BERNARD TAN Violin Concerto World Premiere
R. STRAUSS Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Op. 28

"I am affected by everything extraordinary that goes on in the world and think it over in my own way, then I long to express my feelings and find an outlet for them in my music: a poem, something infinitely more spiritual, the result of poetical consciousness." - Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856)

Singaporean composer Bernard Tan unveils his newly-minted Violin Concerto with SSO co-leader Lynnette Seah as soloist. Laugh at the audacious antics of Till Eulenspiegel, the prankster of German folklore. Schumann's intense Fourth Symphony was completed in 1841 soon after his First Symphony, but his 1851 revision of the work resulted in its being placed last, after the other three. This is the first of a series commemorating Robert Schumann's 150th death anniversary.
