Aboard Alexandria-class cruiser, Retiro Lunar surface outside city of Von Braun Humming unto himself, Lieutenant Junior Grade Erol Yilmaz of the Titans peered into the face size, personal mirror attached to the inner door of his locker. His face bobbed and weaved in the mirror. Rising and drooping, twisting left and right while examining his features. Tugging at his eyelids with a forefinger he next reached inside the top shelf of the locker. Pulling forth a small pick or comb with long teeth, Erol tilted his chin up and began grooming the thick black curls of his mustache-less goatee that hid almost his entire jaw and chin while ending in a long cylindrical beard. Grinning in satisfaction, Erol placed the comb back into his locker then proceeded to stroke down the length of his beard between two fingers. "This outfit that I serve with is feels different than what I am use to, what I was accustomed to when I became a Titan," Erol began speaking from behind his locker door. Less of a statement for conversation than speaking to himself out loud. "But since when did pilots become spies and saboteurs? Or are they saboteurs and spies who are also pilots?" Closing his locker door. "Or am I missing something here as someone new to this unit or was trained as a pilot, straight?" ((Leavin that open-ended to anyone still around the Retiro. NPC or otherwise. =p)) |

Leaning against his own locker Garrick looked up from his newspaper and chuckled. "It's more like we don't have enough people to do all the jobs that need doing, LT," the chief mechanic said. "Next thing you know they'll be sticking me in a suit, and then the cooks and the clerks too." Garrick folded his paper and tucked it under his arm. "It helps that the Old Lady's ex-Intel herself, though. And the Commander's just crazy enough to pull it off, as long as he doesn't get into one of his personal issues. At least we get to stick to our real jobs for now so we can pull their fat out of the fire." |

"Clerks and cooks before mechanics," Erol stated, more command than comment. "You types coddle the machine more than my mother ever did any of us--more than any mother would. "No real offense, but half of you probably wouldn't pull the trigger for fear of wearing out the mobile suits trigger," mocking the chief engineer. "And the mechanics at flight school? Oh trying to reduce them to premature aging was a pasttime!" "Wait a sec!" Cutting into Garrick's comeback. "The Commander's personal issues?" Erol held up his wrists and began pressing a button on his wrist watch until he came to the estimated time run on his comrade's mission. "I take it that means I'm one of the losers in the betting pool then?" Disappointingly looking up at Garrick, having assumed they'd make it at least sixty hours before needing to be rescued. |

"Well, I've heard the Commander has a tendency to hold grudges, and I've also heard some of his old enemies are with the AEUG. So if he runs into one of them and decides to finish his business . . ." Garrick shrugged. "Honestly, I don't think it'll be a problem, since it would put his people at risk, and if you think we coddle the suits it's nothing compared to how he usually treats pilots. Takes losses personally. I think if he had his way he'd fly every mission solo to reduce the risk of casualties." |

Suddenly, alarms began shrieking throughout the ship, and the XO came on the intercom. "We've got signs of combat spotted outside the city! Looks like our people are checking out early, so all pilots to your suits!" the XO ordered. Garrick tossed away his paper. "Come on kid, let's go!" he yelled to Erol as he began rushing to the hangar. |

"Are you shitting me!?" Garrick screamed into the telephone, dropping all the trappings of military courtesy. "No I am not, Chief," the XO replied. "We've got a laser comm from a spy in the city that tells us that our people are coming out in three suits. Which means they've got extra people on board those suits that are wasted just sitting there. You're going to get in that damn Hazel and fly it out so Lt. Saytrus can add to the numbers. Just stay behind the others until you do and you'll be fine." "Yes sir," Garrick replied. "The support team wuill launch, reinforced with the chief mechanic." Garrick hung up the phone. "Damn, I knew I shouldn't have tempted fate. (Ziryab, move to the main thread now, when you can) |
