Waivers are the fucking bomb in fantasy sports.

If we’re wanting trades - we’re apready significantly losing the battle.

If we’re wanting “activity” - waivers is a great idea.
This makes no sense to me.

First of all, when did we give up on trying to increase trade volume? IMO any major decision regarding the actual gameplay of the site should be revolved around trying to increase this. If we're just "ehh fuck it" about trading now then really wtf are we doing? Even if y'all are fed up and jaded enough to cbf trying to proactively increase trade volume, surely we're not going the other way and actually looking to reduce it? That would be a very bleak decision for AFFL IMO.

Secondly, what 'activity' does waivers bring exactly? Someone posts a name in a thread and then edits their list? By the same token the delistings thread is great for activity too. Quick! Reduce list sizes to 25 to increase to amount of delistings! Carn. Talking about introducing waivers for 'activity' when the alternative proposal is a whole new site-wide draft is absurd to me.

I think both Stoney and Schulz raises good points. Maybe we cut list sizes to increase the need for waivers and the quality of players available?
Too much hard work to nut out on a day like today.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone x

I tap out. Not because I think Colby’s right, but because I literally can’t be fucked.

Also who ever mention site wide redraft?

I’m already out if that’s being proposed.

The temp outside has very little to do with my apathy towards your novel of a response.

I like waivers.

You don’t.

Time saved.

Soooo......how do waivers work exactly?
ESPN

Waivers Overview
Waivers are the process by which owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team's roster in the league. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears. The team that puts a claim on a player - and who has the higher waiver priority number - will receive the player.

Basically it’s like an ongoing draft, and when somebody you like gets delisted, you can effectively “draft” that player.

More of an American fantasy sport thing.

Won’t get up on here, but it’s still cool.

So, it's the PSD/MSD except it runs all year?

eg: I saw Harry Morrison in round 23 last year, did a search to find out who has him. No one did, so he'd be part of the waiver pool. Do I have to trade with the guy that has priority 1 or do I place a bid and hope someone with a higher priority doesn't shark my pick?

Could either do a public waiver system (which would be a disadvantage in your situation esk), or a private one where you pm your pick to the admin.

You don’t have to trade for waiver 1, you could have waiver 16, bid on a player that nobody else does, and get the player.

Waiver order is just who gets priority if multiple clubs bid on the same player.

Once you use a waiver, you go to the back of the que.

On the basis that I currently have list space, there's one currently undrafted player who I'd like on my list, and I'd theoretically have #1 priority in the waiver wire to start off with after winning the spoon last year, I'd like to withdraw my previous comments and throw my full support behind the waiver wire.

I think though that if we do have the waiver wire then we should scrap the MSD. No point having both.

Also maybe the wire gets switched off over the bye weeks? Would be a bit lame if come Round 12 everyone just waived their Round 12 bye spuds to bring in a bunch of Round 11 bye spuds.

I think that waivers might encourage trading due to lowering the value of players as a whole

Personally I’d leave it on all season.

Theoretically, most players on an AFFL list would > anyone on the waiver wire (baring and extreme exceptions)... So I couldn’t see a situation where som Be would waive a massive amount of their list (and years of hard work) due to a bye-round matchup.

Also if you were desperate enough to win a bye round matchup, you’re faced with the dilemma:

Do I waive someone who I would definitely keep otherwise, for the sake of enhancing my chances this wk?

They’re good dilemmas to be faced with IMO.

One thing I do like about the waiver wire compared to the other two ideas is that waiver wires are quite a common thing with other draft based fantasy games. I don't think we want to get too out there with ideas like tradeable coaches and especially the stadium idea, but you could introduce a waiver wire without it going against standard fantasy game practice.

Yeah the coaches idea came from Fantasy NBA.com in 2000/01

I always thought it was a unique concept that nobody else did, so could be a cool POD.

That said, no offence taken if others don’t like the concept.
