Good friend of mine over in WA took his TS50 T3 to a local panel shop this week for a polish, they left it out front for five minuites with the keys in the ignition (yeah, go figure) and now it's gone. Car is Black manual with Brenbo's and :shooting2: blue / black trim, 25,000 kays on it. Build number 001, WA rego is AW59WA. Love to chat with the new owners if possible, prior to handing their charred remains over to the powers that be.

Happy ending, the guy's wife was with friends at a kids birthday party at Macca's and what should pull in but the TS50, albeit with different number plates. As soon as the prick walked away she called hubby, cops and then parked right behind it. Luckily hubby got there first and was able to discuss the issue breifly with the car theif before the police arrived to take him away. It turns out that the car had a boot load of stolen goods as well as some little white bags of something, and about twenty mobile phones. There was a bag of rags and a bottle of petrol on the passenger seat too, looks like he got it in the nick of time.
Alls well that ends well!

Yeah, seems he had to use a form of sign language as the poor chap didn't seem to understand him at first. Apparently he got it after a bit though.

Hey, an important thing to remember with some panel shops. They do not always hire people with degrees nor are they commonly known for being heavily populated by deep thinking articulate philosopher types.
I have met some very switched on clever and talented panel and paint guys over the years, but i know a hell of a lot more who are drongoes quite capable of backing a car off a hoist while it's six foot in the air too.

Ha that reminds me of a previous boss i had that stripped his plymouth baracuda 440 six pack on a two poster hoist.
He spent weeks stripping it back, fitted ultra rare nos quarter panels, floor panels etc, and had the car dent and rust free.
Had it sitting on the two poster fully stripped and proceded to remove he last part on it - the steering box.

This caused the front to become lighter than the rear and the ol cuda aimed for the stars and then slid backwards off the hoist,falling/bouncing about 4-5ft straight onto its bum. Kinked his brand new 1/ panels both sides.
not happy jan. :lightning:

A friend of mine brought a ba xr8 when they came out. had it 2 weeks drove it from vic to sa and lost 5th gear. took it to a ford dealer for repairs. they had it on a hoist over the weekend in the air with a ts30 parked under the hoist to save room. but forgot to lock the hoist and over the weekend it lost hydraulic pressure and proceeded to eat the ts30. would have loved to be in the workshop monday morning, lol

I have been in the automotive industry all of my mere 34 years, i have been a full time mechanic for 17 years, i have run my own buisness for 5 years and i can honestly say that keys are not left in cars "at all" unless you are an arsehole looking to get the sack, or you have self righteously determined that the car is not worth stealing. Most workshops (good ones) have a key policy that staff sign on acceptance of full time employment. Failure to meet standards set out in the policy get you the sack.

As for panel beaters and spray painters, most of the new school (i work to live not live to work) losers cant get high enough on all the free thinners in the world, so (the ones ive had the misfortune of paying to carry out work on much loved cars) they become dependant on substances not commonly found in panel shops (more commonly found in bikey club houses) and generally have the negative attitude described by our friend on this forum who is restoring his landau (he knows what i mean).
As for Ford Dealerships, that is normal, im suprised they did not find a way to blame the guy who owned the BA for the flatter than a shit carters hat (TS30)?
