Oh yea, since i am a MEP student before, i might as well share some of my feelings, well i taken MEP in MGS (lots of cute gals there eveileyes(haha) ) 2 years ago. Well i have some friends who don't have a grade 4 in anything, but then one of them got in cos he passed the entrance test . The entrance test is something like a theory test to see if u have enough knowledge to take MEP. Well since u want to take bass clar as your first instrument, it is quite hard unless u have a grade 5 practical in it. Most students in MEP major in Piano, same as me, i finish my ATCL exam through, none in my batch took other instruments other then piano. But if u think u are really good enough, i suggest u go in and try the test :)

Piece u must chose yourself. The standard of the piece must be comparable to the standard of the O level music.

music selection test? means you are not an MEP student but only an O lvls music student, a lot of people is confused.... MEP needs an additional instrument, but O lvls music only need one instrument, your core instrument, any instrument.... but one is gd enough....

I do suggest you use keyboard instruments like organ or piano. But if you only have clarinet, better make sure you are like gd, or real gd, if not, its not going to get you anywhere. Frankly speaking though.... sorry.... music selection test is easy, you just need to take like basic grade 3 theory and its gonna be sufficient for it already.

Yups, gd luck to you!

Erm i think u are talking about A level MEP . A level MEP needs one more additional instrument. But O level MEP just need to be a first instrument. I suggest piano. That's the most typical.

no, you got me wrong..... Let me clarify certain issues....

For O lvl MEP, you need your core instrument which is your MAIN instrument, in my opinion, prefably a keyboard instrument instrument like piano. Apart from this, you would need ANOTHER instrument, either from the band, chinese orchestra or even strings! Guess what, you can even take the drums as one of it, but of course you gotta be good. Now this is for O lvls MEP.

For O lvls Music, you only need one instrument, in my opinions also, keyboard instrument prefably piano. In this case, you DO NOT NEED another instrument. this is the main difference between O lvls music and the O lvls MEP.

Now for the A lvls MEP, its a different story. You need your MAIN instrument, be it keyboard, from the band, chinese orchestra or strings, yes you need one of it. THT would be your main instrument for use in practical. Now apart from your MAIN instrument, there is a greater challenge to A lvls MEP. Akin to the O lvls MEP, you need to take another instrument, but this time, the instrument which you take up, CANNOT BE OF WESTERN INSTRUMENTATION. Which means that any instruments from the chinese orchestra is ok.

Now I hope I was clear in the explanation? haha yups, trust me, I have been through it.... Handsup(dude)

Sorry didn't know about it, but i am still a bit confuse. Just say that i take O level music at MGS cos my sch didnt offer the course, but at over at MGS, the teacher said that we are taking MEP which stands for Music elective program, but we use piano as our core instrument. So i am a bit confuse really. So what am i really taking ? O level music or O level MEP ? :)
