I welcome you all to this Random General Interest Topic! You can post true things that have happened, random facts (true or false for the lulz) or anything you really want to that can brighten up our days. Here's a true one from me: I've become friends with Bret Hart on Facebook... the best there is, the best there was & the best there ever will be is friends with ME? Yeah... even I can't believe it! Here's another: I was watching a Pink Floyd live video of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on Youtube. Some random idiot said "This band really needs dancers, they should go see a Madonna show... she'd put them in their place". The following two replies were "You have no taste in music whatsoever" & "You don't know what kind of music & show Floyd puts on. They don't need dancers". I haven't laughed so much at a Youtube comment in ages... this one took the biscuit  |

Well, I was about to shut down the computer and go to sleep after watching a DVD, but I like this one! I'm chiming in right now! You know, I've never heard the phrase "took the biscuit" before. I'm remembering that one How many friends does Bret Hart have, BTW? Anyway, here's a true story: "Weird Al" Yankovic has always been a hero of mine, ever since I was in the 4th grade. I grew up listening to him and he's still one of my very favorites. One night a couple years ago, my friends and I were going to one of his concerts at this huge resort place we have in the area (fast forward to today, and I now work there). We got their early and planned to get some dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant they have inside. After we were finished eating and walking out the tiny entranceway, a man with long, curly hair walked right by me. We were practically shoulder to shoulder. I literally did a cartoon double-take as this happened, and after he had passed it finally hit me............that was "Weird Al!" My friend swears that he accidentally shoulder checked him as he was walking by . I guess he was just placing an order for later or something, because after not too long he was heading back out (yes, I waited outside for him, I admit it. Fanboy.). He was in a big rush, since it was almost showtime, so I couldn't really talk to him. But I at least got to say hi and wish him a good show. Very cool moment for me

The reason for you not hearing it, is that you haven't lived in the UK! Nuff said At this time of writing: 4,998... two off the amount allowed for a personal profile O.O I'm one of the lucky 5,000 ![]() Awesome seeing Weird Al before the show, Tom. I need to see Myles Kennedy personally... that would be the best thing ever for me. Luckily I can talk to him via Myspace which is damn good

Sometimes when I go for walks, a whole string of random cats will just sort of follow me around. They're drawn to me, I guess. I'd say it's annoying, but.....they're so cute!

I saw a hawk (don't know what kind) as I was walking home from the grocery store Friday. It was perched on a tree in a park on the Monon Trail Greenway. Probably hunting for the rabbits and mice that populate the area. |

We get those once in a great while around here. They're pretty cool to see in the sky flying. So graceful, yet powerful at the same time. That reminds me of one morning so many months ago. I have a stone wall that surrounds my house (not very tall), and in the backyard there's one spot that has a bit of an opening you can walk through and go into the back woods. Well, on this particular morning, I looked into the backyard, and standing in an almost noble pose in that opening was a orange fox. I was so excited, because I love foxes, but had never seen a real one before, let alone in my own yard! It stood there for a few moments, then turned back into the woods. Sadly, it's never come back since then

Yeah, a couple of Winters ago I couldn't sleep (this was around 2 AM) and the temperature was relatively warm (lower-50s, rather unusual) so I took a walk on the above-mentioned Greenway (can't do it anymore; they've really cracked down on after-dark Park use, unfortunately. Warning for first offense, $50 fine thereafter! ) and I was crossing 25th street when a fox sauntered across my path and then disappeared into the treeline. I swear I could have reached out and touched it if I'd wanted to when it was at it's closest point to me! I'm not particularly religious, but the gods certainly smiled upon me that night!

