This is a great point. And everyone knows that you've gotta pay up to fill the non-midfield positions. I don't think anyone is arguing that Shabby didn't win the deal, but when you're the only coach who has posted about reversing it and that post got one like from Stife ... doesn't that say something to you? Yes very melty/salty The posting before it was confirmed was very out of line, mate. I'm sure you wouldn't like that yourself. If you were F2G, and had 5 100+ straight mids, and had Leuenberger as your ruckman, would you trade one to get maybe the 8th best ruck? And if you were Shabby and had maybe the 8th best ruck with his understudy Majak Daw (even though he's the GOAT), would you trade him out for anything less than a very good straight mid? I'm not trying to say I didn't do well in this deal, not at all, but a little bit of consideration for the thinking behind a trade wouldn't hurt, too much negativity isn't a good thing for increasing overall trade activity. |

If I'd been offered this deal by a newbie, I wouldn't have accepted it in the first place to allow somebody to post before it was confirmed, because I would've assumed it would be reversed. Apparently I'm in the minority on that point, which baffles me, but it is what it is. I understand the thinking behind the trade. F2G was desperate for a ruck so he made a shit trade to get one. No experienced coach would've made that trade before Round 1 (before finals, maybe, but not Round 1). It's easily identifiable as a rookie mistake, I made a similar mistake when I was an AFML rookie. It's exactly the sort of 'take a big value hit to fill a need' trade that I think newbies should be protecting from making. Edited by Schulzenfest, Mar 23 2017, 12:05 PM.

Hickey to average 100 I don't think it's that big of a deal |

Yeah, I get the objection to the deal, but I'm reasonably happy with it. I think no 3rd man up rule will help all Ruckmen score more (5 points for a hitout to advantage). 1 hit out to advantage a game more is an instant 5 point a game increase. I can see some scope for improvement with Hickey. There are 2 stand out (relatively young) Ruckman - Gawn/Grundy. All the other good Ruckman are either 30 or very close to it (Sandi, Goldstein, Mumford etc). I think a midfielder (even a very good one like Coniglio) is easier to replace than a Ruck, Leuenberger doesn't cut it for me as a first ruck (but is adequate backup). When you look at the hitouts stat from last year it went - Gawn (difficult to get), Goldstein, Mumford, Jacobs (all getting on a bit) then Hickey. It is partly a gut feel thing but I think in a couple of years Hickey could be a top 3 - 5 ruck, then again I could have completely stuffed it up (and if so I will live with it). |

Tom Hickey playing VFL this week. Too late now but it's baffling that this trade wasn't reversed. |

I think this trade is grounds for Hawthorn's coach to be sacked. |

As Hawthorn's coach I am happy to accept your proposed trade reversal. I'll also take extra for the backdated stress on my playing list. |
