We had a spammer last night posting horrible things in each forum. I deleted his account, but for some reason I could not remove his posts. I had to delete each thread he posted to. So this means that the last 4 threads on each forum have been deleted.

P.s. moderators be very watchful when adding a new member. I did ban his IP, but he might get in again somehow. So when adding new members, keep an eye on the board to see if things get posted that shouldn't be. He posted stuff that nobody except extremely sick people want to see. Sometimes being a moderator, having to deal with such garbage is aweful :(

Ack! Thanks for taking care of that, Jeroen. Todd sent me a PM about it a little while ago, and I looked but couldn't find the guy in the member list since you had already done it. Only saw your news post just now!

I'm not geeky enough to know all the ins and outs of a board like this. But it does seem weird that we can't delete single posts!

And now I'm wondering--I've been trying to check the pending new members every day or so. When they have met the username rules, I approve them. When they don't, I reject them and then send a brief email saying that they can try again if they follow the name rules. Should I not do that? Sometimes I actually recognize the person from some other board or whatever, and I make them follow the same rules. Others, hoo, how to know?

Well, yuck. Sorry that happened, but we all appreciate your quick response.

In this case I approved the new member yesterday. It was a full name according to the rules, so no way I could have seen what was coming. In that respect is Invisionfree quite limited in preventing such cases. You don't know who you are approving, and they can go post directly everywhere. On other boards I've had options where you can install that the first posts of a new member have to be approved before they are put online. That way you can take care of such things without anyone besides the moderators having to see it. I was also missing the option to delete a member including all his posts. I also didn't have much time to seek other options, as I had to go to work and was already late. So the only option was to delete the topics. Still upset about it, some things you really do not want to see.

Thanks Jeroen and moderators for deleting that horrible stuff. Poor kids. Man, we are a rotten species sometimes, often. :(

Thanks for clearing things up, Jeroen. I missed the action (and don't regret it). I personally am not too savvy with the details of limiting initial posting by new members, etc, but after this case perhaps tomorrow I'll look into it.

By the way, for deleting individual posts you should just be able to click "delete" in the top right-hand corner of any given post.

You are lucky you missed those.. I wonder if the illegal pics were posted here to have us host them --and then used on another transitory site for sick folks, so that they couldn't be easily traced. Scaphism would be good for the folks that do that to kids :)

That button was gone with his posts after I deleted his account.

Hello together, Hello my dear friends,

You have made nothing false, Jeroen. Who is counting with such a terrible matter. The human is the greatest animal on the earth. The poor children! But these terrible things I cannot forgot. I see always the horrible pictures in my head. On this afternoon I was at the police station in our town because I have to make an annunciation about this dirty criminal. Such things must be traced by the police and the justice. It’s a shame.

Kind regards from Germany,

Thomas

Jeroen, thank you for jumping on this so quickly. I made the mistake of checking the forum last night and saw there were a bunch of new posts by a new member. I made the mistake of clicking on the first one. Wow. It's unfortunate that we lost a bunch of threads but it's what had to be done. Thank you.

I asked one of the computer guys at work about the possibility of restoring the lost threads from something archived on the web, and was told to try Wayback Machine. Took a look, but it seems the most recent saved edition is from September. So maybe not a lot of help... Didn't have time to compare, though.

He also said the police should be notified as well as whoever actually owns the server (Invisionfree). They'll undoubtedly want the IP and any other details, since this is serious felony stuff. Plus we need to save or backup everything if possible, in case of further attacks or if the site gets locked by the authorities or something. My guess is that failing to be enthusiastic enough about tracking that animal down may make us complicit.

So, Gregory, over to you, I guess! Actually, Invisionfree might have established procedures and legal contacts, if you go to them first.

Sigh...

Thanks Matt.

Jeroen, can you PM me the IP address and the handle that he used, and perhaps a brief description of exactly what you would say he posted? I don't see how I could access any of that at this point and did not witness the activity firsthand. I never got beyond the basics when it came to the details of this system so am of little use except to relay the information to Invision and wherever else it may be necessarily, which I'll happily take responsibility for.

What was the name of the spammer? Because I received a PM from someone named "Jon Caser" and now I'm afraid to open it.

Also, while navigating this forum I sometimes get a message asking me whether I want to leave the page or not, which I didn't get before.

That's the guy. I couldn't see a way to delete it without opening it, more child porn, so deleted it. I thought he had a bot sending the email to everyone. Why? I'm not sure --wouldn't be able to use the pics on another site, that way.

I've used this platform to create book group forums for my library and over time porn spammers from China attacked it --blocked every IP address I could, but they just kept using new ones.. Had to eventually shut it down <_<

Thanks for letting me know. I've selected the message in my inbox and then used the "delete" button to the lower right. That way I could get rid of it without having to open it.

Is it now completely safe to browse this forum again? Because I don't want to get this stuff on my computer or even see it.

Didn't see that button. Sigh. Probably we'll get attacked again at some point. People can and have been arrested in public libraries and led out in cuffs for putting that stuff online.