Nice songs! (of course they're of a subject matter I have very strong feelings for ). You do a great jobs with the drums. Are those more bongos than drums though?I wish my church sang more in this style. |

Ah, there we have the one and only benefit of living out here in the sticks. I see hawks all the time. They sit on the roadside mileposts watching for some critter that wasn't paying attention. They don't call it the hawkeye state for nothin'. Hell, people don't even call 'em hawks, they just call 'em red-tails. More impressive are the eagles, though even those are pretty common. Used to be a nest a few miles from my folks' place, in an old dead tree hanging over the river. Like most dead things, it eventually fell down. What *really* amazed me was the "convention" a couple years ago. I swear, I am not exaggerating, there were close to 100 bald eagles gathered around a soccer field, within city limits, sitting on goalposts, perched in the trees around the edge, even just standing in the field in little clusters. Never had any idea they did that. Foxes, well, the American kind are way skittish. Hardly ever see them around, just often enough to know that they're there. I don't think they come into town though. I have seen coyotes in the street in front of my apartment though, twice. They don't stay anyplace very long, they've got the sense to know when it's time to move on. First one hung around for about 3 days, second one decided not to stay, though it did hop up onto my car for a look-around first. I was right on the sidewalk, it stared right at me. People worry about their pets, but I figure as long as they keep putting pet *food* outside, they'll be smart enough to take the easier pickings. Good, sensible critters, the sort I can respect. And then there's the possums. I swear there's something inherently wrong with the marsupial brain, they just act *wrong*. I've had to physically wrestle the little monsters off my porch with a rake at least 3 times. There's just something wrong about any wild animal under 100 lbs that doesn't run off when you hit it with a stick. The one that really *did* impress me was years ago, in college, when I was sailing on the lake near town: an *osprey*, straight out of the sky, prolly going *faster* than terminal velocity, straight into the water. After a fish I assume. Didn't get it, though. I'm sure it was a *big* one.... ![]() Some folks have reported bobcats in the county, at least one confirmed by the FWS, but I haven't seen 'em myself. |

Actually, it IS a Drum, a hand-drum that is. but they all are still drums. for most of the songs I'm playin a Djembe (jim-bay), but actually for one of them (the second or third, i cant remember,) I played a Cajon (ka-hon) bongo. They're still drums, though ;P |

True story: At my local bank, the manager used to have a large photo of a small group of eagles gathered in a tree (similar to this one), eating some small animal that one of them had caught, hanging in his office. I joked that it was the Loan Approval Committee interviewing a potential borrower. He actually took it in good humor... I think...

Reynard's profile says Indianapolis, so it was almost definitely a red-tail. Occasional peregrines in the area too, but they're much smaller and rarer. |

That was a rather stupid way for me to phrase the question, huh? After all, bongos are drums. I should have said "what kind of drum is that?" I'm one of those people where when I hear "drum," I immediately think of a standard drum set. Either way, I got the answer I wanted. That's pretty interesting
Hehehehe, nice. |

Yep, but the speckling in it's belly was the same color as it's body. alphatroll:
I'm inclined to agree. Peregrines tend to be a blue-black color and the speckling on the adults isn't as prominent -- and the bird that I saw was definitely an adult! It was pretty big! |

Can't say I've ever read "Eragon." Granted, I don't get to read anywhere near as much as I wish did. Really I don't know anything about "Eragon." Here's an interesting happening: I was offered a cartooning job. Unfortunately it ended up being those "Now, we can't pay you, but you'll get a lot of exposure" deals <_< I probably shouldn't go into it any further than that, for obvious reasons. It was a bit disappointing though. I can't afford to take on a job that would have to coincide with AIAC unless I'm compensated for it. That's why I can set up a few commissions with people, but I can't do something like that. |

I think I recall one other hawk, occasionally seen in the Midwest, that has particularly prominent speckles but otherwise looks mostly like a red-tail (which, just to clarify, is highly variable and often speckled as well). I think the other one's name said something about its tail too (y'know, for clarification). But it's hardly ever seen around, especially near populated areas. p.s. Why yes, I did read the Brittanica for fun as a kid, why do you ask?

Here's one: When I was in the mall this weekend, they had this little booth that was about the size of two soda machines pushed together. The front had this big clear door that you could open and step into a small chamber. This thing was labeled the "Hurricane Machine." Apparently, you insert the appropriate amount of money, step inside, and (as the side of the machine exclaims) "experience the feeling and power of hurricane winds!" So essentially you pay money, step inside, and have this thing blow 70 mile per hour+ air at you. ........................k Has anybody seen these things? Even better, anyone actually tried it? |
