Tenuto is to show that a note is to be sustained for its full value with equal dynamic emphasis, meaning e notes are exactly the same. The note is tongued in a normal manner. As for Legato, it means that all the notes enclosed are to be played without any outstanding interruption. (eg. tongue too hard) Thus, for Tenuto notes in Legato, the notes shld be played slightly separated and VERY lightly tongued. The notes must be equal and played in full value. The best way is to use the 'du' tonguing which would softly articulate the notes. One must also remember to extend the notes to their full value while playing tenuto legato. 'Doooo' tonguing. Hope that explains and answers the question. Good luck!

sometimes if u use a "la" tougning on a trombone to play tenuto notes maybe help in preventing ur notes from getting out of tune due to unstable air as it helps in focusing your air into the instrument. |
