Its the best phone I have ever had, BUT that is because I'm a Mac user, and it syncs calendars etc effortlessly. Windows users have nearly all phones that would do that anyway. Battery life is bad, get used to charging it every night. Brilliant screen for movies, great music player etc, etc. I got a s/h 8GB 3G, and would deffo recommend 16Gb. There are so many applications for it, such as Sat nav, weather, skype, and 100,000+ other on the App store. One called TV plus that you can set your Sky+ box to record remotely, Shazam where you hold up the iPod to a radio when you don't know the name of a song, and it tells you what it is........
Web and email brilliant on it. The perfect business phone (for me) I was thinking of getting a netbook for holidays etc, but the iPhone will do it all for me.

I'm looking at the iPhone at the mo for similar reasons ie I'm already with Orange
Also like Fitz I'm a mac user and the syncing of calendars, contacts, emails etc is excellent
I have a 16GB iPod touch and it's great for surfing the web, reading emails etc
I usually have at least 1 film, all my higher rated music, 4 or so TV shows, several podcasts/itunes U lectures and it's never been more than 2/3rds full.
But I would struggle with 8GB as it's always been a minimum of half full.
I did have a Nokia N80 which synced well with my macs using bluetooth but the battery life was shocking, on one trip to Russia I remember having to look for a seat next to a socket in the cafe at Heathrow to charge it up, I'd left home about 4 hours earlier!!! I needed to be able to use it in St Petersburg in case I had probs at the airport! It also used to get the grey screen of death and the only way to sort it was to pull the battery. It was also too bulky and it slid open every time you put it in your pocket or took it out. This is why I got an ordinary phone and an iPod touch. However having got on so well with the touch, the iPhone looks very attractive. I see they are offering tethering but I haven't seen a cost for that! And why is there a 750GB limit for using Wi-Fi ffs?!

Best phone by a mile, purely and simply because it's got all the stuff you carry around in one device.

I've got work calendar, uni calendar and personal stuff all on there and iTunes just looks after it all. All the apps turn it from a very good phone to an excellent one though. So many things that can be done and so easily as well.

I've got a box (Slingplayer) connected to my Virgin + box at home which can stream my tv channels to my laptop, there's now an app which you can use for iphone or itouch. Absolutely superb. Usually can only use on wifi - but if you jailbreak it you can use it on Edge/3G.

Tethering is ok, but for the money you pay and the amount you'll probably use it's not worth it. Unless you need to have the full screen for work. But i find just doing bits and pieces is easier on the phone.

AND i'd always go for the extra memory option because you'll be constantly swapping things on and off with an 8gb one. 16gb is good - i've got 1500 songs, 22 videos of various lengths, 180 photos and 42 apps, with 4gb left of space for messages, emails etc.

THE biggest difference for me over other smart phones is the iPhone is so much more than a phone, it's more like a laptop that is also a phone.
There are a lot of business apps too, for invoicing etc and one company is close to producing a credit card reader for the iPhone.
They have said it costs less than $1 to make the reader that plugs into the iPhone!

I'm sure Google with Android will close the gap over the next couple of years but where will the iPhone be in 2 years time?
Apple are already looking at a cloud-integrated sync service to simplify transferring files between devices.
And are apparently testing RFID swipe support, radio frequency ID which is a technology that will allow a device to sense chips
in nearby objects without making direct contact and without using visible light, like a barcode reader.
This will allow touchless tech like swiping your iPhone near a reader at a toll booth or vending machine.

You use the internet connection on your phone to connect your PC/laptop to the internet

I recently used a change in broadband provider as an excuse to get Apples Airport Express.
I've plugged my speakers (HK soundsticks) into the Express and so can now send me music wirelessly to them speakers - tidy.
Also when I hav the need to be a full on geek, I use the remote app on the iPod to control the music, just to impress myself I think!?
Mind you I didn't realise you could only stream audio from iTunes, but then I found a fix called Airfoil which allows you to play Audio from pretty much any application like Spotify to the Airport Express speakers.
It's available from www.rogueamoeba.com for $25, (there is a trial version) and I think a Windoze version!

The only problem I've found after using the iPod touch is that when I have to use the satnav at work the touch screen responds too slowly and you feel like lobbing Garmin out the window!

I would recommend a house phone any day. I use mine to ring my mates and arrange to meet them at the pub or somewhere. It's great.
I'd also suggest you get out of the house and see real bands playing live music. End of review.

:P for clarity.
