PHILADELPHIA -- There was no mistaking this chant was supportive. Walter Thurmond Jersey . Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves to record his second shutout in three games and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 5-0 on Thursday night for their fourth straight win. Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Scott Hartnell, Jaromir Jagr and Eric Wellwood scored for the Flyers. Bryzgalov has finally played like the goalie the Flyers expected when they gave him a $51 million, nine-year contract. After struggling much of the season, hes 7-2 with a 2.10 goals-against average while making 10 straight starts. Fans who booed him just last month at the Wells Fargo Center chanted "Bryz! Bryz! Bryz!" in the third period. "Its very nice and very kind from them," Bryzgalov said. "From hating to love in one step and the same in the other direction." In a 5-4 win at Winnipeg on Feb. 21, Jets fans derisively chanted Bryzgalovs name. He joked afterward that they were cheering for him, though some radio talk show-hosts in Philadelphia criticized Bryzgalov for misunderstanding the crowds intention. "I thought we were in Winnipeg," Hartnell said with a smile. "We always were behind Bryz in our dressing room. Hes obviously winning some fans now. His confidence is growing and I dont think weve seen the best of Bryz yet." The victory moved the Flyers within two points of fourth-place Pittsburgh in the Eastern Conference. The Southeast Division-leading Panthers, seeking their first playoff berth since 2000, entered with a two-point lead over Winnipeg, which was eighth in the conference. "This is a tough one to take," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "Composure is the biggest issue for us right now. We have veterans here that need to start playing 60 minutes." The Flyers, already missing Chris Pronger for the season, played without defencemen Kimmo Timonen, Andrej Meszaros and Pavel Kubina. Bryzgalov was all the defence Philadelphia needed. He earned his fourth shutout of the season, and the 27th of his career. "Hes been unbelievable," Jagr said. "If he plays like this, its great for us." Schenn gave the Flyers a rare 1-0 lead midway through the first period when he scored on the power play. Claude Giroux slid the puck across the ice from the left face-off circle to Schenn, who was in the right circle. The puck skipped by Hartnell, who whiffed on a shot attempt. Schenn then one-timed it past Jose Theodore as the Flyers scored first for just the second time in 12 games. Read put the Flyers up 2-0 early in the second period with his rookie-leading 19th goal of the season. Danny Briere, looking for his first goal in two months, got two solid shots at Theodore, and Read poked in the rebound off the second one. Briere hasnt scored a goal in 21 games since Jan. 7. Briere nearly snapped his drought later in the period when he backhanded a shot toward an open net, but defenceman Jason Garrison slid across the crease and made the save. "I think Im retiring," Briere joked. Hartnell scored a breakaway goal to make it 3-0 later in the second. Hartnell stole a pass in Philadelphias zone, outskated two trailing Panthers and snapped a wrist shot past Theodore. Hartnell registered his 60th point, tying his career best. He improved his career high in goals to 32. Jagrs power-play goal made it 4-0 in the third. He fired a wicked slap shot through a screen for his 18th goal. The 40-year-old forward was doubtful after leaving the previous game with a hip injury, but was able to play for injury-depleted Philadelphia. Flyers forward Jakub Voracek sat out after getting flattened by a hard check by Detroits Niklas Kronwall two nights earlier. "We made too many mistakes. You do that, and youre going to lose on any night against anyone," Panthers defenceman Brian Campbell said. "We have to keep battling. We have to keep finding some chances any way we can. Any good team in this league is going to take advantage against us, if we keep playing like this." Notes: All three coaches on Floridas bench have Flyers ties. Dineen and assistant Gord Murphy played for Philadelphia. Assistant Craig Ramsay was the Flyers head coach in 2000-01. ... Panthers F Kris Versteeg missed his fifth straight game. Versteeg played 27 games for the Flyers last year. ... Florida fell behind 2-0 for the six of their last seven games. ... The Flyers have won five straight and six of their last seven games against the Panthers. Brian Dawkins Jersey . According to several reports, the quarterback has asked for a trade or his release from the team. The reports state Pryor strongly wants to be a starter, and that wont happen in Oakland. Nelson Agholor Jersey . One night after scoring 43 points in a 100-96 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, James sat out the game with back spasms and the Heat lost for the first time in their three games without him this season. http://www.theeaglesshoponline.com/Youth-Jaylen-Watkins-Eagles-Jersey/ .The coach of the Calgary Flames had spent the better part of 2 1-2 hours watching his team play spoiler to the New Jersey Devils playoff hopes, winning a 1-0 game at the Prudential Center on April 7.HOUSTON -- The Texas Rangers put left-handers Matt Harrison and Martin Perez on the disabled list Wednesday, and could be without both starters for an extended period. General manager Jon Daniels said that Harrison was diagnosed with significant nerve irritation in his vertebrae. He will have an injection Friday in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms before considering other options, including surgery. Harrison, who made only two starts last season before two operations on a herniated disk in his lower back, came out in the second inning of his start Tuesday night at Houston. Daniels said the pitcher had a tingling sensation down his left leg, similar to what he experienced before having surgery last year. Perez has a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. He could have an injection and rehab that could keep him out three months, or possibly have Tommy John surgery and miss a year. Right-hander Nick Tepesch was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock for his scheduled start Wednesday night against Houston. The Rangers also purchased the contracts of right-handers Scott Baker and Miles Mikolas from Round Rock, and designated right-hander Justin Germano for assignment. Tepesch was starting in place of Yu Darvish, who threw 126 pitches in his near no-hitter Friday night. The Japanese ace was given extended rest and is set to start Friday at home against Toronto. When Tepesch took the mound against the Astros, he became the 22nd different player to pitch for the Rangers this season and the 38th player overall. Both are the most in the majors. Texas has 13 players on the disabled list. Among the other hurt Rangers is left-handed starter Derek Holland, who is rehabbing from off-season left knee surgery after being tripped by his dog on the stairs in his home. Holland, who has been throwing live batting practice at the Rangeers complex in Arizona, is scheduled to be in Arlington this weekend for an evaluation and to throw for Rangers coaches. Kiko Alonso Eagles Jersey. He is still several weeks away from a possible return. Perez allowed six runs and 14 runners (nine hits, four walks and a hit batter) in 3 2-3 innings of an 8-3 loss to Boston on Saturday night, and reported discomfort in his elbow the following day. Since the end of his 26-inning scoreless streak over three games, Perez (4-3) has given up 19 runs over 13 1-3 innings in his past three games. Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister diagnosed the partial tear for Perez. Dr. James Andrews also reviewed the MRI and agreed that was the issue. Harrison was examined Wednesday by Dr. Drew Dossett, who did the two operations last year. Daniels said there was no evidence of disk herniation, but that the spondylolisthesis Harrison is now experiencing was considered a possible risk after the operations -- "If it didnt work as you would hope, this would be the outcome. Unfortunately, thats come to pass," the GM said. The options for Harrison included rehab and to live with the problem or have surgery that Daniels described as spinal fusion. Daniels said players have returned to the major leagues after have such fusions, but there are no guarantees. "Its more involved surgery and changes of coming back are lesser than some of the more traditional baseball surgeries," Daniels said. "If he did opt to have surgery, he would be out for the year with a chance to rehab and come in and compete in spring training." Infielder Donnie Murphy (neck strain) and left-hander Joe Saunders (left ankle) are scheduled to begin injury rehabilitation assignments with Round Rock on Thursday night. It will be the first rehab game for Murphy and the third for Saunders, who made only his first start of the season for the Rangers. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' ' |
