Least like you expect... 2005 !!!!!!!!!
I remember our prem relegtation day .. we'll be back bravado, too big for this division, then players you thought we'd keep go, the wannabe's who used to be good start to sign all of a sudden you get out thought in cardiff and then welcome exter.

So as the best players leave for peanuts, the vulture clubs pick the carcass (woodgatesque) and all the shite see out their fat contracts until they get a free the geordie fans will end up wondering how it could end like this.

But their is Alan Shearer an unproven manager with as is likely a group of fans who will be behind him into the 3rd division.

or maybe not .....

I think Shearer might well lose his status in Newcastle if he walks away now. He's in a difficult situation as they don't have players that they can sell for much, and only Butt has said that he will stay. The pundits on Five live were saying last night that Boro had the better chnace of going back up
Maybe now some of these clubs who have grown used to the Premeirship will realise that no one has a divine right to be there.

I was secretly wondering what Smith would do in the Holy Grail event of us going up and toon going down... after all, he did say that if we were ever in the same division again he'd come back.

Newcastle really are in deep do do, 15 players on £50k+ a week and no relegation clauses. Was Ashley taking contract advice from Ridsdale??? Only a handful are worth much in the transfer market but other clubs will take the piss like they did with us and barter for a bargain. I remember Toon fans mocking us that it was just business to do such a thing, lol.
Their fans will no doubt be back in droves next season expecting a quick return but I think that will prove to be too much pressure on whoever is managing and playing. They will be everyone's Cup Final and just like we did they will be thinking "But we shouldn't be getting beat by Sheff Weds/Reading/Scunthorpe etc etc". Opposing fans will delight in taunting them and it will hurt even more than relegation did.
And why are they so obsessed with having a Geordie as manager? How narrow minded is that? Do they really believe that no-one outside Newcastle knows how to run or manage a successful club? If anything I think it's better for the club if an ex-player doesn't come back to risk his hero status. Bremner, Clark, Gray and McAllister all tried and failed at Leeds and there's probably loads of other clubs with similar stories.
I agree with Wicky that maybe Boro will fair better in the Chumps and I think Newcastle are in for a very tricky few years.

I watched the Newcastle game. No fight, no desire, no leader on or off the field and then I watched SU v Burnley. These were not even the best in the championship, but were far better than Newcastle. They will struggle to come straight back up........and thats before the rats leave the ship.

My prediction for Newcastle is a few years of mediocrity. It is a myth about their fans: They never have had any staying power and it's true that most clubs having been relegated see their gates go down significantly once the revenue and gate money from the PSB goes away. If they get off to a ropey start (and with a new team that will be a distinct possibility) watch the 'Toon Army' disappear back to the pubs in Bigg Market. Remember the last time they were in the doldrums? They couldn't get a full house for love nor money till Keegan patched them up. Suddenly they are the best supporters in the World with the most passion???? Give me a break.
