A little rusty....
|
Folks I have not been on MB very often these days. On 8th June my Mum had a stroke, totally out of the blue. In good health til then, non-smoker, doesn't really drink, not overweight and no previous scares. She is only 76 which I can tell you is quite 'young' having spent many visits to Luton & Dunstable stroke unit. Man they are ancient in there. My mum spent 4 or 5 weeks there getting her blood thinned and starting rehab/physio. She is paralysed down the left side but can speak fairly well, not lost 'swallow' and is lucid most of the time. Does come out with a few beauties though. 'have you heard from yer Dad lately'.....well he's been dead over 20 years. After the hospital it was reccomended she be put in a home for further physio and to get her in the best possible condition before going home. That has been 4 or 5 weeks now and the place is dismal. I'm not blaming anyone, its just the system. One hour physio a day, 23 hours staring at the wall and nothing at weekends. My natural father died as mentioned over 20 years ago, my mum remarried and my step-dad has been close to me too. Last Friday he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease which will be fatal. Already he can no longer speak or swallow. He'll end up on a respirator and a feed tube. Myself and my elder sis have been taking care of everything to do with their care and its not easy. Some of you who I'm really close to Know I'm doing a degree at the moment and was hoping to be in Bradford for a year starting September. I don't know what will happen at the moment. I also run my own company too which doesn't run on its own. Well rebs, my Mum gets out tomorrow all being well and their bungalow has been fitted with various ramps and bars to help. I have sacrificed many hours in my practice to be with me mum and have only worked one day this week too. Don't know why the fuck I've posted this but needed to get it out I think. I've only really scratched the surface with whats gone on but as I think of you all as mates I needed to share. Wake up tomorrow and don't moan, enjoy the day as if its your last, I'll see you all soon I hope. MDF out. |

Realy sorry to hear your news MDF. It is sometimes better to post something like this and get it off your chest. I had noticed a lack of postings and the usual "humour" wasn't quite the same. I hope everything works out fine. ps. I thought this was going to be a DVD of your world tour. |

Aww sorry to hear all that Nick, must be a really hard time for you mate. One thing i can share is that in all the 18 years i knew my gran on me mum's side,(she died when i wsa 19) she was bed-ridden, paralysed down her right side, but believe me she was the life and soul of the party...she never once complained, and was positive about everything. Taught me that there are always people worse off, cos she always thought there were...I do hope your mum can remain positive too and that the strain of your step dad's illness doesn't impact on her too much Big hugs and stay positive xxx |

Jesus, talk about a double whammy. Sorry to hear things like this have been happening to you and yours Nick. Its a tough time for you and your Sis. Good thing you've big shoulders, mate, you'll need them now. I do hope everything works out for all concerned. Ber's Dad had a stroke nearly 11 years ago, and I foolishly thought it was better than a heart attack. Keep the chin up mate. |

Bad luck MDF. They must be really pleased have you and your sis looking after them and that's what really counts - most of us will one day reach the point where we can't look after ourselves, so all you can hope is that your loved ones are around you to help. So be proud of what you've done as it can't be easy. |

Have you ever shoed a Horse?
|
Nick this has to be the shittiest thing you have ever posted, My Nan had a stroke aged 59 so i know exactly the struggles that your Mum and your family will go through, she lost her speach as well as been paralised down her left side, made my antics in the Taps on a late saturday night distinctly amateur. I know you will do your best for both your Mum and Step Dad, completely agree about cherishing each moment. If theres anything i can do just give us a call.. |
