Apparently, he's only doing these terrible movies for the money, which kinda pisses me off. |

Me too, but at the same time I just say good for him! If he were an actor I hated, I'd add him to my Death List. But he's Steve Martin, man! Also, this is rapidly degenerating into spam, so uhh... Finding Nemo (9.4/10) Its uhh... its good? |

It isn't spam if we're discussing a recent movie and the degradation of an actors career in relation to it. I don't care, a good actor like that shouldn't sell himself out like that. He's on my death list, which by that, I mean I'll never watch one of his movies again. |

"Snatch" by Guy Ritchie is amazing! I thought he was just some guy who was married to Madonna for a while. But this was a really good movie and you should see it. Okay? Okay. |

Oh yah, Snatch is a fantastic film. Literally the only movie that I can stand Jason Statham in, as its simply so convolutedly complex and has such great humor. Brad Pitt was the best by far, but all of the characters were superb. ^.^ |

I have to push the Godfather again, a little slow in the middle, but an utterly fantastic movie! 9.5/10 |

Knowing: Such an average movie. I kinda liked the fact it explored one of the foundations of humanity, religion, and in particular Christinatiy in such a way that really makes you think about where all these creation myths come from, and why their so similar. But other then that. Nothing new, predictable, and it's nothing you haven't seen in any other movie ever. I found myself just wishing the movie would move on through completely useless/annoying scenes. |

My sister and I watched that a few weeks back, too! It was so amazingly average that we just didn't know how much we should hate it. The weird thing about it was just how randomly abject it became in the end, and how pointless the entire story was made because of what eventually happened. If they hadn't gone down that path, and had instead simply explored the concept a little more, it might have actually been a good film. At least the plane crash was pretty awesome! |

Yes, it was pretty awesome. But it was that point that I went...'blah' to the whole movie and just kind sat back and let it unravel just as I thought it would. |

Wait, just as you thought it would? Then you expected the third act to veer off into an incredibely irrelevant natural disaster which the main character had absolutely no control over and which also entirely invalidated the entire point of the film? |

I thought it would end in mediocrity. I was just already sitting, and didn't feel like getting up by the time the third act rolled around. Plus I had to see how they destroyed the movie! Can't rightfully bash a movie without seeing how it was destroyed.

District 9 (7/10): So this movie has been getting a lot of buzz recently as one of the best Sci-Fi films ever. It certainly had great digital effects and some top-notch action sequences, but thats really about all that it had. I went into it with an open mind, expecting a film which would do the unexpected, but not really demanding too much of it. If you've not heard of it, District 9 is a film which flips the standard "alien invasion" cliche' on its axis. Instead, when an alien mothership arrives on Earth, it doesn't hover threatingly over a major and influential city, but rather remains motionless over Johanesberg, Nigeria, for three months. When people finally decide that the best course of action is to break into it, they find millions of starved, clueless aliens locked inside of it. As the aliens seem no more intelligent than the average human and have no discernible means of operating their ship, they are relocated to an area outside of the city in order to offer them aid. Over the course of twenty years, this area becomes fenced off and known as District 9, a slums comprised of the entire alien population. As humans become less enthused with the alien concentration, the Nigerian government decides to relocate them somewhere else, employing the MNU, a warmongering corporation, to see it through efficeintly. Thats the general jist of the film, and it is, at least in my opinion, a very intriguing and promising premise, as it offers the chance for some extremely deep conjectures concerning the nature of humanity in respect to sentient life, as well as our tendencies to commit "evil" acts towards those whom we see as different. Unfortunately, the film barely explores any of this, and, rather than focusing on dialogue and interactions between humans and the aliens, it instead follows the path of Wicus, the office-worker put in charge of heading the eviction notices, as he consorts with the aliens. It does this in a unique, though rather linear narrative, which could have contained some memorable and compelling scenes, but instead falls into a heavy action film as he shoots his way towards seld-preseveration, not really caring about his alien comrades until the very end, in his obligatory, and frankly arbitrary, act of redemption. And while the film manages to make you pity and side with the aliens over the warmongering MNU corporation, it never really goes in depth to provide you a reason for liking the aliens other than that it portarys humans as abyssmal, malevolent creatures. You only really get to know two aliens, who hardly have any lines with substance, and the rest are depicted as a mob, who, despite being subjected to terrible living conditions at the hands of humanity, are no better than people. My main problem with the plot of the film, disregarding all of the things that it could have done better, is simply its depiction of humanity. While it is true that humans are capable of such evil, and the general population of a city whose resources are being drained by a neighboring alien population would likely begin to riot and despie the aliens, the film had absolutely no mention of humanity in a positive light. In the situation presented by the film, there would be dozens of charity organizations set up by humans to help the aliens, to provide them with better living conditions, food, learning, and everything in between. While the Nigerian government may barely tolerate the aliens, the UN and other countries would step in and do something. And where were all of the scientists? Aliens arriving on Earth would be the largest scientific event in our history, and we would study them in every way that we could, yet the film only touched upon this by showing MNU's labratories treating the aliens as research specimens. While it was realistic in many ways, I felt that simply ignoring these aspects of human civilization made it feel false and forced, almost manipulative in its efforts to make you sympathize with the aliens. And that feels strange coming from me, considering how much I hate humanity by default! Regardless, the film was entertaining and interesting, as well as fun to watch. The filming techniques (excepting the documentary aspects) and general tone of the film reminded me a lot of Children of Men, so perhaps I'm being a bit harsh on it because of that connected comparison, as once I got a bit into the movie, I really wanted it to achieve the same things that Children of Men did. Mostly, though, the film was just hollow - a shell of awesomness which was worth watching, but a huge let down when you realize there isn't anything inside of it. |
