Well from Chalocks' description, it dosnt sound satanic. Its just trying to destroy the universe so they can recreate it to their liking, the universe is a lot bigger than Satan.

Do you know what you just said? That actually does sound like something the devil would do, destroy the universe and create to his liking... Even if the idea isn't, the art is well, wow, just like the worst of magic's black creatures or spells. Just the fact that they have gods(as in more then one) and stuff is really aganist my beliefs. Also, minion, abominaiton. |

lol, there is an ad for a site called "Is there really a Devil?" at the bottom of the screen. *ahem* Well, it's not like Wizards doesn't acknowledge that this game is going to be controversial. In fact, they revel in it: The slogan they used for GenCon, along with a picture of Moloch (an ancient pagan deity to whom children were sacrificed) was "Hecatomb: Destined to be blamed for something". Still, if the flavor might not be to your liking, you have to realize that all aspects of gameplay are brilliant. This was clearly well-thought-out, and could be another big breakthrough game for Wizards. There is a big crowd of people (coughGOTHScough) who will play this for the evil, almost (though of course not explicitly) Satanic flavour, another group, many of them former Magic players, who will play for the gameplay (count me in), and then those who object to it. I don't think this game will be overthrown by religious activists anytime soon, though I can see all your points (even being the Liberal Lunatic that I am) as valid. We'll see how this works out, and of course you never have to play if you don't want to. By the way, packs are in packs of 13 (not the best packaging, but hey- it's pentagonal) and Starter Packs of 40. These Starter Packs include 40 random cards, Soul Counters, and the rules- they are very compact which means they can be used for Sealed Deck as well. (You get one Starter Pack, one booster- since there is no seperate card type for mana, you can fit in a lot more cards. In fact, building a Sealed Deck as I saw it at the release was basically choosing three colors, cutting a few cards, and you're done! They may have to work on that. The first expansion will be called Last All Hallow's Eve, and releases on (of course) Halloween. |

The gameplay does seem brillantly put togther, and will thought out, but my dad didn't let me even touch magic cards til' just recently, and this Hecatomb game is freaking me out, so there is little way I'd be able to play it. About your point on the churches critizing this game, they did it with magic, and if Hecatomb becomes at least half way as popular of magic it'll critized faster then a road runner getting it my a truck doing way more then it should going down a mountain. |

However, the churches still have a lot more on their hands right now than a trading card game. (Here in MA, there has been a lot of controversy about the gay-priest thing.) And if Magic has gone unharmed by religion for this long, I'm pretty sure Hecatomb will stay around at least a while longer. |

I dont understand why they would choose that theme in the world today. i think its a shame if such a well thought out game is taken down because people object to the ideas. |

Well, as I said, the themes are going to appeal greatly to many teenagers, who are of course their target audience... |

Well, I'm guessing they took that concept (let's make a sort of "horror game" that will appeal to Goths, since they're a good target audience) and then thought "how can we make this game the best possible?" That in my mind cancels eachother out with regard to morals. I guess... |

Looks like a fun game, religious groups have more important issues to deal with than the art and flavor of some developing card game that may not even catch on. The "dark" flavor does completely erase the feeling of playing with pokemon. I like it, but as magic was when I first started, I'm confuzzeled.
