I'm confused. Isn't stoney all for youth. Vardy's just that. Why'd he trade him out for a mid aged player like Dyson with not much upside? If it was someone like Cleishy, me, or rll doing the deal, yeah, it's a win both ways, but with stoney's team, I can't see it. |

Vardy is 3 or so years away, and he'd still be behind guys like West and Simpson IMO. |

I like what Stoney's done here. Vardy even when he develops into an AFL-playing Ruckman probably isn't going to be a very good scorer (think Simon Taylor), and while Dyson is no world beater he is a consistent scorer who will give Stoney some short term help. |

I would also suggest that Dyson would have a little bit more trade value than Vardy? |

It's a funny one, it is all about youth, but I want "the best" youth... Vardy didn't exactly fit that mould. He's a while off in a team that has several ruck options, whereas Dyson is 24. Not super young, but far from past his prime. My goal is a premiership within 3 years, so not in 2010/2011... but 2012. I'm not really looking at waiting for all my young players to fully develop, rather until they get some good trade currency and I can off-load them for very good players that can turn my team into a premiership threat by 2012. Basically, despite what people say, I think Dyson has considerable upside. He's 24 (most players peak at 26-27), and averages 74. Was last year awarded Essendon's most improved player, and was given more opporunities under Knights in 2009. In my eyes, there's no reason that as the Essendon midfield play more games/seasons together, Dyson's scores will rise accordingly. I'm not saying he'll ever be 100+, but an average of 85-90 isnt out of the question if you look closely at his role/improvement over the last few seasons. I dont think Vardy will ever be an 85 scorer... nor is my team in desperate need of a young ruckman with Naitanui and McEvoy (who I believe are the best 2 over the best 4 ruckman under 23 y/o). That said, Vardy looks good I agree, but Spud your off the mark my friend. As someone who is religous about Geelong as anyone, I would have to say that Dawson Simpson is definitly next in line after Ottens/Blake. And then West and Vardy would be battling it out for the 4th ruck spot - and given West has a few more kgs on him, in the short term he is definitly odds on to play a senior game ahead of Vardy in 2010/11... which = zero trade value for Vardy in my eyes. |

Dawson is just clumsy though, His got massive height, but compared to Vardy his agility, skills, jump are nothing. Vardy jumped all over him and west in the last intra club game i saw, and blake was simply struggling to keep up around the ground with. I understand your reason to trade him.. but yeah.. it's none of my business. as long as both parties are happy. |

Yeah Dawson, Blake and West are all useless gimps imo... but from the summer I've seen, all are ahead of Vardy, hopefully I'm wrong - at the end of the day I'd prefer to see him come on and be a star than sit back and hope he doesnt bcoz i traded him on AFFL - but yeh, cant see it happening. Mate, everyone is entitled to an opinion on a forum... no bad blood, alls good mate. |
