I like windy. Windy is good. It's always a good day when it's windy. Childish-sounding motto aside, I would rather like to try that thing. Whatever it is. |

It's nothing interesting, but it's something that pissed me off & made me angry all day long yesterday. I was in my college radio doing my Wednesday Morning Break Time Slot. A producer says there's this song that everyone had been requesting all day & I HAD to play it. It was "Indigeridoo" by Ricky Wong... it was utter bull***(Listen here & you'll agree with me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seXcRfKkP0Q). If it wasn't for that song I would have been able to end the last song I had played (which was The Royal We - Silversun Pickups), I went to my producers & said that they just told me to put it on to piss me off. They denied that, but I still didn't believe them. I stated "Next time, leave the requests to other people because that's not what I do". As I want to be in Radio as a career, I take it way more seriously then the other people & I don't like people screwing with my head over this stuff. It made me realise how RESTRICTIVE broadcasting really is... I don't want to be in my dream job of being a Radio Broadcaster & DJ to play stuff I don't like. I feel that Radio should realise it's not just about what PEOPLE want, they have to realise the people BEHIND THE DESK have to be able to sit there for a few hours a week or even everyday playing stuff... if they're playing stuff they generally don't like & it makes them feel uncomfortable... it's just stupid & unfair to them. |

*raises hand* The one I tried cost two bucks. It lasts for less than a minute and really just feels like being out and about on a windy day except a bit more-so. The anticipation is the best part of it, by far, but the final payoff isn't spectacular. Plus once you've done it once, the anticipation won't be there anymore. If I wanted my hair to blow all over the place, I could do that for free! |

I don't know about "utter bull****". The tune is kinda catchy, and it has a novelty-song feel to it...
While I certainly sympathize, I think that you need to remember that it's the *radio station* that owns the equipment that you broadcast on. As such, your producers (who represent the interests of said radio station) are the ones in charge and can, legally, make you play pretty much whatever they please. (As long as it doesn't violate British broadcasting laws of course, one presumes...)
Wow! You *are* an idealist, aren't you?! Again, I sympathize; but unless you decide to start your own radio station, you need to realize that your producers and their bosses aren't necessarily in radio because they want to bring great music to a discriminating audience. They're in it because they want a mass audience that will (presumably) bring in some ad revenue or (as it's a college station) support from students and alumni. (I'm also assuming that it's used to teach Communications/Media students. That's what our two college stations are for.) Also; If you think that *your* bosses are restrictive, then you've obviously never worked for an American *commercial* radio station! Our stations are *extremely* limiting (even verging on censorship) as to what our DJs can play or say on air. (Except, of course, pundits/shock-jocks like Limbaugh, Beck, etc. They can get away with pretty much *ANYTHING* because they say what their audience wants to hear, no matter *how* obnoxious/loony it sounds and it brings in the $$$... <_< ) |

As much as I wanna say "oh it's pointless, why would they make such a thing?" I think I want to try it too, heh. Just to see how in the world it works and such. My curiosity can get the better of me sometimes.
Although apparently it isn't all that spectacular, eh Doc? Somehow that's what I expected it to end up being. Well, we'll see what happens next time I stop by the mall
I guess if performed well that song could be catchy for novelty sake, like reynard said, but that was rather......yipes . A little too cheesy for my tastes. The lyrics make it sound like something out of a pre-school cartoon show. Or maybe I'm just being biased, because I LOVE "The Royal We" from The Silversun Pickups . Whatever the case, I much prefer your song choice. I feel very torn here, I must admit. On one hand, I agree that radio should be more diverse and introduce people to some new music and honest creativity. Plus I probably would have been pretty annoyed if I was in your situation too. At the same time, what reynard says is very true and was summed up pretty well. That's the way radio broadcasting works oftentimes. It's either about large, general public demand or for the sake of manipulating public demand to make money across record sales and ad revenue. Censorship is king, things are very strict, and the owner's grip very tight. That's where the music industry and the comics industry are pretty comparable. Newspaper comics are pretty formulaic and stale, plus there's no way to break into the field unless you conform and give up a lot of creative control. When you think about it, the same can be said for the music/ radio industry. But those who wish to have an uncensored outlet for their creativity have that thanks to the internet. Webcomics have now become a legitimate career path for many people. It works the same way for music, with bands getting their music out their through myspace and things like that. Plus look at what the traditional idea of radio has become or ever has the potential to become thanks to the internet. Plus satellite radio, of course. Is it right the way the industry works? Probably not. But there are other outlets out there. Unfortunately I think you just have to accept in a position like that, you don't and will never have the power you'd like. That doesn't meant that power isn't out there somewhere for you to seize. Who knows, we could be on our way to a new Renaissance in this sort of thing ![]() Well, in a round-about way, I guess my main point is: yeah, that sucks! Don't let it discourage you too much though. I think this song would be very fitting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyVeQaFGOGo |

