I wouldn't have thought that Newcastle would have that sort of money to spend on a lower league player, although I'm sure Bates will take every penny he can get for him. |

sad news that we are losing our top striker and will miss his 34 goals which are gonna be real hard to replace but the club must always come first so so long, farewell, auf widersehen, goodbye, slan etc. |

True, we are going to find it very difficult to replace him. I suppose I can't blame him for wating to play at a higher level but no doubt he will end up somewhere like Sunderland warming the bench like Healy. |

I see the propaganda crap has begun already. Stories leaked about excessive demands. Smears appearing before the announcement on certain websites. Wouldnt it be nice if, just for once, the club didnt treat its support with the sheer contempt it obviously views us in. If Beckford wants to go, let him. But if the club want rid for the fee, have the balls to admit it. |

Geoff, show me any club that doesn't treat it's fans with contempt. (except Burnley who have given free ST's to everyone who bought one this year). |

Not suprised at all really. Wherever he goes they'll have to work on his first touch otherwise he'll fail big time. And as Mugsey says, who are we going to replace him with??? |

I'm not saying one option is right or wrong here, no one really knows if it's the club who wants Beckford out or if it's Beckford who wants out (or even if it's both) but What's to say that Beckford wants out and Bates/Harvey has done the right thing by transfer listing a player who wants out? It might possibly be that the agent and Beckford have engineered this move to make Beckford more attractive? Everything that happens with Leeds might not always be the clubs fault. I know you put that if he wants out let him but you do launch into accusing the club of treating the support with contempt without acknowledging that the club might be doing the right thing too. Yes, i know Bates has form for this, yes i know it will probably be a way of getting Beckford out for the highest possible fee, but there is always another side. (that's enought sensible talk from me for now i think) |

There is no doubt about his finishing ability.....the goals speak for themselves....and a lot of them are spectacular.......but without the work rate can he really raise his game to a higher level?? Only time will tell whether it's with us season after next or with another club sooner. Personally i'd be more dissappointed to see Becchio go.....think he is a much more complete player. |

What stories and smears do you mean? All I've read is that the club have made an offer they can afford and he's rejected it. A scenario that happens often when a player has 12 months of his contract left |

The attitude of so many Leeds fans towards Beckford is ridiculous IMO. He is clearly one of the top players in league one and wants to play at a higher level. Most5 on WACCOE seem to think he owes Leeds something and should stall his career for them. AS for replacing him - it won't be as easy as some seem to think. Most Chairmen of League one sides would suck Bates' cock for the chance to have a player as good as Beckford on their side. You can complain all you want about his first touch and workrate/attitude (which i've never seen a problem with) but I don't see any other forward scoring at the rate he does. I think we'll go up next year anyway, as I have faith that Grayson has us on the right track and will bring in a quality replacement if Beckford leaves. However, it would be a lot easier if Beckford stays. If I was Beckford then I wouldn;t want to stay. Not after the fans get on your back every time you have a bad touch. Not when they call you shit and over rated after you score 34 goals in nearly as many game. Why should he put up with that? |

I've not seen any comments other then what is on the official web-site, if the reasons they have stated are false then I am sure Beckford or his agent would be taking legal action by now?. I don't see anything wrong in renegotiating a new contract when the player is on his final year, both parties win even if the player gets sold - more money for the club and bigger percentage for the player/agent. Clubs and player are all in it for the money - it's the peoples choice if they support them or not? |

Ken Bates makes sound financial decisions - fact He won't want to get to the end of next season with the possibility of JB leaving on a free. And I agree with the comments re fans getting on JB's his back, I can't understand why! Yes we all like to see a player give thier all, but we all know that many a top scorer falls into the 'do bugger all for 89 minutes then score the winner' bracket We all know that when Beckford was playing there was a very strong chance we'd score and so did the opposition, which is almost as useful as the goals themselves. You also have to remember that all information a club makes public, ie to the fans, is the same information that can be useful to your competitors. So you have to economical with the truth sometimes. |

You say you have confidence that Grayson is steering us in the right direction but if you think about it, he hs actually done owrse than Macca did. He came in when we were struggling to get into the playoffs (Like Macca), we suddenly started winning and got into the playoffs (Like Macca), we just missed out on the auto's (Like Macca), but then UNLIKE Macca, Grayson failed to get ut to the final despite having 2 strikers who were bang on form and a supposedly better defence ???? Before you start screaming at me, I actually agree that I think Grayson will steer us in the right direction. dont know why, but i am just confident in him. Matbe it is more in hope than belief. |

At the sponsors day some of the players were saying that they love working under him and whilst he has a laugh and joke with them he also knows how to keep them in line, that could be seen at the training session also. The guides who took us round also said that this wasn't the case with Macca who just kept his head down. (incidentally, the guides also said that Wise was a joy to work with so I could just be spouting shite!) |

Weren't we top of the table since Grayson took over? Not bad seeing as there is usually an adjustment period for a new manager. |

No I dont. But a couple of days before this annoncement, there were suddenly stories from "club sources" about Beckford and his agent trying to force a transfer out. We have indeed seen all this before. Leak snippets to try and spin the fact that the club are 1. Selling their best player 2. Unwilling, it appears to negotiate with said player. I tire of generated bullshit. I remember the appaling shit thrown at Gary Kelly when he left, and others. It smacks yet again of the powers that be at Leeds hiding contraction, and lack of ambition, behind the greedy player smokescreen. Another summer of sales, free transfers and loans? Lets hope not, eh. What price an ounce of footballing ambition, eh? Edited by Son of chicken balti pie, 27th May 2009 - 04:17 PM.

Maybe. Maybe Beckford IS just another greedy Bastard who deserves shipping out. I dont discount that at all. But the club have "form" so as to speak. I suppose we should all await to the first kick in August before we comment about the clubs ambition. But the events of the last few days are mirroring the events of 2006 and 2008. So near, but followed by chronic lack of ambition, to be generous, or malicious downsizing of a club more interested in land and hotels, to be paranoid. The truth, in my opinion does lies somewhere between the two. :( This summer will decide our future as a club for the next decade, IMO. We either intend to escape the lower leagues, or we dont. Failure this season simply cannot be contemplated. |

Whilst I agree with some of what you've posted Balti, can you seriously see Beckford wanting to stay in L1 for another season? It's been said for months, indeed ever since the P/O loss last year, we have to go up or we'll lose Beckford. And then from the emergence of Delph, it's been We have to go up or we'll lose Beckford and Delph. It's hardly a shock that the best player at a club that almost got promoted want's to leave to move up, is it? For Beckford to stay, we would have to give him a King's ransom every week, and then what price failure next year? |
