Melbourne trade:
F Ray, B Dalziell, D Astbury, Melbourne 3rd Round and Melbourne 5th Round
for
R Tambling, A Walker, T Taylor, North Melbourne 4th Round and North Melbourne 6th Round

What started off as quite a small deal has ended up being quite large in size. We originally started these talks before D2T even had Walker, and as usual it was a pleasure to deal with you mate. No stupid games, and no low-balling, a nice relief.

Melbourne confirm.

Cheers RLL, and North confirm.

Wow, this is a fairly large deal, with a few unknowns about the majority of these players.

Here's my reasoning on each player.

Tambling - HATED giving this guy up, I have a HUGE man crush on him but he was integral to the deal. I think he has almost reached his ceiling as a player, which is probably mid 90's, although I don't think he's had the most impressive of pre-seasons so we'll just wait and see if he can back last year up, but I think he will.

Andrew Walker - haha its funny, there was a big discussion on him in the deal where I got him from Freo, even though I knew I'd most likely on trade him soon after. My thoughts still haven't changed, I think we'll see a fit Walker this year, which will equate to 75-80ppg IMO. Nice pick up for RLL.

Troy Taylor - If he keeps his head screwed on he'll be a cult hero at Richmond. His trial or whatever still hasn't finished so its a bit of a risk in RLL taking him, but I reckon Taylor will get games (perhaps as early as Thursday Night) so the benefits are definetly there in trading for him.

Then the players I receive..........

Farren Ray - What a year he had last year with the Saints, some people think he will decline big time.....but I don't think it'll be as big a decline as some think. At a minimum he will still be 85+ IMO, and still fairly young at 24 years of age as well.

Bradd Dalziell - Just banking on this guy to get somewhere back near his best, and on the wide open spaces of Subi it may just allow the hard running midfielder to get back up into the high 80's-90's scoring. Really keen to see what he can do this year for the Weagles.

David Astbury - Believe it or not.....I pretty much pulled this entire trade just to land this guy. Hardwick has said in a couple of club functions that Astbury will be given every chance to make CHF his own. He looked really good against Hawthorn in his only pre-season game, scoring I think mid 60's in a game where we got absolutely creamed. He would have played the other games but for a bit of a minor ankle injury. He will get games THIS year, and am pretty wrapt to get him.

And then of course the pick upgrades.....RLL's picks obviously will be one of the last in each round, but still, any upgrade here or there is helpful.
Weeeeeee areeeee the Navy Blues, we are the olllddddd daaarkkkkk Navy Blues

Reasoning:

Farren Ray will drop off slightly, mid-high 80's is my assessment. BUT I can't stand him, just an ugly player to watch. Glad he's gone. Brad Dalziell, whilst I really like the look of him, has had a terrible pre-season and even though he still has a massive chance of making it at West Coast, I just didn't want to take that risk. Astbury was the player that this deal was built around. He's going to be given every chance as D2T said, but he wasn't going to make my 22 so I traded for players who would.
Tambling ...... LOVE ..... I've now got him in all three trade games that I'm involved in! Disagree that he's close to his ceiling, could become elite IMO. Andy Walker is one of my personal favourite, and glad to have him back again. If Taylor doesn't get locked up, he'll be a star. Not sure if that'll translate to SC scoring but we'll wait and find out.
Draft picks there to even it out.

Dead even IMO...

Tambling will be a better scorer than Ray in the next few years, whilst Walker should be better than Dalziell.

Troy Taylor has heaps of potential but huge question marks, Astbury I'll admit I don't know a lot about and the draft picks aren't at all significant.

Dalziell will be the factor that determines who wins this deal. Ifr he averages 100 then it`s probably Nth (assuming Ray remains somewhere near his previous scoring).
It`s possible that Nth could have just picked up a free pick upgrade. But it`s also possible that they could lose out big time.
