Just received this from Richard Corbett is anyone is interested: Dear Friend, On Saturday, I formally sent off my petition to UEFA, which you kindly signed, calling on them to investigate the 1973 European Cup Winners’ Cup final between Leeds United and A.C. Milan and, should any evidence be discovered that shows the match was fixed, reverse the result and award the trophy to Leeds. No fewer than 12,200 people eventually signed it by the time it closed at midnight on May 15th – an astonishing number. The following morning – the anniversary of the match - the petition was packaged up and formally sent to the General Secretary of UEFA, David Taylor, in Nyon, Switzerland. Two weeks ago, I met with a UEFA official who promised that they would at least look at their archives to see what they said about the match at the time. I want them to take a more in depth look at the game and launch the full investigation we are demanding. If I am re-elected on 4 June, I will be visiting UEFA’s offices later in June to press the case. The number of people who signed the petition shows the continued sense of injustice about the match and the strength of feeling helped to give the petition a life of its own. Newspapers across Europe, and particularly in Italy, covered the story, while Leeds’ own Peter Lorimer, who of course played in the game, gave his support in his Yorkshire Evening Post column (which you can read here). There has also been some interest in making a TV documentary about the case. A lot of people have contacted me about the match, plenty of them asking me if I knew if there was a TV or film copy of the whole game. So far, searches for the whole match have proved fruitless. There is a minute of highlights on Youtube but very little else. If anyone does have a copy of the whole game, please get in contact with my office or the club. I will continue to keep you up to date with the petition by email and let’s hope for a positive outcome! Best wishes, Richard Corbett, Labour MEP for Yorkshire & Humber www.richardcorbett.org.uk |

:lolanimate: Delph might be goodd to have as a designated penalty taker. I reckon he has the cockiness (in a good way) to handle it. |
