I see the comp becomming very even in a season or two.

North, Hawks and St Kilda are all steadily improving and are currently in the 60s.

Freo and Sydney are a year more advanced in their rebuilds, and are both starting to spit out some top scores - relevant to their average age.

Brisbane I think will push for finals as soon as next year. Long way to go, but sneaking into the 8 is definitely the aim for 2014.

In order for all those teams to go up, some teams have to fall.

While WCE scored a horrific 45 on the weekend, I think they're much better than that.

None of the top 8 sides look like they're sliding any time soon, but who knows. There's a lot of age in some of them (i.e. Doggies).

I reckon there could be a real log jam from 7th to 14th next year.

Then there's GC and Port who between them account for nearly 80% of the first round in the draft. So the odds are both those sides will be on the improve as soon as next year (if not points, certainly value).

This is the healthiest the league has been in quite some time.

I think I'll push for finals next year. Churned out 66 this week and I'll have Walker & Higgins next year which'll hopefully add 8 affl points between them. Factor in a little natural improvement and the rounding out of the 22 by draftees and I reckon I'll go at 75-80 ppg which is enough to at least challenge.

You've got a lot of potential, but need some more big names / elite scorers.

I dont think your predictions are unrealistic though.

I have taken a Ross Lyon approach to my coaching.

Seems to be working a treat.

Walker is for his position but that's where it's at for now :(

Guys like Adams, Smith, Daniher and Witts are good chances at being that while I've got an absolute bunch of speculative punts that are slight chances.

I really do need to nail this draft though. If I can pick up no busts I'll be set in the long run. If I do, it's a major step back.

Stife did really well with Port this year tbh, turned them from a rabble to showing genuine potential, but yeah, if you fuck up your drafting you are fucked.

I feel like everyone's being too nice in this thread now, someone give me shit about Gold Coast or something.

Given he'll take pretty much half of the first round, its hard to see a feasible way where he'd fuck up his drafting.

He's bound, by pure luck, to land at least 3 gems with the plethora of picks he holds.

Trusted the vibes <_<

nah but seriously that's the major change. I've happily overpaid for players I rate which I've not done in the past.

I feel I turned Port into a better list by the end of last year though. I managed to turn the absolute shitstain DTM left into something resembling a fathom of potential - as evidenced by the fact that within 9 months I'd pulled the trigger and got the team to a 95-105 ppg team which couldn't have been done with the original list.

However, the problem was I realised 95-105 ppg wasn't enough to challenge. It just isn't. It'd sit me with the JM/Spud/Esky group. It was either hold on to oldies and mid table or rebuild 6 weeks later. I chose the latter which I'm glad I did. The problem was I sold the oldies for less than I bought them for, so the squad deteriorated big time. I've only just recovered from that.

Stupid decisions etc.

Anyway, cheers. I'd hope with the draft crop being a good SA one I'll be well able to pick the right ones. I've certainly been able to pick the SA busts with a very good record so far, I'd hope. It's just the vics/wa blokes I'm going to struggle with.

Umm, weren't you saying Brad Crouch was a spud who was playing SANFL reserves last year?

Spud (at least to me) is a relative term.

Do I think he's near as good as people say? Nope. Was he good in the SANFL? Average. Do I think he'll be a star? Nope.

Plus, I said South Australian draft talent. Crouch is neither from South Australia nor did he have a 'senior' junior year due to being at the crows.
