Like some others think the penalty is way to harsh. Also agree that everyone had ample time to get the delistings done.

quoting RLL from here

http://s8.zetaboards.com/AFL2009/topic/8150334/1/#new

"Please make sure your lists are up to date because if they're not, there will be penalties."

"Remember, if you're not within the limits by draft time, then all your hard earned picks will be forfeited! "

assumed leniency would not be forthcoming
That was because I was under the impression that it was in the rules. Hadn't actually checked to be honest.

And again, as I said earlier, I was still seeking trades for some delisting candidates up until draft time, hence why I hadn't delisted anyone.

To have any chance of getting your picks rll you'll definitely have to have your list at 35 asap.

I think each pick should be pushed back ten.

Or the first pick taken away.

IMO there has to be some penalty. The date was know for a while and the choice to leave it to the last minute was each coaches. There was a penalty noted in the thread by an admin for late submission. What is the point of having penalties if they are just waved.

I agree that they may be too harsh but it was the admin who obviously came up with the penalty.

3 days late.

First 3 picks pushed back to the end of their round/next round? 1 pick = 1 day.

Melbourne picks: 35, 36, 41, 57.

Push the top 3 back to the end of the round = 50, 51, 52, 57.

Just an idea.

The end of the round will punish bottom teams but not top teams. Has to be either 10 picks or a full round (16 picks)

Rules are rules...

Might be harsh, but you need commitment in games like these, as soon as you start showing leniency and start making exceptions the game loses it's integrity.

As for the rules being changed, well that's another issue and it is something the mods should consider IMO...

True, but then 10 picks does the same. Has to be full round.

Well you'd best make a decision quick, as his first pick is only 10 away...

I'll agree with having my current picks pushed back to the end of that round.

Edit: Just realised that'll only actually change one pick. Assuming that's a pretty poor penalty. If they are pushed back to the end of the next round, it makes them almost useless to me. I feel that would be too harsh of a penalty given how shallow this draft is and also how late they already are.
Perhaps I just lose my first pick?

I think a 10-16 pick penalty on the first 2 picks should be locked in for all future drafts to cover this.

I just got a penalty of around 13 picks because I wasn't around on the first 2 days of the draft. I didn't have months to take my pick, it just turns out that the draft couldn't have started at a worse time for me.

I did everything that's been required of me up until that time but losing pick 8 has screwed me. It sucks big time but that's life :(

Well TBH I don't really care either way, there's not going to be a great deal of quality left at his picks anyway...

I just want to know if the situations were reversed and it was me or another one of the coaches in this situation what RLL would believe the penalty should be, if he can tell us all that he would only take off my first pick then I am happy to go along with that being his punishment.

Was it a family emergency for you?

You see though you could have put in a preference list, then someone could have taken your pick for you.

I'm being completely honest here, and I know some people on this site won't believe me and that's fair enough, but if it were any other coach, and the circumstances and draft picks were the same then I'd be thinking that losing the first pick was a fair punishment.

No, it wasn't a family emergency for me but I expected to be available on Monday which didn't eventuate.

Yes, I could have sent a preference list but the same could be said about you delisting players any time before the deadline.

I have to accept the fact that my pick was skipped and wouldn't expect anything other than that given the fact I had a chance to cover myself by submitting a preference list just in case. You had months to delist players but didn't cover yourself either.

As I've said numerous times, some delisiting candidates were part of trade talks up until the deadline. I wasn't able to give in a preference list for my delistings like you were for your draft pick.
With all due respect, I don't think the situations are the same and therefore shouldn't be linked.

Just because you chose to leave it until the last minute doesn't change the fact that you had months to do it.

I didn't submit a preference list because I thought I'd be able to take my pick on time. You didn't delist your players because you thought you'd be able to do that on time.

Unfortunately things didn't go as we planned. But we both had an opportunity to cover ourselves and didn't :(

All of the other 15 coaches managed to get the delistings in on time.

You had ample time to make delistings, but I guess you took a risk and decided to leave your delistings right until the end. And sometimes risks backfire, as it has on this occasion.

We can't be lenient here, because it sets a precedent for leniency
