It has become apparent that the way in which admin have dealt with under performing coaches up to now lacked consistency. In light of that, please take the time to read the following announcement from the admin team: Effective as of the end of the 2016 season, we are pleased to announce that the admin will be introducing AFFL Coaching Performance Evaluations. Performance evaluations enable the admin team to engage coaches in a dialogue about how well the coach is performing his duties and to discuss goals for the coming year. The process we follow has been developed by the admin team and will be implemented annually, whereby all coaches will be subject to this process. A member/s of the admin team will conduct a post-season interview which will consist a series of questions based on the following elements - - the team's overall performance (based on results, team direction, goals set etc) - the coach's overall performance (based on activity levels, official warnings, and/or failure to adhere to the "Official AFFL Rules" and "Basic Coaching Responsibilities"). Based on this process, the admin team will collectively evaluate the responses and provide each coach with a written response. Contained within the written response will be: - Whether the coach will be offered the head coaching position at their club (or another club) the following year; - Whether the coach will be offered a position at a different club ONLY (for this section, we mean people not suitable to run a rebuild, but may be suitable to coach a contender). - Whether the coach is suitable for assistant roles only (people who are good to have around, but shit at coaching). - Whether the coach is unsuitable to hold any official AFFL (kitchen salesman). All determinations are valid for 12 months. Upon the completion of the review, successful candidates will be offered a 12 month "contract". Essentially, most coaches will be on a 12 month rolling contract. This process has been identified to; - improve overall coaching performance - document areas of improvement - formalise the process of managing under-performing coaches. Admin will only "sack" a coach mid-season in exceptional circumstances, but the end of season review will most likely result in greater movements in head coaching roles. "Let's make AFFL great again!!!" |

I hope that by implementing these performance reviews that it means there will be coaches ready to step in. Because based on this season alone, 3-4 coaches might be struggling to be offered a new coaching contract. |

Just on this contract business though, ladder leaders Gold Coast are determined to avoid the inevitable media attention over mastermind coach Colby becoming a free agent. The board have therefore requested AFFL HQ to re-sign Colby to a new, lucrative multi-year deal. The hottest free agent in Australian sports' only contractual demands are as follows; - An artificial mountain to be built in Surfers Paradise bearing the faces of Zach Merrett, Dylan Shiel, Jack Viney and Myself. My face should be carved in solid gold plate - My own 'Veto' vote on any and all admin decisions, including any decisions made to not sack particular coaches. - An AFFL board intervention to compel Lummas to trade me Patrick Cripps. - A weekly and neverending letter from Stoney on my desk 9AM every Monday morning detailing all the things he found most charming about me in that particular week. I look forward to AFFL HQ's response. |

There isn't a tree big enough, to make a piece of paper long enough, for me to convey all the things I like about you. |
