credit then I should be able to refuse to sell to people who don't meet whatever requirements I have regardless if they are superficial. I should have the right to refuse service to people with mullets or red hair or white skin or disabilities or kids or cars or hats or whatever.

as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

What if, say, you're a black dude who needs to go to a hospital for some reason, or you'll die, and the hospital is Whites Only?

Well, ideally, the free market would provide a black hospital and white hospital if there were a demand for one and it were profitable, but in these times most hospitals are owned by the state* and the state would have authority to ban discrimination, but private businesses are different. The state should have no authority over the private sector.

*state in this case means government

you disgust me.

Face it, in todays day and age, the Constitution needs MAJOR rehaul. Thats why they included the Elastic Clause.

Constutionally does not mean legally.

Laws =/= constitution.

Poor credit is a money issue.

Refusing service on THAT kind of thing is wholly differant.

PLUS! If we had a black hospital and a white hospital, the black one, WOULD SUCK!

We tried Seperate but equal. IT FAILED.

States rights and Strict constutionality DIED after the civil war. Get it through your head.
Work in progress.

I actually don't care for the circumstances. I believe in freedom. The ability to do as I feel if it does not harm someone. I don't like people telling me what to do, especially without good reason. I personally question any order I am given if I cannot see a benefit in it.

If the States' rights part of the constitution is dead, then the entire thing is dead, including the elastic clause. If the constitution is dead, then there should be no federal government. Actually that would work out in my favor, but at any rate, yes, the Constitution needs an overhaul. My version, I assume, would be very different than yours.
