I see the propaganda crap has begun already. Stories leaked about excessive demands. Smears appearing before the announcement on certain websites.

Wouldnt it be nice if, just for once, the club didnt treat its support with the sheer contempt it obviously views us in.

If Beckford wants to go, let him. But if the club want rid for the fee, have the balls to admit it.
What stories and smears do you mean? All I've read is that the club have made an offer they can afford and he's rejected it. A scenario that happens often when a player has 12 months of his contract left
Balti thinks he's back on WACCOE....... :banghead:
No I dont. But a couple of days before this annoncement, there were suddenly stories from "club sources" about Beckford and his agent trying to force a transfer out. We have indeed seen all this before. Leak snippets to try and spin the fact that the club are

1. Selling their best player
2. Unwilling, it appears to negotiate with said player.

I tire of generated bullshit. I remember the appaling shit thrown at Gary Kelly when he left, and others. It smacks yet again of the powers that be at Leeds hiding contraction, and lack of ambition, behind the greedy player smokescreen.

Another summer of sales, free transfers and loans?

Lets hope not, eh.

What price an ounce of footballing ambition, eh?
Here's an idea, maybe the club sources, were.... der der der.... *dramatic pause* telling the truth.....

Maybe Beckford does want out and has asked for too much money?
Maybe.

Maybe Beckford IS just another greedy Bastard who deserves shipping out.

I dont discount that at all.

But the club have "form" so as to speak. I suppose we should all await to the first kick in August before we comment about the clubs ambition.

But the events of the last few days are mirroring the events of 2006 and 2008.

So near, but followed by chronic lack of ambition, to be generous, or malicious downsizing of a club more interested in land and hotels, to be paranoid.

The truth, in my opinion does lies somewhere between the two. :(

This summer will decide our future as a club for the next decade, IMO. We either intend to escape the lower leagues, or we dont. Failure this season simply cannot be contemplated.
Some of the clubs 'form' you refer to Balti, comes from now assuming some past rumours as fact

I don't believe that those running the club lack ambition
I do believe that Bates knows that to make the proposed improvements as profitable as possible will require a successful team
And a successful team will need a financially sound club
To survive in the Premiership we are going to need to make as much profit as possible, from as many angles as possible

I'm not having a dig, just trying to be as possitive as I can
I'm looking forward to next season and hoping that by the end of the summer we'll have good reason to be optimistic

Thought just struck me. Don't we have to come up with £9M to buy Thorp Arch by October?

Whilst I agree with some of what you've posted Balti, can you seriously see Beckford wanting to stay in L1 for another season?

It's been said for months, indeed ever since the P/O loss last year, we have to go up or we'll lose Beckford. And then from the emergence of Delph, it's been We have to go up or we'll lose Beckford and Delph.

It's hardly a shock that the best player at a club that almost got promoted want's to leave to move up, is it?

For Beckford to stay, we would have to give him a King's ransom every week, and then what price failure next year?
For me this sums it up exactly...

His agent is now quoted as saying that our offer was extremely generous for league one - we can't expect the club to gamble on offering more than we can afford, and I trust Bates never to do that. Likewise I don't believe he will try to make quick £££, at the expence of the team, as he knows there is loads more money in a successfull club.

I hoped Bates would put in many many sly clauses such as 'non-promotion release for £xxx' and substantial pay rise if we were promoted etc - and that this would tempt Beckford to gamble on another season with us - since he could be made to sit out his contract anyway and then we'd still get some money next season. Win-win.

I reality, Beckford was never likely to stay if we didn't get promoted - unless we broke the bank.

I don't blame Beckford all for that - but I am glad we didn't.

(Edit: corrected spelling)
