No problem. You won't regret it. Oh, I forgot to ask, where did you get the graphic for your signature, Tom? I love the animation of the SP rock group.

Unless they really turn this around, the show is dead to me.

The art is awesome and the music is fantastic. But good grief. The humor is down right stupid and crass. The third episode was terrible.

Spoiler (kinda)
The first half was so stupidly cliche'. I mean, the whole 'we're mad at each other, in the end we learn a lesson about teamwork!' is so heavily overdone, it just wasn't enjoyable. The second half was not only rushed, but the whole analogy of D-day to masturbation was both offensive and sickening. I'm sorry, this show is a failure in my book. Its not being edgy, its just gross.

Spoiler over.

I've heard that the director of FLCL is directing a few episodes soon, so i'll keep watching, if anything for the art. But neither episode 2 or 3 made me laugh.

Disappointed. :grumpfaith:

I'm going to respectfully disagree. I found this episode hilarious and I think the show is just getting better. The point is to be crass and vulgar as a direct inversion of the moe trend. The market is oversaturated with the stuff and anything less than the other extreme is just not going to send the message clearly.

Spoiler: click to toggle

I also found the second segment funny. It wasn't as good as the first one, but it was still an enjoyable episode.

I agree with Gen200. You can't look away from this show, there is just so much going on, and I bet its really gonna be big with Americans, Ive seen more English in this Anime then Ive ever seen in any anime. I love how they change their outfits in every episode but they need to increase the action a little more. The voice acting is pretty cute.
Ive heard someone describe the show as a big middle finger to weaboos (over enthusiastic anime fans that are way too serious about anime). I showed a friend and he thought it looked stupid. I had to laugh because its deliberately trying to offend the sensibilities of those who insist on a "moe trend" as Gen put it. He's an anime snob anyways so I'm not too surprised he doesn't want to give it a chance.

I didnt know Episode 3 came out yet!

Well here is the Episode 3 for anyone who wants to see em. Its in three parts for some reason this time.

Well, I just watched episodes 1 and 2 moments ago (sorry, no time for 3 yet), and I'm really kind of...mixed.

My initial thoughts are that the animation is amazing. It's like a feast for the eyes with all the nonstop craziness of it. They just make this show so interesting to look at. I'm really impressed by it's fluid style. Much like Starlogic, I was also very much digging the music. It feels very different from conventional anime flair.

Aside from that, I'm not impressed with too much else. There's definitely some funny moments and gags, which may keep me watching at least a few more episodes to give it more of a chance. But overall I think the scripting is pretty weak. It feels like sometimes they're trying too hard, and other times they're not trying hard enough. I don't like when something is obscene for the sake of being obscene (i.e. - Family Guy). Then it just comes off as juvenile. I mean, I understand wanting to be crass, but there's no context to it. Also, Panty and Stocking feel very one dimensional to me. I realize this is the type of the show where character growth isn't a concern, but...even still, personality-wise, they're kind of complete jerks. It's hard to get behind characters that don't seem to have any redeeming qualities to them at all.

So anyway, I'm kind of with Starlogic on this one. I'll keep watching a few more to see how things develop, but so far it's not really what I was hoping for, outside of the animation and music.

Hmm. Ive finished watching episode 3. I have to agree that the plots are getting a little weak, but its hard to tell with all the activity going on and the silly jokes. I guess on repeated viewings you can find more stuff to pick at. The music is really awesome, I think we can all agree. On the second half of episode 3, there is LOTS of sexual humor. It can get pretty gross but I think the funny dialouge kept me laughing. Yeah, they probably are trying too hard, I guess it has more style than substance but I'm willing to stick it out to see what else they come up with. I'm not really sure they want characters that have "redeeming qualities", the audience that they are targeting probably just wants off the wall nonsensical stuff that Adult Swim fans would consider par for the course. You have to admit though, they are rather inventive with their crassness, a lot of stuff took me aback.

Here's hoping the joyride gets better and has something more compelling than just dicking around with their absurd version of daily minutia.

Well, I tried getting my friend interested, but he thinks the show is terrible and he claims that alot of the Japanese and American fans are starting to hate it, I dont know if thats true (clue me in if it is). Even if so, it makes me like it even more, Id probably hate it if it got too popular!

So to all the haters out there:

Anyway, here is Episode 4! Starlogic is right in that this is a funny one, Stocking tries to lose weight and even wears a cute hoodie sweatsuit!

Interestingly, right now the feelings are mixed, there aren't a lot of people who are all out haters, but there's also not a lot of people who are die-hard fans. From what I've been noticing the majority is pretty indifferent at the moment. We'll see what happens with episode 5.
