http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do?displayContent=197920&page=1&ESRC=dod.nl Check out the video. The F-16s Wax the F-15s.. I saw something like this realtime. When I lived in Vermont, the ANG had wargames with the reguular AF.. The ANG Flew F-16Cs and the AF had F-15Cs... They engage right over the house I lived in.. Time after time, the Falcons PWNED the Eagles. It was like watching a moviebut realtime. Jeff and I pulled out lawn chairs, reclined back and watched the show. Edited by Yellow 85, Sep 1 2009, 07:12.

I'm not surprised. The Eagle was meant to be an interceptor, the last of the Cold War. The Falcon is a lightweight, agile, multirole plane that excels as a dogfighter. The two are not the same thing. I imagine you'd see similar results if you were to pair a Tomcat against a Hornet. |

Obviously when it gets to the merge the Viper will win. Not always, but most of the time. But, it also depends on the pilot. Trent, it was designed as an Air Superiority Fighter, not an interceptor. The first built for that sole purpose since the F-86. But obviously something had to replace the 106 and the F-15 was a prime choice. You might not see the same results between a Hornet and a Tomcat. Often (not sure of the date), Tomcats at NAS Oceana and Eagles from the 1st FW at Langley would mix it up. The Tomcats ALWAYS won. And those were F-14As with the TF30 engines. Since during the late '70s and early '80s, USAF, USN, and USMC pilots and aviators fought against real MiGs at military exercises (Red Eagles by Steve Davies, read it, great book) along with the A-4, F-5, and eventually F-16 aggressors, a Tomcat pilot, especially say, 'Hoser' or 'Hawk' or any other Tomcat pilot I mention could and most likely would be able to out do a Hornet, whose not much differnet in the manuevering world than a Viper. Maybe not in an F-14A, since those TF30 engines had minds of their own, but in an F-14D with the F110 (I think that's there designation) engines, it's over. Besides, the Hornet would run out of gas halfway through the dogfight anyway. GG, you said those were Vermont F-16s. There's a good chance the Eagles were from the Massachusetts ANG's 102nd Fighter Wing. They're the only F-15s in New England. But, in anycase, none of this matters becuase the F-15 is the one with the 104-0 Kill Ratio :P Edited by Blue 15, Sep 1 2009, 09:37.

No, I didn't say they were Vermont F-16c. I said that I watched them 12 years ago. |

I have this movie, it's great. "Fighter Plot: Operation Red Flag." This is the international air war game at Nelis. Here's a link to the whole movie, it's only about 45 minutes. Red Flag |

8 weeks! It's hard to believe that November is only weeks away. You're in for a great adventure, Max. Best of luck to you! The movie is cool, it must make you excited at the thought of what the future holds. |

I just can't wait to actually be working for the USAF, I'm sick of my civilian job right now....never work for wal-mart :splat: Anyways, the aggressor squadron in this documentary is one of my dream assignments. They now actually have F-15s painted as Sukhois, too! |

Being an aggressor would be AWESOME! I'd love a chance to mix it up with Indian Su-30MKIs or Brazilian F-5Ms in a pretty desert camo'd F-15C at Red Flag or better yet Red Flag Alaska. Well, minus the fact that those F-15s and F-16s have extremely high airframe hours, like the Blue's Hornets and Thunderbird's Vipers. |

IMO, any high profile plane such as those you mention will have the best of care. I would assume that those planes go through an even more rigorous process than the AF fire trucks. The trucks we use are on a maintenance schedule where they are disassembled and rebuilt to factory specs with new parts down at an AF base in TX. If that sort of plan is in place for them, those planes would be well maintained. |

If you'll recall a few years ago I went to Robins AFB, GA. Half of that base is a maintenance facility where C-5s, C-17s, C-130s, and F-15s go for scheduled maintenance. They are completely torn apart an rebuilt then tested. If reliability is what your worried about, the military is currently in a transition period. The Army is in the process of implementing Six Sigma into their operations and I would assume the Air Force will be doing the same in the near future. This will greatly improve the overall quality of rebuilt aircraft. |
