Jim smiled at the thought of taking Eddy out again in a duel, but then he saw Boyle and Kemper come over, and he remembered he'd promised them some sparring. "Sorry Ed, but I'm a little out of practice with my groundfighting, and already promised the grunts I'd show them how to fight hand-to-hand properly. You're welcome to join us for some sparring" Jim told Eddy. |

The O'Regan's "Ok, thank you Karl" Erica said as she collected her young. Leet After rudely being ignored by Jim, he over heard him talk to someone about teaching Marines how to do their job, and even insulted them by referring to them as 'grunts.' Leet laughed hard at the thought of a pilot believing he was better at ground warfare than highly trained Marines. 'He probably knows one form of martial arts, but that won't make him better' he thought to himself, recalling all the extensive training he underwent in multiple fighting forms during his years with the Zeon military. Not knowing how the Federation trained their men, he assumed it was similar though. 'If this is how he regards everyone, it's no surprise the Zeke went ape-shit on him' Walking pass Jim and Eddy, he saw the large group of AEUG pilots just standing around. Walking more he saw Dracid by himself, and it struck him as odd. "Why aren't you with your friends over there?" he inquired |

Dracid had quit watching the groups that were talking and was lost in his own thoughts. He was realy thinking about his parents and how they were doing. He figured that he'd go visit them once this was over, if he survived. Then Leet approached and presented his question, snapping him out of his thoughts. He regarded him in a friendly way, smiled, then replied, "It seemed like they were discussing something I probably would get lost in. Sure, I may be one of the pilots, but that doesn't mean I know everything they'd be chatting about. He paused, then finished with, "To tell the truth, I had to get out of my room. I had no intention of going over to that group." |

Karl nodded and led the group back to the hangar deck where the soldier was just leading them down the aft ramp, hugging each of them in turn he watched as his best friends family walked down the ramp with the other civilians. Karl turned to see Jim and some of the others group together, before Jim could run off Karl sauntered over, "Lt., I've been thinking about the evac bird for Alcatraz, it can't come in unarmed and it'd be a deadly idea for the mobile suits to be picking off the guard towers with beam weapons while you and the commando team are on the ground, so I've been thinking we should fit it with a pair of vulcans off of a spare Nemo head to give us the firepower needed to take out the towers cleanly and some smaller gun positions on the upper deck for fire suppression while you're loading up the package." |

Jim glanced over at Boyle and Kemper, who both nodded at the suggestion. "Good idea, Karl. I'll have the deck gang outfit two Dodais as gunships with the Vulcans and another three Dodais as transports with a couple HMGs each on'em for close cover. I'd also recommend that someone else takes my Dias out, since I won't be needing it for this one. Perhaps Zane could use it, since he's the only experienced jock we got who isn't already in a Dias or one of the newly upgunned Nemos" Jim suggested, wanting every man on the line for this one. He threw a glance over at the Hazel, battered as it was. The deck gang had worked minor miracles with it, mating Nemo parts for the arm and head. They'd even rigged an imitation of the V-fin on the head so it still looked like a Gundam. Jim sighed, then turned back to Karl. "If you'd care to join us, we were about to do some hand-to-hand training. I could use a sparring partner" Jim said to Karl, hoping the Zeke would step into the ring with him. |

Karl sighed, ever since he'd cut back on his chronic smoking his head had been throbbing at the stupidity he'd been surrounded by for so long, "Jim we're only going to have two or three Dodais left over with pilots on the ground, one will be used as the "Dustoff" bird and will also act as the gunship, with the room available on the back of the craft, we'll be more than able to make it with everyone in one trip, the others will be on stand0by to pick up any pilots that get downed and survive it, as for sparring, I'll have to decline, I don't want to injure you fellas before the big operation."

Jim wasn't pleased at the lack of overkill on their CAS, but didn't let it show. Instead, he grinned at Karl. Guy is a bruiser, no doubts there, but I doubt he's got any inkling just how good I am hand to hand he chuckled to himself before responding "I'll take that as a challenge, Karl, and I don't back down from those. Step into the ring with me, I guarantee I won't walk out hurt. I make no promises for you, however" he replied. |

"You fellas want me to be referee for your little sparring match? Since I'll be going up against a shitty AI in the simulation, I don't see any point in getting acquainted with the new Nemo unless I get a challenge on the other end," Eddy said nonchalantly. |

