"We're taking the shuttle because if its an ambush, the shuttle will see it coming long before they see us and we can rabbit. We're taking my Dias for the actual exchange, but Karl's shuttle can outrun any MS in space, which is why its coming with. 'Sides, I got some damn fine moves, we won't get a scratch if it comes to that." Jim said as he crawled into the Vindicator, watching as his Dias was eased into the hold by the deck gang. "Let's do it" he said as he powered the shuttle up.

"Then why did you say we're not taking the Dias, which implies completely different situation. You need to word shit better." Sean said as he entered the ship. Sean looked around. It hadn't changed since the last time he was hear prior to joining the AEUG. Sitting down and strapping himself in, he awaited Jim to pilot them out of there.

(Let just say Downing was able to get lose from Zane who is bugging him  )

Downing still surveying the situation around the hanger, unknowing what actually happening, but still wondering, “Man, I need to mod a camera into a Haro in the future for this sort of mission” was all Downing think of when he was still spying on Bill and Jim who just came and join Bill.

"Well, I coulda said it better, but I figured you knew I wasn't that stupid." Jim told Sean. "Tower, this is Tiger, request clearance to launch" he called into the comm. Getting clearance to launch, Jim hit the gas as the shuttle leaped away from the dock.

After an hour had elapsed, Jim broke the silence. "You don't have to do this, Sean. There are other ways we can free our POWs. You don't need to walk into the gallows to get her out" he told Sean, hoping he could persuade the man not to throw his life away for another.

Sean sighed as Jim tried to once again persuade him to not leave. "The only other way to get her out would be to storm the base. Since the particular base she's on is a ship, that gives us very little room for error, and one misplaced beam will result in her death. The only way to get her out safely at this moment is in this trade. I'll be fine since Ennis wouldn't kill me on the spot if he didn't have any questions for me. If he wanted me dead, I'd be found in an alley with shotgun wounds in my chest in the slums of Von Braun."

Sean didn't allude to his true intentions. His bag contained his pistol, which he planned to use on the Titan pilot once Alicia is out of harms way. He didn't tell Jim this because it might cause him to get cocky and possibly fuck up the whole thing with over confidence. Assessing the worst possible situation is the best possible precaution, even if it was unlikely.

Jim sighed audibly as Sean explained his reasoning. "Guess your lot does it that way. I don't believe in negotiating, and we could've come up with a jailbreak plan. But now, here we are." Jim said, pissed that he was trading a life for another.

Once they neared the rendezvous, Jim crawled through the hatch to the cargo bay and entered the Dias, waiting for Sean before launching.

Karl sat in his office for what was now several hours, he'd spent the time thinking of the times he'd had with Sean, the day they'd first met, Odessa, their blitz through Jaburo and the less than stellar brawl across space, they'd left many friends behind in shallow graves and even more enemies. Now it was all ending because Sean felt morally compelled to sacrifice himself for Alicia, in a way it made sense to Karl but he still thought it was a bad idea, he knew that a snake like James Ennis wasn't to be trusted.

Finally coming to terms with the loss of his best friend Karl got to work on writing out the orders to have Sean's records completely erased from the AEUG's data bases and all of the security codes that he knew, even the minor ones, completely changed. Karl knew Sean wouldn't crack even under torture he couldn't take the chance that they could be compromised, he also wrote out several orders to have the outside security beefed up until further notice. After finishing that up he wrote out the altered flight roster for the squadron, he hated to bring in a new man so close to an important op, it had gotten many of his pilots killed before, but he had no choice and Ambrose wasn't the same as those nuggets.

Chelsea had considerably calmed down since her little reaction with Jim. She had thrown water on her face to calm herself down. She decided to head out into the hall and head towards the mess hall. He mind was once again on the death of her little brother. She was so lost in thought that she didn't realize that there were other people around as she accidentally bumped into Ambrose.

(Ok, time skip now in effect, we're roughly around April 23rd with where we are now, we're jumping to May 10th, the day before the AEUG's big op, staff, set things up in accordance with pre-existing plans, everyone else, do whatever it is that you do...)

It had been two and a half weeks since Sean had left the Gibberish, and Jim was still bitter about it. Seeing Ambrose again was great, but the prospect of flying with him again, which he'd looked forward to immensely, had been snatched away by Karl when he decreed Ambrose would be flying with his Alpha instead of Jim's Gamma. Goddammit Sean, why'd you have to do this? Alicia's a sweet kid and all, but we could've found a better way he knew, despite what Karl and Sean had said. These ex-Zekes wouldn't know a good operational concept if it hit them in the head... oh well. At least Chels and Ibram are getting better

Both of his pilots had been steadily improving over the last two weeks. Ibram had steadily improved, but Jim was impressed with Chelsea. She had been getting better quickly, and was starting to get her fear under control, but Jim knew she was still uneasy around him, and that her fear had only been conquered on the surface. The currents of that ran deep. He was responsible for training one of the 30 Bunch teams, and that was something he still hadn't forgiven himself for; he couldn't expect her to forgive him for it. But I need to be able to count on her in a firefight, and to count on her to listen to me he knew as he headed for her stateroom. He knocked on her hatch. "Ensign, its Leftenant Anderson. I need to speak with you" he said.

