I hate that card, get it out of my thread.

I can't tell whether you are being sarcastic or not. If you aren't, WTF? It's part of an interesting cycle with good flavor and art (and creature-type Lammassu), which satisfies us Vorthoses, has lots of room for Johnnys to build decks around, it's a big cool creature for Timmys, and for you Spikes, IT'S A 5/5 FLYING FOR FOUR! You can power that out on third turn easily, and the drawback is quite easily counteracted.

Which one?

Reminds me more of Miyazaki, personally.

I'm not being sarcastic, well maybe a little abou tkicking it out of my thread, but I do hate it, I'd never play it, flavor is good though, but I"d never ever play it, ecpeically against syko, as his decks have enough creatures I'd have to deal with anyways, why give him more?

You expressed my views in ways I never thought possible, good job!

The art just scares me, what with the person's head and all.

Uhhh...not impressed really, I NEED to see the whole set, and how it works togther.

As of right now:
Flavor: 9/10 :D
Art Work: 7/10
Power: 4/10

All of this is subject to huge changes as time goes on.

And just to compare:
Mirrodon:
Flavor: 6/10
Art Work: 3/10
Power: 4/10, to high.

Kamigawa:
Flavor: 7/10
Art Work: 8/10
Power: 3/10

These are just the first sets.

Remember, Mirroden was the set that was the problem it was the block:

Basically the only thing Mirrodon had was Sylvan Scring, and well Tooth and Nail, which was pretty much it.

Darksteel was the broken one, Arcbound Ravager, Darksteel Collosus, Sundering Titan, Indestrutable Artifact land, indesdructable in general, Skullclamp.

See my point?

Affinity was powerfull, but without Darksteel Mirrodon would have been fairly weak, only contributing a very weak Tooth and Nail, and a very weak Affinity to the enviroment, but when Darksteel came along, it knocked, Goblins, and Slide, and other stuff out of T2, allthough slide did make a quick comeback, by the time Fifth Dawn was out Onslaught block wasn't even conisdered being played, except for Astral Slide which stopped TaN, and the very powerfull Affinity decks, not to mention it could handle Skullclamp better then the rest.

Mirrodon as a whole wasn't that powerfull, Darksteel would get a 10/10, its really hard to rate that block, so I did it by set.

Oh yah, I forgot you were only talking about the first set. Even if I had remembered, all of the Mirrodin block has just kind of run together in my mind.

Time for prerelease recap!

I went in, got my Gleancrawler (which looks great in real life), and after maybe half an hour was ready to go. (They had a scheduling problem for my flight.)

When I was handed my packs and opened them, one thing that I noticed was that the tourney pack had new organization: Commons-Uncommons-Rares-Lands. I enjoyed this; it allowed me to wait for the rares with anticipation, and I was not disappointed. The Pro Tour Trading Card? Meh.

First off, know that limited in Ravnica is a LOT different than anything you've experienced before. Of course, there are the guilds, but there are actually a lot more monocolored cards than the previews would have you believe. I ended up sorting my cards into 9 separate piles. This makes choosing very difficult. I found this out when I hadn't even chosen a color combo when the judge called 5 minutes till end of deck construction. (Of course, I had also been marveling on the art and flavor, all of which is superb.) I decided on red/white (Boros) because I liked that combo the best, and had a nice array of cards. I also splashed green for a Selesnya Guildmage. (Remember him from the previews? He's part of a cycle of Hybrid Uncommon creatures.)

Things looked good when I pulled a red/white duel land out of the basic land box... someone had thought it was a mountain and sorted it into that communal pile! Of course, I didn't play it... :shifty: So now I have 2 of the new duel lands.

In my first matchup, I spent the first few minutes putting together the rest of my deck, which my opponent fortunately didn't mind. As it turned out, he too was playing Boros. And I got my first taste of Ravnica...

Playing Ravnica: City of Guilds... let's just say it's different. There is VERY little removal in the set. And the power level of the creatures has a huge range, but many of them are excellent. Trying to spoil as little as possible, I found that a 2-mana 1/3 Unblockable and a 2-mana 2/2 "All other creatures you control get +0/+1" at common were actually not that good in the format compared to the other creatures running around, some of them fun (we've finally gotten bigger than 13 power or toughness), some of them efficient (you've already seen things like Watchwolf, Selesnya Guildmage, etc.), and some of them both (I'm trying not to spoil anything.. let's just say a red/white creature with an awesome life-gain ability). As for the spells, they were also unusual yet powerful. I found myself using Rally the Righteous a lot, and too good effect, and got hit by Convoke a lot. Transmute didn't see much play, understandably considering this is Limited. Dredge was fantastic on Golgari creatures.

I won't give you a whole run-down of the tourney, but I will say I went 2 wins, a draw, and a loss at the very end, which angered me a bit as it put me out of the prize running. But still, I left happy: Ravnica has exceeded my expectations. I hate to say this, but I think that the Ravnica Block may be better than Invasion Block. There, I said it.

Ravnica: City of Guilds

Art: Fantastic. The stuff they've shown us isn't just the best stuff from the set so we'll buy it, it's all like that.

Flavor: A small sampling: "The words came to the sorcerer's lips but refused to budge any further." "Ravnica's laws protect not its citizens but its industry. Aging equipment is destroyed rather than restored, to bring more money into the factories' coffers." "A few arrows aren't enough to pierce your faith, soldier. You'll be back on the battlefield before dawn." A different style than Kamigawa (whose flavour I loved), but still a good one.

Card Design: Gold Cards look STUPENDOUS with the post-Eighth card-design. Any doubts you still had about it compared to the old card design should now be gone.

Guilds/Mechanics: All of them play very well together, this was clearly well thought-out. It's not going to be a rock/paper/scissors metagame this time around. Also, guilds are fun!

Power: It's a powerful set, but in a quite different way to what you're used to. Clearly, the all-star design team intended this to be a powerful set, and it feels that way!

In conclusion: I'm finally going to jump back into constructed with Ravnica. I thought Invasion couldn't be trumped... Perhaps, finally, I have been proven wrong.

Thanks for that amazing report Chalocks! Ravnica does sound great, and all the little extra tidbits you added in just made it even better! So... what rares did you get? :shifty: Just put a spoiler in front of it so Goblin isnt mad. :3nod:

As do I, but seriuosly seeing it in a PM is better, you can ask him questions and other stuff too and get more personal resonses. It'll be better then a PM.

And, we're getting of topic here.
