Hi all, my first real car was an XA coupe almost 20 years ago, I lost it about 5 years later which is my biggest regret, I have been searching for another for the last 7 years and finally found one in fantastic condition, she is almost complete, just missing a bit of chrome and had a reasonable hit in the front passenger side guard. only serious rust is along the passenger roof sill,
She is 08/72 XA fairmont coupe in yellow glow 302 with t bar c4 auto, and happily all matching numbers.
i have restored a few cars but this one is my dream come true.
during my search i had some great ideas of doing some awesome colour and building a crazy motor, but now i feel i have to restore her to original (plus i promised the guy that arranged the sale)
i am hoping i can get some advice from this forum along the way, maybe even the odd spare,
she is now almost completely stripped, i am in the process of paint stripping before she goes to the sandblaster, (as may be doing same yellow glow in a 2 pak rather than acrylic), new sill needs to be replaced,
looking at suspension options - diff options
Thank you for your input / advice / ideas, they are greatly appreciated. i will try to add a picture (i have a lot of work ahead)

Welcome wardy, What state are you in?.

If you havnt done so already, fill out the membership aplication to get access to the members area....and see all the topics.

Coupe looks nice and complete. Always good when your about to start a resto, Nothing worse than having to spend more on parts than what you do getting the body and paint done. :veryhappy:

Thanks for the welcome Eddy
We live in Brisbane southside.

i thought i completed the membership form a little while ago, but i am doing it again just in case - i had spent days searching the web for car clubs and forums - this site is awesome - to find not just people with a passion for the classics - but to find genuine coupe lovers, whos passion is specifically for the coupe, and to have several Qld memebers - this is absolute gold.
Almost finished clearing out all the other projects - mostly for kids - soon the XA will be getting all of my attention.

but you are so right, very lucky to be very complete, those little parts cost a fortune - the chromes that go around the rear wheel arch = $1000 per side (didnt buy those yet, still looking) And try buying a GT bonet or GT fluted guards, (i will get these made), although unsure if i will go flutes on guards as the car came with the rear vents (i am 99.9% sure these only came out on XB and XC) i think both front and rear vents may look a bit too much

Hi Wardy, Have you checked if the car is a factory GS? There is a yellow glow XA GS going around my area a few years ago, absolutely awesome! its the car that made my sway towards a coupe.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi richard -
it does have a gs dash, but the speedo is in km, so it couldnt all be original, also is Tbar and has the gt style grill with spots, so it does seem to have GS options but unsure what was standard to the fairmont, i believe the only way to tell is to check if is GS, option 55 is on plate, but the XA only had 1 compliance plate and no options section to stamp.
i would like to research that further.

The history for at least the last 10 years shows it was registered in QLD until 2005. (I found old rego papers in the car, and the owner had a pension discount - good sign lol)

Does anyone know who to write to at ford to get history??

Wardy, the plates don't have option info, only ADR info. As said b4, ring 13 FORD, ask for a old vehicle report.

thanx for the suggestion (2 call Ford)

Thought i would let you know - how things of changed

I was transfered to someone in India - i gave them my plate details and i was advised i will be called back within 3 working days

All good - its not like i am in any hurry - just having a little chuckle that to find out more info about a classic Australian car, i need to speak to someone in india.

I will let you know how i go, my fingers are crossed it came with GS option - i wonder how many were built - XA Fairmont "GS" coupes in yellow glow, would obviously luv real GT or RPO - but then i would never be able to drive it.

I might have jumped the gun here a bit

They (Ford) called me back about 30 minutes later -

i have to fax some details to a melbourne fax no - but they gave me some details over the phone.

Options included - seat belts - road wheels (i thought wheels should be standard) left mirror - push radio - and GS

Great news

I knew the dash is GS and the grill - i dont know what else was done in the GS option - i assume they may have done somethingwith the suspension (as called Rally Pack)

Can anyone tell me more???

You guys are great
