Yah, Open Season looked terrible.
I watched "28 Days" today, which was a Sandra Bullock film about rehab. It was pretty interesting and different than what I was expecting, and, though it wasn't terrible, there wasn't really anything very memorable about it, aside from some random joke made by a minor character. 5. |

Yah, I hadn't ever heard of it either. It wasn't that great, but Sandra Bullock can be pretty good occasionally. But then you don't like romantic comedies, so myeh.

Ahh, I see. Anywho, today I watched (or tried to watch) "Catch A Fire" another film about conflict in Africa. It wasn't terribly bad, but it didn't have anything special going for it, and the plot and characters weren't protrayed very well. It was just boring and pretty pointless, and I stopped watching because I didn't feel like devoting my time to wach it. 4. If you want to watch a good film about conflict in Africa, skip this one and see Blood Diamond or The Last King Of Scotland. |

I should see Blood Diamond, it's on my list. Speaking of Last King, there was this commercial for SNL, and it had Whitaker...here's the quotes: "Hi I'm Forest Whitaker, and I'll be hosting SNL this Saturday." (Random girl 1) "He's a big teddy bear." (Random girl 2) "Don't you just want to cuddle him." (Random Girl 1) "Yep, a big teddy bear." But I'm the dictator Imi Amin. (Both) "A big cuddly teddy bear." |

Pretty comical.
Today I saw "The Story Of Us" which is a romantic drama about, interestingly enough, a break up. It was actually pretty good and believable, though there were times when the characters felt a little unnatural. Despite the semi-awkwardness of watching it with my mom (who recently went through a divorce), it was a good movie with its ups and down. I give it a 7.5. |

Hahaha.. yeah... I haven't seen many movies lately, though I know I should have... it looks like a good crop... Seriously, the only movies I can think of right now that I've seen in theatres this entire year are: The Illusionist (7.5) The Prestige (7) The U.S. Versus John Lennon (6) Click (4.5) Cars (7.5) PotC: DMC (6.5) That's it! That's this entire year! Since last February! I'm probably missing a few, and I rented a lot of movies this year, but still. I haven't even seen Borat, Little Miss Sunshine, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, or An Inconvenient Truth yet! I might see Children of Men sometime soon. 12 Monkeys and 28 Days Later really turned me on to the idea of dystopian future films, and despite the fact that Children of Men doesn't have a number in its title, it looks pretty cool.

You poor soul! You must now go to the theatre for an entire day and watch every single movie in alphabetical order! As for your movies you "haven't even seen:" Borat (6 for "originality"): It was insanely comical at times while terribly stupid at others. Definitely unique and capable of providing a few good laughs, but not really anything special, unless you're just in a silly mood. Little Miss Sunshine (7.5 for originality): I really like this movie - I actually bought it. Its really kind of difficult to explain, and some of the humor will certainly get lost on you if you take it too seriously, but its one of the best examples of situational comedy I can think of. A great film indeed. An Inconvinient Truth (??? for ??? [we'll say originality, just because ]): I still havn't seen this. Its kind of becoming an inside joke with my mother and I... one that isn't funny whatsoever (the situation of us never seeing it, not the movie itself!) I'm going to give it a 10, though, just to piss off Peter.
Children Of Men: I assume you read my review. Very strange movie, but VERY good, especially if you enjoy those post/pre-apocalyptic glimpses into humanity's not-so distant yet entirely plausible/impossible future. |

An Inconveinent Truth: 6, a solid documentary, though the guy narrating it has a ugly ass face, and I didn't like the fact that most of it was just a power point presentation. I also didn't liek that most of his facts were incomplete focusing to much on one aspect of a much larger study, and it was built like this to make the information much more exaggerated then it actually should be. It was lacking solid correlational studies, and a wide sample of studies, but rather focused on or two things that do not correlate directly to any other reasons that could support the theories. However it doesn't take away from common sense, that Global Warming is happening, it's just a question of who is causing it.:) |

I don't know why you would think that I didn't believe in Global Warming? I believe it is a natural cycle, and that the fact that there is more Carbon in the air dosen't mean a damn thing until it is proven that is actually does cause something. That hole in the o-zone layer? Uhm...no evidence that actually proves that it was caused by carbon dioxide. Also, there is strong evidence that it could be caused by a very frequent phenomenon. (Every 100,000-600,000 years) where the poles of the Earth reverse, and thus screw with the magnetic field of the athmosphere, and can create holes in the athmoshpere where the magnetic field dosent' protect against harmful UV rays.^_^ |

