Hi all,

We've had a few issues recently with TBA/TBC injuries and what constitutes an LTI, so we've come to a soft ruling regarding it.

While we hope it's not a can of worms, we've decided to implement a commonsense policy. Quite simply, if a player is listed as TBA/TBC or similar and you have reason to believe they will miss >8 weeks, then you can LTI them. By the same token, other coaches are able to question your LTI in these situations if something seems a bit off - if the sitewide consensus is that it's not likely to be an LTI, then it won't count. We don't foresee this being an issue due to the still rarity of TBA listed players. We trust coaches to make the right decisions - for example, if a concussion is listed as TBA, but no word has emerged about it since the hit, it probably does not count under this ruling. But in the case of a Liam Picken - where the evidence suggests he's missing a significant amount of time - that would count. It would help to elaborate on the reasoning behind the LTI in the thread when listing the player

Some key groundrules:
- retirements do not count as LTIs
- mental health issues do not count as LTIs
- if you list a player under this ruling, but he returns (i.e. either leaves the official injury list OR plays a competitive game) earlier than expected, your upgrade is void from then on

Cheers

So I have as an example Sean Darcy listed as a PCL TBC... PCLs are a minimum 8 week Injury generally... So I can LTI him?

I thought the rule was gonna be if you injury list a TBC player and the player comes back before 8 weeks it invalidates your upgrade but also you can't use the player you injury listed until the 8 weeks is up?

This. If they come back early you shouldn't have had the upgrade in the first place. My hope would be that if you LTI a player, they're ineligible for 8 weeks no matter what.

Good way to prevent the 'if a player just has a concussion and is listed as TBC you shouldn't LTI him' example provided in the OP.

Players return from genuine LTIs quicker sometimes too, I don’t think it’s fair to punish for a genuine elevation. We will discuss though.

@ pinny - Darcy would be a perfect example

No they don't. Being the sad loser with no friends that I am, I looked it up. AFL rules state 'an injured player transferred to a club's LTI list is ineligible to play in the AFL competition or a state body competition for a minimum period of 8 weeks'.

I think it makes sense to have anybody you choose to LTI locked out for 8 weeks, otherwise there's no risk. 'If your player comes back before 8 weeks, your upgrade is void from then on'. Well if I didn't put the player on the LTI list in the first place then my upgrade would've been void from the start, so I still haven't lost anything by LTI'ing him. I think if a coach wants to name somebody listed as 'TBC' or 'indefinite' as an LTI, then they should have to weigh up the risks of what if that player does come back before 8 weeks. Otherwise you could just LTI anybody on your list who's listed as indefinite willy-nilly with no consequences for getting it wrong. Dr Colbs will have a field day.

Dr. Colbs will be meticulously scouring through the LTI thread after today's announcement..
