Kathy haven gotten a better look at the map, and skimming over the data that would occasionally pop up across the screen. "So you're sending out Berta for recon correct? Many of the sittings that were substantiated had the vessels in question heading in this general direction." She moved her hand over the map to increase to size of the selected area. "Now, we have no proof that they have a base in this region, nor do we have proof that it maybe beyond this grid of the map. However, if we were to consider the fact that this mysterious Dodai Kai was headed north, we can considerably limit the potential area of a base should it exist. So I'd personally say that we should assume that a base does exist and it's within fifty miles of where that Dodai Kai disappeared." Kathy took her index finger and drew five paths, "Now, we can expand our search radius to cover this region quickly. We won't need to have our mobile suits going at top speeds, and due to the chance of low visibility. I have to recommend a thermal sweep, or the area. If the enemy ship has passed through this area, we should be able to detect some thermal signature, or thermal resonance." As Kathy looked up, at Ennis to read his reaction, she added one last detail. "Also, one last suggestion, if we could have you waiting in your gaplant during the reconnaissance, that would definitely help if we find them and need a quick response to the situation." ______________________________________________________________ Summer had finished changing into her normal suit, and had arrived in the hangar to find Jurik having a discussion with the prisoner who had just finished painting his bomb. She threw up a quick salute as she continued to head towards Jurik and Sean. "Pardon the interruption sir, but I was unable to find the other members of the team." |

"What do you think?" Erol heard Sean exclaim while he was making a lap around the hangar. "Um..." Erol began after coming over, jogging in place. "Federation... humping the Zeon?" Was the best his mind could muster after observing it. Surely Sean did not seem like a supporter of the Zabis nor someone who sympathized with them or any Zeon government for that matter. "Federation always in the shadow of Zeon?" He guessed again while still jogging in place. "Federation overshadows Zeon?" |

“That’s quite alright, Ensign. I had them paged. Of course, looking at this unit, it could take them hours to get here.” Jurik scoffed as he continued on towards his suit. |

"A good analysis, Lieutenant," Ennis said, typing in a few more commands. The data displayed would be shunted down to Jurik's machine, so that the team leader would have the best intel he could for the recon flight. "I'm not sold on having myself as the sole quick response element, but I'll give it some thought," he continued, starting to miss having a second Gaplant as back-up. "Anyways, whether or not we end up facing the enemy today, I'll want you on the bridge keeping the squadron as up to date as you can. Our opponents are nasty enough characters to make seeing the big picture more than a little difficult, and every pair of eyes helps." |

Sean let Jurik get away with his little insult about his unit being easier to find. He was there when Sean asked Ennis for permission. If he was listening, he'd have known it was the whole point int eh first place. Even then, at least his unit's roll-out colors weren't bright primary red. Sean instead decided to converse with Erol. "Out of all of those, the last one is the most accurate. I'm not sure if any of you researched me, or if Ennis told you, but I was born and raised on Earth. To make a long story short, I left for space when I was sixteen and joined Zeon's forces after the One Week War and ended up becoming the XO of one of their more elite units. After the war I joined the Federation and stayed with them for years until I joined the AEUG. So, while Zeon trained me and gave me the skills needed, I'm still loyal to teh Federation, which is why they're on top." |

“So, you aren’t an inferior after all, just mislead.” Jurik quipped as he stepped onto a lift that brought him up to his Marasai’s cockpit. He secured his helmet before stepping into the mobile suit. The cockpit lit up as he began going over his check list. New data flashed across one of the screens. Glancing over, Jurik saw that Ennis had updated some mission parameters. The cockpit hatch closed and sealed as the deck crew cleared the area around the mobile suit. (I’m gonna launch in my next post. If Nihachi hasn’t posted by then I’ll just say that the whole team launched and I guess I’ll control Zaku’s characters too. If there’s any problems with that, just pm me on here.) |

Franke grinned, "Thermal resonance? I guess you skipped out on physics 101, we're unlikely to pick up any sort of thermal reading if the ship has passed, heat dissapates far to quickly - you're better off throwing up a scan for minovsky particles, there's far more chance of there beeing faint traces of minovsky radiation, its how we track ships in space after all - providing of course that these hulks are running on minovsky generators." she leant on the bridge rail and traced a line in the air, "Depending on the quality of the AEUG base thermal scans might show its own generators or active Mobile Suits up, or possibly resonant minovsky particals if they're running - if you've got sonar or ground sounding equipment on any of your suits or the ship, you might be able to detect any structures, providing that the ground here is soft or of course any resonant sound from the active movement of hostiles within a base - thats how we pin-pointed Federation Bunkers in the war, and how both of our sides used to track enemies when minovsky jamming went up." the Zeon pilot grinned and tapped her metalic hand on the rail, "It pays to have a scout pilot on your side you see, I remember all the little tricks for tracking enemy suits. As for visibility, you want the Garuda to drop its altitude if you want any chance of sneaking up on them, depending on effective range of their radar a flyer this size is going to be detected well before Minovsky Jamming counters it out, and even if we're lucky jamming will just set them on alert, so flying low will give them less of a target to spot." |

