In a probably doomed attempt to start a conversation... I thought I'd bring up Man City - their £££, their conduct and their prospects. When Delph left, KB had a dig at MC's conduct during the transfer negotiations, and now Everton look to have cause for complaint, with Hughes persisting to state his interest in Lescott, despite being told to sod off and JL having had a transfer request turned down. What effect will the new-found wealth have on their youth system? Admittedly I've not been paying too much attention - what with us being 2 divisions lower - but I got the impression Chelsea were building a team for now and the future by poaching youngsters to fill their youth team, but I don't get that impression with MC. Finally, do you think that their £££ will buy them any success or - with the risk of sounding like the ol'red-faced-twonk from the scum - are they nothing to worry about for the top 4? Personally, I'd love Everton and Villa to finish above them and piss on their bonfire. |

I have mixed feeelings about this I'd like to see the old red faced hypocrit eat his words from his little (by his stds) rant about City I've not taken a close interest in the Prem for some time But I do enjoy others getting in the mix as Villa did for a time last season If Scum could be kept out of the top two that would be nice Even if it's Chelski and the Gooners Villa and Spurs are possible thorns in the side of the big spenders And I include Scum in that, they may be broke but they still have clout in the tranfer market It'll never happen but I'd love to see FIFA rule that you can't compete in European comps if your club is in debt How many of Europes so called top clubs would that effect?!! We might even get a game |

What goes around comes around for Everton. Quite happy to poach our youngsters, yet cry foul of City's approach. |

I really don't understand the point of the rules against tapping up players. No-one seems to abide by them and the pursuit of players (often against the stated wishes of the owning club) through the media seems to be the normal way of doing business in the top leagues these days. |

What is more important for the game is that when a bigger club comes in for an academy player, the league makes sure the lower or non-league club get fair compensation so that academy's thrive at all levels of the game. |

BR's point is the most salient. As long as the clubs that nurture the player get compensation, they will keep producing new players. The rules about tapping up or poaching players need to be enforced or scrapped as it is a joke as we have seen, and probably used by ourselves at some stage. |

Back on topic..... I think Citeh are just doing what anyone else would do - it's just that they have the wherewithall to do it. Let's face it, if it was us we'd love it if some mega rich bloke came in. I suspect Sparky wants to build up a Club and not a side so will want to focus on development throughout and not just in the 1st team. I actually hope they do well - nice to see things being mixed up a bit |

The PL was all about money a long time before Chelski and Man Shitty started throwing their money about. All thats happened is that the numbers have got bigger. Old Red nose is a fucking hypocrite if he moans about Man Shitty. Scum were buying the league a long time before either of them were. Now someone has come along with more money, he is crying into his porridge.....

Never minded Hughes to be honest. He falls into that "players I hate but secretly admire and would have loved them to play for Leeds" bracket. Along with Ian Wright, Martin Keown, and Dennis Wise....... |

You can't blame a manager for making the most of a dream situation but given the money available any true footballer would want to give a fair amount for an academy player Re the Lescott situation...we've been here before, either the rules should be enforced or they need to look at the whole situation again |

never really like Man City, dunno why just thought they were a bit annoying, bizarrely Mark Hughes is someone i quite like despite his Man U and Chelsea connections. The two together just doesn't fit right for me. As for their money, i think all that can happen in this situation is bad things, eventually. Man City are going to buy a lot of players, everyone else will need to raise wages to compete/keep players. They'll go off and buy more and more top foreign players making the country even worse when it comes to internationals (is that a cheer i hear from the Irish contingent?) and then we'll end up with everyone else needing to buy at over inflated prices to compete. After the merry go round of all this crap (if the owners haven't got bored already) FIFA and UEFA will need to act and bring the same restrictions we used to have and stop as many foreign players playing in England. Will over inflate the price of English players and we'll start again. Then i think the owners will get bored and Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U could well find themselves going into freefall like we did, but on a much much higher scale. |

To be honest i'm getting prety much pissed off with the way football is progessing and have been for a while - I love the atmosphere and build up on match days but cant be arsed listening to all the hype & shite that goes with it. Was watching Match of the Day last Saturday and Hanson and Shearer were going on about Arsenals win over Everton and how Lescott shouldn't have been on the pitch due to his mind being elsewhere with thoughts of wanting out and moving to Citeh. At the end of the day he's a highly-paid professional footballer and if he can't focus on his job and then dock his wages and stick him in the reserves that'll sort his head out. Too many fookin highly-paid prima donna's in the game now and too many managers pandering to them -still what do you expect when Joe Public class the likes of Katie Price and Peter Andre as talented celebrities and give them the attention (and money) they crave. The sooner this planet get its priorities right the better! Edited by Kev Walker, 19th August 2009 - 03:01 PM.

Has anyone else noticed the increasing numbers of Citah shirts walking down the high street? Supporting a club with a sucessful past and have done since Joe Mercer was the manager? - nope! Supporting a club that has had great sucess in the PL and Europe in recent seasons? - nope! Supporting a club that is the richest in the world? - Refer to the Carlsberg advert for the answer! Looks like it's not just me that's pissed off with the game! Edited by Kev Walker, 20th August 2009 - 12:56 PM.
