I know there is a thread, but that was a different time, and its being spammed up, now that we know the full force of the storm, what it did and everything I want to create a thread. DO NOT SPAM UP! I'll give a breif history of the storm here: August 25th, 2005 Katrina approaches the Eastern shore of Florida, people don't bother prepareing, the storm is more of a second thought to most people, it sprang up out of nowwhere and would do minimal damage. The biggest threat rain. 9 people die, unfourtantly this wouldn't be the first time the storm would be underestimated. ![]() New orleans in the dark green, at this point Katrina was expected to make landfall on the forida panhandle with winds of that of a modertly storng cat 2 storm. August 26th, 2005 Katrina Makes her first landfall killing 9 people, and leaving a fairly worse then expected clean-up. Katrina enters the gulf, metorlogist expecting a strengthing storm to make landfall in florida. August 27th, 2005 Literlly over night the storm strengthens to unprecidented strengths, its now apparant that the storm will miss Florida and will make a hit possible near the alabama-mississippi border. People start fleeing from what could be a very very powerfull storm, maybe even the most powerful atlantic storm ever recorded. Every minute people wait for the storm to turn north, but it dosen't. August 28th, 2005 People wake up to one of the most scariest things one could imagine, first this. ![]() Then this, 175 mph, and its eyes on New Orelans. Worst. Case. Scenario. People leave the city by tens of thousands, mayor saying this storm is the storm they new would come but never hoped it would be in their life time. As night comes people prepare for the worst, the superdome is used as a shelter. August 29th, 2005, 9:02am ![]() The storm makes landfall on the Mississippi coast with winds of 135mph still extremely powerful, with a storm suge of 25 feet. No one knows yet how bad it is. The storm is bad, but we really won't know how bad it really is. The next day many of us wake up, go to school work, and come back to somehting horrific indeed. New Orleans is under water, 80% covered, people are just walking around, lost and confused, it is the worst natural disaster in US history. Today we are just getting an idea of the full extent of this storm. -1,000's could be dead -1,000,000 people without power -10's of billions of dollars of damage -An estimated 50,000 people are still in New Orleans -Martial Law has been initiated. -The Red Cross is amassing the larget effort in their history. -Superdome is being evacuated, refugees being sent here. Images of destruction: Here |

There are people from the affected areas crowding into makeshift shelters, especially at the Lamar Dixion Expo center in Gonzales. There have been many people moved from the superdome to other places. There is a lot of crime going on too. People are stealing gas, and at the makeshift Nickeles University shelter, there have already been 2 shootings and 50 rapes. People who stayed in the seriously effected areas are looting anything they can get their hands on. In a certain area, to quote a radio announcement, "Anything of value that can be stolen is already gone." People are assholes. |

Its bad enough to have such a horrible natural disatser, but when people take advantage of the chaos and death, it truely is a horrible event. |

I'd steal too, I can't believe I just said that, I would though, seriously who's going to stop me? No one would miss it anyways, I'd steal the essentials and stuff first. THe other stuff though, yeah that stuff is really really really bad. |

I could understand maybe a few things, but shooting and rape? What is wrong with these people? A hurricane comes and they embrace the anarchy that follows it in its devastating wake. |

You got to remember, and this may sound kinda discrimintory but the people who were left behind in New Orleans were the low lifes, people who couldn't get out, poor people, criminals in particular. THeir pissed off, and bored. Yes, I havn't heard of raping and stuff outside of New Orleans though. People are killing each other though, but that could just be over the few rescources left in that town. |

It does sound bad, but it is true. I was watching CNN, and just all the images they showed were so horrible. I looked like a third world country. They also said all the refugees that went up to Baton Rouge were starting to cause trouble. Be careful E-mortal. |

I'm not that safe. There is a shelter within a few miles of my house, so there are people around. |

People are looting now. They say they take the shoes because they are cutting themselves when they walk... but doesn't everyone have shoes before hand? Food, is understandable, but taking everything?

This morning they said an 8 mile long convoy of law enforcements went into the city, and it's still barely making a dent in the problem... I'm just gald I'm in USAF, otherwise I'd be paying $3.00 a gallon to drive an hour and a half one way to college... |

Luckily the storm wasn't as bad here as we though it'd be... In that second picture you can't even see the ground where I live... Is WotC down?

Well thats good that you escaped the main wave of destruction.
It oppened for me. And I dont want to be nit-picky, but this is a thread that Goblinhunter specifically wants to keep spam out of, so lets try and keep off topic comments to other threads.

The thing I hate most about all these storms this time of the year, is the media... They overdo everything... And how many times do we need to see the same guy with a mike standing out side in the rain talking about the tree behind him blowing in the wind... |

Oh I know. It would be nice to have a media company that just shows the truth, no matter how harsh or unertaining it would be.
And sorry to be a hypocrite of my own words, but I feel I must atleast somment one more time. I thought you were talking about the entire mtg site, not just WotC, which was down for me too. Sorry for any confusion. |