Here's something I found hilarious, which goes to demonstrate my strange sense of humor: 1) Go here: http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php -- It's a demo of AT&T's text-to-speech. You can use it to make computer talking STUFF and is fun. But read on... 2) Set the voice to Mike. 3) Enter this text: "I have a shopping cart!" 4) Laugh at the hilarious way it pronounces it. ...

Well that is weird ![]() The only thing this forum fails at is failing!
Bioshock always intrigued me, in that time when I didn't own a XBox 360. Then when it came out for the PS3 I downloaded the demo. I thought the game was gorgeous looking, but I was having such a hard time with the controls. Then again, I'm not crazy about the PS3 controller for first person shooters anyway. Maybe I should try the 360 demo now that I actually have one. Well, hope you enjoy it

OH! Perhaps I should note as interesting happening that I didn't have to go to work today. It's quite literally been snowing all day, and still going even now (9:30 at night). It actually hadn't even started snowing before I called out of work  But where I work, if we're going to go out sick or anything like that, we have to call two hours before we're suppose to be in. Judging from the reports, in two hours, the snow would have been falling (and it did). My boss was very cool about it though. She essentially gave us all the nod yesterday to call out today anyway. There's A LOT of snow out there, but to me it doesn't seem like it was as bad as it was made out to be. Still nothing you could have driven in though. So I got an extra day to work on AIAC stuff. I mostly just finished Friday's strip and completely sketched out next Tuesday's strip (which I thought was going to be A LOT harder to draw than it actually was). I'm happy though, because not only did I get to finish coloring a picture of Hope for aiacrowd.com's revamped characters page, but I also got to make her profile image for said page, thereby creating a template for the other characters as well. I think these are going to look so much better than what's there now. Maybe I'll use this Hope one as next week's vote incentive, so everyone can get a preview of what they're going to look like. Making these is a special project of mine, and one of the last steps that would prep me for converting aiacrowd.com to a ComicPress website. You know, considering the way the snow's going, I'm wondering if I'll be able to make it into work tomorrow? I do know I need to wake up early to get a bunch of snow shoveling done. At least my boss said I could come in late tomorrow if it was necessary. (I have a VERY awesome boss, yes). I guess it'll all depend how clear the roads are. Northeast blizzards! |

I found the game allright, but the best part i see in it is the Story. The story is very awesome, and you should play it mostly for the fun and story. now, for Bioshock 2, i played it, and i really loved it. SPOLIERallthough if in Bioshock 1 you dident like the fact being a Big Daddy, then you probably wont like the gameSPOLIER In Bioshock 2 they also exceled in Story and Fun

Heh, 'round here they don't even get exclamation points. It's been like that since mid-December. I was at UIowa in 1991 when to my surprise, having mused about how many people had to get shot to get a day off, I learned the answer was six. |

You may have already saw this on Tiwtter, but I figured I might as well embarrass myself here too: Today I ended up going to work and being there for 7 hours before I realized I was wearing two different pairs of shoes on my feet http://img154.yfrog.com/i/944y.jpg/ I honestly never looked down at them all day, and if I did I clearly wasn't paying much attention. I swear I didn't notice them feeling different from each other either. However, once I KNEW they were different pairs, I couldn't NOT feel a difference between them. It was weird. I think this happened because my shoes got kind of thrown around in the closet and I didn't bother putting them back in order before getting ready to leave the house today. Obviously I was not awake at all this morning  Thank goodness all my "office" shoes are black or this would have looked REALLY weird. |

We were at the mall today by the pet store, and somebody accidentally bumped into me while they were walking by. They bumped me just so that my hat fell off, then all the dogs in the cages started barking like crazy at me. It was really embarrassing Hope did bark back at them though, in retaliation *giggle*
