Zane jerked his arm away from Karl's grip. "I don't need to be dragged around, thanks." He fell in line and continued to follow Karl's lead. "I had no intention of leaving this place anyway..."

"But do you understand why it's a problem for you to be here? What you did at Pezun could royally fuck the AEUG if the Titans find out you're alive and well, I'm still beyond words about it."

Banska surveyed the damage from the comfort of his GM II’s cockpit. “Another day, another dollar”, the pilot said to himself. He had no idea where anyone from the Gibberish was but that was no longer his concern anyway. The lone veteran continued to stand guard at the mouth of the ravaged hangar…

After informing Bill of his suspicions, Edward decided not to speak any further and left, giving Bill a ‘be careful’ look as he headed towards the turbolift heading down to the deck where his quarters were located. He didn't expect the man to reply; he'd had enough grief to deal with. For now, Edward needed to make good on Ennis’ offer of time and save his family from the wrath of the Titans. As he heard the turbolift whirring, Edward still thought that there was still a part of Ennis that could be reasoned with. But, he wouldn’t touch the subject until he made sure that his family was safe first.

The turbolift stopped, and Edward stepped out, walking towards his quarters. As he reached the door, he unlocked it and opened the door, stepping inside and locking it again. Walking over to the visual communications terminal afforded to ship’s officers, Edward set the communication frequency to change every three seconds. With his scrambler system working, he sent a message to Florida, for it was time for the plan to protect his family to be set into motion.

____________________________________________________________________

As she watched the waves crashing back down onto the wet sand from the balcony of their condo, Heather looked up into the sky, hoping that her husband was still safe. Suddenly, she heard a beeping noise coming from her bedroom. Walking back inside, she saw that it was the communicator that had been installed. Heather immediately activated her scrambler system and activated the interface. Looking at the face on that screen, it was no doubt that the man was her husband. With a smile on her face, Heather said to Edward,

“It’s good to see you’re still alive.”

“Same here, Heather. I only wish that this communication were under better circumstances.”

Suddenly, the happy look on Heather’s face disappeared and she looked at her husband with a stern face.

“Is it time?”

“Yeah, it is. But, we have time on our side. I have until Ennis files his report. Can you get out of there in time for my contacts to get you to the safehouse?”

As Heather heard the last name of Edward’s mentor, friend and best man at their wedding, she knew that her husband was slightly distraught. Putting her hand on the screen, Heather said with comfort intended,

“Eddy, I’m sorry…”

“It’s alright, Heather. Somehow, I expected it. But, it doesn’t matter now. Can you get out of there in time?”

“…Yes, we can. I’ll tell Amelia that we’re going on a vacation.”

“Alright. I’m sorry I dragged you and Amelia into this…”

“Shh, don’t say another word. It comes with the job. We’ll be okay.”

“…Alright, I’ll send a message to my contacts for them to pick you up. I’ll see you soon, Heather. When this is all over, I’ll make sure that this was all worth it.”

“I know you will, Eddy. I love you…”

“I love you, too. Stay safe,” Edward said as he closed the channel and watched the image of his wife fade from the screen. Now, he needed to make one more call. Punching in his authorization code, he sent another message to a secret location. Getting a blank reception, Edward heard the words,

“The crow caws at midnight.”

“But the snitch is always a loudmouth in the end.”

“Is it time for that plan of yours to be put into effect, LeNoir?”

“Yeah, it is. My wife and daughter will be waiting for you in time.”

“Understood. They will be safe, or we will die trying.”

“I know you will, Anderson. I think that your old friend would be proud of you.”

“Yeah, I’ll bet that Michael would be damn proud of me for taking a risk like this. See you, LeNoir.”

“Adios,” Edward said as he closed the channel on the final transmission. Now, with everything set in place, he deactivated the terminal and switched off the scrambler system. He now waited to see his plan unfold, and see that his family was safe.

____________________________________________________________________

Heather peeked into Amelia’s room, seeing that she wanted to take the koto that Akiko had given her as a birthday present. Everything else had been packed for both of them, but Heather knew that Amelia wanted to take that instrument with her. Walking in, Heather picked up the instrument and told her daughter,

“I’ll take it. You worry about everything else.”

Smiling at her mother, Amelia gave her a tight hug and kissed her on the cheek. Letting Amelia go to bring her things down to the living room, Heather went to her bedroom and took the last two bags out as she brought them downstairs. One contained all her personal belongings, including pictures of her and Eddy, friends of the family and that one photo that she always cherished, that day when Eddy, herself, Amelia, David and Akiko were on the beach. The other was a bag of supplies and weapons, if they should ever have to be used.