(That's fine, Leader. Sorry for the minor absence, it's been some busy days this week.) Ennis chewed on the inside of his lip for a moment, inventories and supply lists moving through his head. "No ground sonar equipment on any of the suits. Most of them started out as space duty types, and we didn't get anything from the dirt-based transfers," he mused aloud. "Don't think we've got any on the ship, either. I'll call the locals, see if they've got any Type 74s lying around." He paused again, glancing at the map before turning to some of the bridge crew. "You heard the ladies, gentlemen. Bring her down, as close to nape-of-the-earth as you can get this tub. And start searching for particles and thermal energy." He crossed his arms and faced the merc and the tactician again, shrugging. "No reason not to try both," he told them. "Neither method is foolproof. Thermal fades too quickly, particles fade too slowly. We might hit a pocket left over from the damn War. But either one might work, too, so we might as well use the gear. Franke, if you want to get your suit prepped, you'll be going out with Anton this time. Not looking forward to another fight, but I'm hoping for one. We need some damn results this time." |

"Roger that." Peripe responded languidly, seating himself comfortably in the cockpit of the Barzam. One of the advantages of spending so much time in the cramped hard space was becoming quite acclimated to the area. The cockpit door closed and the monitors came to life. A recon mission wasn't quite as excited as a full on battle, but sometimes boring was good. In the One Year War, recon patrols were often a godsend. They also could quickly become life of death battles. "All suited up and ready for lauch." Peripe called over the frequency, getting onto a bass jobber. (Sorry for my absence as well. My browser history erased itself and I've had a sucky past week.) |

“All right, Berta team move into launch positions.” Jurik ordered as his Marasai got onto a Base Jabber. “Lieutenant Commander Tadao, Marasai, launching.” A corpsmen signaled that he was clear. The Base Jabber’s engines roared as it began to gain speed. The muscles in Jurik’s face tightened as his eyes darted between the visual monitors and the sensor readouts. He decreased his altitude, slightly, after clearing the Garuda. Bringing the Base Jabber about, Jurik pulled ahead of the massive transport aircraft, his team falling into formation behind him. “Berta, we will be performing forward reconnaissance as per the orders that are in the mission briefs on your computers. Maintain your altitude bellow radar and minimize your signatures. Me and Ensigns Hearst and Teia will commence with scanning for traces of Minovsky particles while Lieutenants Anderson and Weizegger will scan for any thermal abnormalities.” |

Erol looked questionably at Sean, judging whether he was joking about running off with Zeon. "Are you serious?" Finally asking. "You seem to come off as someone who was always a Feddie like us before now. But running off to space then join a military opposing Earth at the age of sixteen? Young and reckless indeed, man." shaking his head. "Most I ever did was finally taste alcohol. Well... by my standards of recklessness." "Guess they suit you if they were crazy enough to let you be an XO that young. "This information," he then said more to himself than to Sean while stroking his elongated beard with the palm of his hand, "could change some of the betting odds. Oh! And yeah, explains why we still keep you fighting for us too!" Edited by Ziryab, Aug 5 2009, 07:33 PM.

"Roger that. Ensign Teia, Barzam, launching." The VTOL on the base jabber whined as they came to life, propelling the rocket sled into the air after the new Lt.
"Copy that sir." Peripe called back over the radio, beginning to scan for Minovsky particles. He began to fly, methodically searching the landscape. "Nothing so far." |

Jurik was picking up zippidty doo dah on his scans. It was expected. Meanwhile, Zaku’s characters were having similar results. “Man this is totally boring when are we gonna see some action? Hehehe, I can’t wait to make those AEUGer’s shit their pants, hehehe,” cackled Julian. |

"This is Ensign Summer Hearst, Hizack taking off." Her machine took off on the base jabber as she quickly fell into formation with the rest of berta. She began her search for traces of minovsky particles, as per the mission orders. _____________________________________________ Kathy stood over the map device as the information slowly started to trickle in, even if it was only the movement of the teams heading out of the hangar. She stood there with her arms crossed eagerly awaiting some sort of sign that their plan had come to fruition and that they had found this illusive AEUG base. "You AEUG are suppose to be the 'good guys,' you should know not to keep a lady waiting. Show yourselves soon, we don't really have all day here. |