Two goddamn weeks...that bastard shouldn't have wasted his life on that useless greenie... was all Eddy could think about as he sat alone in the observation lounge. For the past two weeks, since Sean had left the Gibberish, he'd been badly depressed, and wasn't doing a good job of hiding it.

Though he continued to log in training time with David and Banska to prepare for the mission, Eddy otherwise spent his free time by himself. His once vibrant personality had been replaced by something hostile and near unapproachable. Eddy's looks began to reflect his growing depression, as well.

Even though he was able to sleep again, his eyes now had deep dark circles around the eyelids, and his face was stubbly. If no one noticed those changes, then they were blinder than a man born without sight.

Now, looking out the window, Eddy said silently to himself, with a can of MD Voltage in hand, "You son of a bitch...Michael must be laughing his ass off right now at the irony of all this..."

Karl sat on the bridge next to one of the view ports, watching as the 7th's two ships slipped out of the dock in the very early morning, "Descending Sword" was beginning tomorrow and they were now on their way to move into position for the drop. The training with the ballutes had gone off without a hitch and the new pilots were starting to blossom into real soldiers in their mobile suits.

Karl dearly wished that they could have been sent with more than just their twelve mobile suits to take an entire base but then that was the lot that he'd been thrown by the brass. He looked over at the Captain, "Well Ma'am, do you think we're ready for something like this?"

Kimi had spent the last few weeks stressed out. She used most of her time actually dealing with paperwork for their ordered ballutes, among other supplies the crew needed during the drop operation. As she "wasted" her time on the massive mounds of paper, the Captain could feel that she was getting a little sick again. She really didn't work well under pressure.

The mission itself wasn't what bothered the Captain though; the very fact that they were sending all twelve of their mobile suits left the Gibberish defenseless... they were essentially prime targets for the lurking Titans fleets patrolling around the Earth Sphere. That was never a good sign...

But she's kept her reservations to herself mostly, and would much rather spend that time on getting some rest. So when Karl suddenly dropped a question on her, Kimi's dozing figure snapped awake groggily.

"I honestly don't know..." she replied as she rested her head in her right hand, shifting around in her seat as she closed her sunken eyes. "I think the success of this depends on how well you catch the Titans with their pants down. We haven't been able to pull that off in a long time..."

two weeks ago, after Jim brought Alicia to the ship

Zane watched with empathy as Karl's ship reentered the hangar. He had heard that Jim and Sean had went out on a trip, but it was only a rumor. When the ship's doors opened, Zane observed as Jim and someone with a female body left the ship. Sean obviously wasn't there, making the rumor only half true. The female seemed to be looking around, and as soon as Zane caught a glimpse of the face, he started to cry and ran to her direction. His baby sister was finally safe. Alicia's reaction was the very same, as she had thought her brother dead for nearly over half a decade. The two embraced in all that happy bullshit, and Zane ended up making Alicia promise she'll leave the AEUG. War was no place for her, and this was the only way she'd be safe. With the AEUG being stationed in Von Bruan, there'd be no worries of the Titans looking for her, and he'd set her up with a job as a dishwasher to one of the restaurant owners who owes Zane a favor. Zane had planed on leaving with her until she informed him that Bill had traded himself for her. Astonished and outraged at the same time, Zane promised he'd stay with the AEUG until his friend and commander was released to return the favor of getting his sister back to him.

(Alicia is a boring character, so this will be the best way for us to not worry about RPing her, and gives us motivation for Zane to stay with the AEUG because we need his craziness. )

Gaunt

As usual, Gaunt was running simulations in his Nemo. He'd gotten steadily better over the past few weeks, spending every moment he wasn't sleeping or eating training. As of that moment he was running the drop operation program. It was the seventh time he'd run it that day, and he'd only been shot down twice. Once he'd caught a few rounds in the ballute, sending him spinning to earth a flaming bit of wreckage. The next time a Titan had pulled a suicide run after having its own ballute shot out from under it and rammed him. Five out of seven times, however, he'd made it to earth safely. He still couldn't simulate earth's gravity with the equipment at hand, so he couldn't accurately train for what happened when they actually got there, but the drop would make it or break it for the attack. So he focused on that.

Some would say he was working himself to death, but Ibram had promised himself that he wouldn't be the drag on his team. Of the three of them he was determined not to be the one the others had to look out for, and he never had been. He would be ready for anything when it finally came time for zero-hour. He'd drilled, simulated, trained, ran the numbers for every possible situation he could come up with and more.

He was getting better. He tried not to be eager to finally show the others what he could do. His glorious team leader would only say that only a moron would be eager to go to war, and he understood that, he really did. Still, it was about time Ibram was let off the sidelines. He'd been a mechanic for years, watching the pilots carry the war effort. He'd done his part, but it was the pilots that really mattered, that really changed things. He wanted to be a part of it. As Ibram started the drop simulation again he kept that on his mind. It was time to really do his part.

For Side 1 and all of space.
