Perhaps this is why Lorimer is trying to smooth over the Smith situation because he will be brought in as Beckford's replacement  We would be mad to sell Beckford for the amount we would be likely to get for him. His goals to help us to promotion will be far more valuable come the end of the season. When we get promoted he will then sign a new contact. |

He hasn't gone yet...but I'll be proper pissed if he does The only way this is acceptable is if he wants to go, but I've not got that impression That said he hasn't agreed to a new contract I'd like to see Smith back but not instead of Beckford |

I can't be arsed looking back, but what were the fees discussed when Beckford was initially put on the transfer market? £2m sounds very small for the value his goals could make... double it and we're getting in the region of "every player has a price." Being someone who plays very little attention to football thats not Leeds - what are WBAs chances of going up this season? I could understand JB wanting to go to someone near the top of the chumps, but not really if we could be in the same league next season anyway. |

Agreed Beckfords contribution could well be worth more than £2m if he gets anywhere near last seasons performance WBA will be a complete unknown but I bet Beckfords agent will be making a case for a fat bonus Edited by Bay Rebel, 5th August 2009 - 04:04 PM.

WBA probably have a good chance of going up again this season but with a new manager in charge they might take too long to settle and miss the boat. |

I think the fact that Bekford is a little light weight and never really proved himself at Chumps level is the thing that is keeping the price down. Anyway, he is not going. |

Albion deny making offer for Jermaine Beckford Aug 5 2009 by Chris Lepkowski ALBION have today denied claims that they have made an offer for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford. Sources in Leeds claim the Baggies have an interest in the 25-year-old and have been monitoring his situation for some time. Albion have opted not to comment on that speculation but have moved quickly to deny lunchtime reports that they have made a bid of around £2million for the striker, who has scored 54 goals in 100 appearances for Leeds. Whether the Baggies will decide to formalise their interest remains to be seen but Leeds will be unwilling to cash in on Beckford this close to the new campaign, not least as Fabian Delph was sold earlier this week. I would be very suprised if we accepted 2 million, even Bates knows, it will be worth more than that, to keep him as with him in the side, im sure we will get promoted, without him i reckon its the play offs again. Think final decision will be with Beckford and his twat of an agent, it wont stop Bates getting the blasting if Beckford goes though. |

Agreed, promotion will be worth far more in the long run than the £2m being mooted for Beckford. C'mon Beckford, bin your money grabbing agent and sign a new deal :wave |
