What are peoples thoughts?

Is it the Media's fault for releasing the Panorama programme the week before the bid?

Is it the fans in Birmingham?

Or how about FIFA?

Personally, Panorama's timing wasn't great but then the research was taking place for months, maybe years before the vote. All the people in question will have known about the programme, i very much doubt the actual programme would have made much difference, unless the programme had actually turned up that they weren't corrupt...

In reality the programme should have been released over two or three years ago if they had the proof (not sure if they did) so that the fall out could've been sorted. I do agree with Andy Anson when he says "When there are only 22 guys that gives them too much influence." too few people, too many corrupt people in positions of power.

22 votes from 22 countries but 208 countries are in FIFA. Once all of them have a vote then we might see some fairness starting. One other thing that needs changing is the double bid process, two votes happening at same time meant too much collusion.

Not going to get started on the Russians and how i think they bought the vote.

One last thing, Brazil seem fucked at the moment so we might end up getting the 2014 as we're supposed to be the back up for them!

I'm already fed up of hearing about how England "wuz robbed".

Did anyone REALLY believe we were going to get it even before the Panorama sideshow? FIFA don't give a fig about the everyday fan - Blatter is more interested in making a name for himself in the history of football. Look at recent/future World Cups Japan/Korea (taking football to the Far East); Germany (had to be in Europe once in a while and look who gets it); South Africa (African based World Cup - lets have a photo opportuntiy with Nelson); Brazil (only country to enter a bid after FIFA announced it would definitely be in S America); Russis (more Blatter World domination; Qatar (even more Blatter history making).

People surely aren't foolish enough to believe that it's the quality of the bid and the supposed support (or lack of) of the national press and government???

I thought we might have stood a chance, until i watched the programme, then i realised that we'd never get it due to just how corrupt they were.

Always knew they were bent but that confirmed it all. There was a good post on Waccoe - taken from Soccernet i think - about how Blatter got in and how Havelange got him the job in the first place.

The world cup went to who Blatter wanted it to go to, everything else was just secondary.

i think if the england bid had come 2nd with 7 or 8 votes, then this would have been brushed under the carpet as 'oh well, we tried our best' but the fact we got 1 vote from the, apparently, best bid, screams of injustice....

FIFA are a monopoly organisation that needs to be broken up.....

So am I.

If anyone was robbed I think it was the Australians over 2022. A sports mad country with a growing reputation in football and with a proven track record of hosting events like the Olympics, Rugby World Cup and Cricket World Cup. They were going to drop out of the bidding earlier in the year but were told to stay in as they had such a great bid but that just looks like they were told that by the people in FIFA to give them another country to play off against the others in the chase for votes.

For me it was the Australian vote as well as ours that reeks of corruption

2 very strong bids and 3 votes between us, 2 of which were our own !!!

The whole thing is a farce