Karl laughed, Jim had no idea Karl hadn't lost a street fight in his life, military training or not, experience plays out in the long run where training always failed, "Jim, I have no idea what they taught you Federation types but you wouldn't last five minutes once I got a hold of you, I've taken guys twice your size with ten times the training and experience, believe me I tumbled with all types in the Cyclops, including special forces types that would put the Major here to shame sad to say. So I'll have to respectfully decline so as to not accidentally take my current frustrations out on you." (Dude, I went and looked up that Krav Maga shit, I learned half those attack routines on my own) |

Jim kept a poker face on. Street fighting a bunch of piss-drunk and stoned Zekes, whoop-de-fucking-DO, Karl. I've beaten EFSF Recon Marine and EFA Green Beret hand to hand instructors before without a scratch on me. You have no idea at all, Karl. Besides, Krav Maga ain't street fighting, it's killing you as fast as possible. And I'm about as good as you can be unless you're a monk of the stuff he thought. Remembering a quote from the wise old mentor in one of his favorite old movies, he simply replied "Size matters not. Will is everything. And I'll wear an extra shirt, so don't try hiding behind being outta my weight class" to the bruiser. [Its times like these when character sheets come in real handy... just for grins, I statted them both out in 2020, with Karl as a perfect 'brawler' [BOD 10, REF 10, and brawling [non-martial] combat of 10, with Jim at BOD 7, REF 10, and Martial Art [Krav Maga] at 8. They actually broke pretty even, with Jim landed slightly more hits on average, and Karl doing slightly more damage on average] Admin Edit (CAIB) (One thing you got wrong is that street fighting isn't simply brawling, and it is most certainly designed to get the quick kill, like I said, I use half the routines I saw of Krav Maga already, it's called MMA my friend. Believe me, when you have ten guys on you and only enough time to kill maybe three, you wanna get as much in as you can, besides, size doesn't dictate speed or accuracy.) After several people left to go combat training or something, Chelsea was left there with Michiko whom she still didn't really know other than the fact that she and Eddy knew each other and spoke a different language. Chelsea tried to come out of her shell a little. "Hi my name is Chelsea Vera, I don't think we've met yet with just how busy we've all been. It's nice to meet you." She said with a cheerful smile. |

(Speaking of character sheets, did any of you see 'Deadliest warrior last week? I'm actually surprised teh Apache beat the Gladator....tonight's episode is a Viking vs a Samurai. :D) Leet Leet laughed. "Just go over there and make them acknowledge you. Just because you're new doesn't mean you shouldn't hang out with your team. Hell, that's more of a reason to get to know them in the first place. You'll be fine, just don't start any fights with your teammates, otherwise I may have to keep watch of a few of you...again." After giving Dracid a little bit of advice, Leet noticed a few of the marines were apparently already showered, which reminded Leet of where he was going next. "But excuse me, I need to get out of these clothes and take a shower, sand is getting everywhere." With that, he headed for the showers. |

While she had been thinking to herself, Michiko lost track with what was going on around her and was surprised to look up and see everyone gone and the girl she had noticed earlier walking up to her and introducing herself. Blinking to clear the dazed look from her eyes, she replied, "Hello Chelsea-san, my name is Michiko Amsel, though if you prefer, you may call me Chiko." Out of old habit from living in her grandparents' formal household, Michiko had to stop herself from giving a small bow and settled for a friendly smile. |

Dracid chuckled a little Leet's comment about the sand. He was about to say something, but didn't, as Leet was headed off. He shrugged and headed over to the dwindling group, taking Leet's advice. He pushed a bit of his white hair from his face. He scanned the room, his blue eyes taking in much of the surroundings, noting how many people were still flaoting around. Not many that he knew, but he didn't mind; he was eager to met new people. He said aloud, keeping his message short, "Hello all." |

Karl chuckled and shook his head slowly, "Sorry, not this time, I can't afford to be breaking every bone in your body, just yet. Anyway, I'll start the modifications on the gunship, have a few of the ground troops bring over some heavy machine guns for the upper deck so I can get to welding the turret positions. Make sure you're ready on your end, we roll on the tarmac at ten o'clock tonight, that'll put us in San Fransisco around five in the morning, so the fog will be pretty thick. We'll do the final brief a half hour before the operations begins." With that Karl turned and headed for the lower hangar deck to begin his pet project. (I figure a seven hour flight time based on the assumption that the Garuda's average cruising speed would be around 550 miles per hour, no idea what the time difference would be though.)