As she prepared to leave, Heather saw a large black van pull up to the residence. Pulling out that gun she had kept for self-defense, she quietly stepped out and saw the door open. Stepping out was a man with black sunglasses, short black hair and a scar on his cheek. He said quietly,

“Heaven’s for saints.”

“But hell’s for heretics.”

“Mrs. LeNoir, it’s a pleasure. Robert Anderson,” the man said, outstretching his hand. Softly shaking it, Heather motioned him and two other men to assist her in loading their things into the van. As they loaded the family’s things into the van, they felt a shade of pride in what they were doing. Helping to save a family was just as important as piloting, their superiors had told them. After about twenty minutes, everything was loaded into the van and everybody was in. As they took one last look at their home, Heather and Amelia watched as they headed for a new life. As she silently prayed to God for giving her such a caring husband, she also thanked Ash for giving Eddy something that he felt was worth fighting for…her love, and their child.

____________________________________________________________________

After waiting about fifteen to twenty minutes, Edward received a transmission on his communicator. Switching back on the scrambler system, he saw another black screen, and heard Anderson’s voice.

“The fragile package has been received. We’re on our way to the factory.”

“Take good care of that package, Anderson.”

“Don’t worry, we will.”

The channel then closed; Edward now satisfied that his family, his entire life, was safe and sound from the vengeance of the Titans. There were no tracks, no trace, anything that would lead the Titans to his family was destroyed. Now, with a clear mind, Edward shut off the communicator and left his quarters, locking the door again.

____________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile, as Phillip continued to keep up appearances, he did it almost too well; he ignored the messages sent by Edward as standard transmissions. However, as he continued to monitor transmissions, Caine grew slightly worrisome that he may be discovered before he could escape safely. That he may not be able to get off the ship without causing attention…but put those aside as he kept up appearances.

This would be one of his greatest mistakes…keeping up appearances, too well. He had, without knowing it, denied the Titans valuable leverage against one of the AEUG’s pilots.

Ryan had returned to the room and plopped down at his desk. He rubbed his sinus as he thought over their conundrum. On one hand, they had to pursue the stolen unit and their missing pilot, but they couldnt risk losing more pilots/units if they fall into a trap. What Ryan chose was the lesser of two evils... especially with Ennis in charge of that attacking fleet.

At this point, Ryan would have to find ways to outmanuver him. His saving grace was that Ennis didnt know Ryan was in charge of this AEUG squad. Meanwhile, Ryan knew fully well what Ennis was capable of by experience. He must use this to his advantage.

“Right, keep on your toes Phil.” Banska said as he turned his GM II and began to walk his machine back to the Repulse. ‘God this is a boring job’ Banska thought to himself as he lazily gazed at the forward monitor.

Marcus pulled off his helmet as he climbed off his GM Custom. He had gone through plenty of shit before, but nothing of this calibur. He was on the "losing side" and yet, oddly enough, it felt normal. It was a relaxing feeling, one that comes over someone when they feel like they've done something right. Marcus doesnt get this often, if at all.

"Looks like I got my priorities straight for once..." he muttered to himself. He never had this when he was a Titan. Every mission ended with a chill up his spine when he was in that organization. Looking back, only now did he realize how out of place he was for joining them.

"So this is Zane..." Ryan says as he looked up from his desk. Hard to believe that this very man who had threatened to nuke Pezun was standing right in front of him. He recognized the face... it was the same one as the time when Zane and Sean were taken prisoner on the Stallion many years ago. Only this time, face was older and less dazed.

"Can we trust you not to do anything stupid like that Pezun incident...?" Ryan asked skeptically. He wasnt planning on letting a nutjob into the AEUG, and if Zane showed any sign of such extremist ideas things were gonna get ugly.

After a while of just sitting in his cockpit, Alex finally exited his GM II and headed down to the mechanics for a bit.

"So any news on what the Titans were after?" Alex asked amongst the group, hoping someone at least had more of a clue than he did.

"Haven't heard anything yet," A mechanic replied, not really thrilled that a "rookie" was keeping him from his job. "For all I know it was just a standard Titan raid." Alex stood for a while, taking it in and trying to add it to his own information. However, he was still left pretty well in the dark, so he'd have to ask other people.

"HEY!!!" Alex turned as another mechanic came into the hanger "Ensign Senne is coming in, if you're not gonna wear a normal suit, you might want to get outta here." Alex replied with a nod and left the hanger, making his way towards the crew lounge to continue getting lost in thought.

"You have nothing to worry about," Zane calmly replied. "I have no intention of starting anything like that again."

It was the truth. There was only one thing that mattered him to him now...

"I take it then, that you would allow me to join you as a pilot?"

"Seems like it... as you could easily see, we're quite undermanned and very much outgunned," Ryan replied. "Any new guy we can get, we'll take as long as they dont do anything stupid..."