Thats true, but thats just believing one side of the theory and not another (not saying that any other evidence is more likely, though.) I just found it odd that you wouldn't completely bash the film. Anywho, I believe I expressely stated that there was NO political jargon here. Well I think lots of people are missing the point, including Al Gore. Or maybe he gets it better than anyone... Global Warming is not that big a deal in a geological sense, and it's perfectly reasonable to theorize that we aren't causing it. But it is a fact that we humans are doing some terrible things to the environment and to ourselves. There is no logical reason at all to be a single person or couple with very little luggage, doing all of your driving on paved roads, and have an SUV. There are plenty of logical reasons not to have an SUV, on the other hand, but there are still a very significant number of people who fit this definition. Oil is running out, not to mention the economic and international problems it causes even if it were infinite, so even ignoring the real, measurable effects of pollution, we need to find sustainable energy sources and switch over to them as soon as possible. Al Gore and other people warning us of global warming may have a point, but they are just getting people riled up with their pictures of penguins in deserts and whatever. This may be a good thing, though... Penguins in deserts would be pretty cool, actually. BUT I DIGRESS! So anyway... um... Syko, you liked World According to Garp? I'm thinking of renting that. I read the book by John Irving recently, and it was fantastic. Highly recommended. I also love Mr. Williams. Oh, and I assume that Lithgow plays Roberta? On another on-topic note, how many of the Monty Python movies have you folks seen? I've been watching the Flying Circus, and realized that I have only seen Holy Grail. How are Life of Brian, Meaning of Life, and Live at the Hollywood Bowl, for those who have seen them? |

On Global Warming: I concur! You said it wonderfully, especially the whole thing about hating SUV's and penguins in deserts.
On "World According to Garp:" Indeed you are correct here as well. It was a wonderful movie all around and quite quirky. I can't speak for the book personally, though my mother did read it and said the film followed it quite admirably, though the book was still better (as is the usual case.) And Lithgow does play Roberta. On Monty Python: I see Holy Grail quite often. As for Flying Circus and the Meaning of Life, I saw both of them a long time ago with a friend who owned pretty much all Monty Python memorabillia there was. I don't remember either very much, though I do know they were hilarious.

I agree, we switch to renewable resources, and the faster the better. This is one thing Bush is doing right. By slowly swtiching you give the companies an easier finacinal and plausible transition. ThougH I think 20 years might be a long time frame. I fear democrats might push the time frame to much, and that would be bad. Anyways...good movies I've seen... None. Oh well. Movies I kinda want to see... Running with Scirrocs? Anyone see? Comments? |

Dude, seriously, like WTF!? Take the political jargon out of my thread!
Running With Scissors: I actually really liked this movie. Ebert and Roeper didn't seem to (I saw a show with their "Ten Worst Films of 2006" and it was #1 on one's list and #3 on the other's - Dudes, seriosuly, like WTF!?) I don't know what their problem was (they said it was "unrelatable" - Who the hell cares!?) but I thought it was really good. I don't know if you'd really like it (the main character is homosexual) but it was wonderful. My summation was "comically crazy, deliciously depressing, and eerily entertaining." I give it an 8. |

Children of Men: 9/10. This is a great, GREAT, GREAT movie, one of the best I've ever seen by far. I thank syko a million times over for introducing me too good movies, and each time I watch a movie, I have a new favorite, I might place this in one of my top three spots. I suggest you at least watch chalcoks, I might even buy it. There were a few scenes that seemed to drag on a little bit, though I know that was the point, maybe a 30 second cut would have been sufficient, and I think the brief nudity was unneeded, though more needed then most films that use it. Anyways, I highly recommended it, for its artistic, and emotional accomplishments. And the movie is emotional, I was the closest to crying I had been since I watched The Green Mile, and the people were just walking and staring. This is a must watch. |

Indeed, I'm ever so glad that you enjoyed it. I bought it and have watched it twice within the past day (with different people, not just because I can :P,) and it really gets better every time you see it. I agree about some of the scenes dragging on, though I think the movie very effectively portrayed the dismal realism it aimed for, and the cinematography is simply spectacular. I also agree about the nudity, as, though it wasn't distasteful or truly out of place, it really didn't need to be in there. After seeing it a few more times, I really think this should have at least gotten a nod for Best Picture, if not won outright, as its competors (Blood Diamond, Babel, The Departed, and [I think] Little Miss Sunshine) did not quite achieve the emotional impact that Children of Men had throughout. This is a very intense and nearly flawless movie which actually portrays a message which is both frightening and moving. One of my top ten favorite movies, no doubt (its actually one of the few which I rated a ten when I went through hundreds of movies the other day.) |

I think I will buy it, and add it to my small collection...The Producers, Family Guy 3 and 4, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. All great movies, and TV shows, but nothing serious. I'm goign to watch Blood Diamond this weekend, or perhaps The Pursuit of Happyness. |
