Which player, from any era, was an unsung hero and didn't get the recognition he deserved?

This is how the RD500YPVS would look if it were still made today
I know that he did get a fair bit of recognition and some abuse at the end of his time with the club but I think David Batty. He was never an outstanding talent, passer of the ball, defender or goal scorer but he gave 100% and even though he was short in stature his performances were usually massive. He would dominate the midfield and was a great ball winner. 10/10 Batts.

I remember an England game when he came on in the 2nd half because England were being hammered in the 1st, against Russia I think, and it may have been a qualifier game for some comp or other. What a change in the match bringing Batts on made. He worked his little socks off and England went from being outplayed to dominating the game. Cant remember the final score though!!

Most recently, Tresor Kandol.

Hardly a 'hero', but the fella was so unrecognised it was criminal. Not the most talented, granted, but his efforts went completely unnoticed because of a lacklustre start when he looked like he thought he was Billy Big Bollocks.

Bob Fowler gets a rough deal, he netted 14 in 30 appearances, a pretty good return.

Danny Mills (IFB) too, though I'm not so sure he was 'unsung'.

Most Loves himself yet people want to be like him... 2005
I do remember when we had Ian Rush, Mark Hately AND Lee Chapman at the club, all at the same time, and all as first team strikers.
Those were the days.

Mike Jones - Clarke go the FA Cup goal but Jones was the unsung hero in my book - never forget him walking up the steps struggling with his injured shoulder
