I've just posted this elsewhere and was wondering others views on glitter.

Quote:

We've all seen glitter being hounded by the press, but nobody can see the peodophile booking a flight tonight to fly off to a poor country to go shag a kid, usually with the child,s parents consent if enough money is offered. The politicians are now putting their twopenneth in now, but where were they when deciding that the only way a travel banning order can be issued through a court is if the police can show that the peopophile has been "active" in the last 6 months. glitter has been in jail and therefore "inactive" and consequentially would not meet the politicians criteria for a travel banning order. Only 5 peodophiles have travel banning orders and the police's hands are tied with red tape. 3,000 football fans have banning orders for football related offences.

It doesn't help when football fans sing songs about people who have not been charged or convicted with any offence and waters down the real hatred that should be kept for real peadophiles.

ps I think the "done his time" remark was aimed at people defending Dwain Chambers. You cannot change your principles just because it doesn't fit in with the popular vote. I was happy that Chambers remains banned as I am glad that glitter will be followed around by the press in case he does something else, I just worry however that nobody is watching the ones that might be in my town.

What are we expected to say, we all think he's vile.

Hardly debatable.

But the law is debatable. He is famous the press will follow him, the next bloke out of the jail might be as vile, fly back to Britain and the police have nothing to stop him flying out to another country to do the same again. It is left to charities to follow known peodophiles around and to hope other countries not allow the peodohile entry to their country.

My uncle and auntie worked as prison officers and they say its horrible to let a sex offender out because you know they are going to do it again and you'll see them back.

It's like a disease, offenders should be locked away for life especially those that fiddle with kids, it's a mental problem much worse than throwing a wobbly now and again, it's incurable and these people should be kept away from the public.

great point about the 'done his time' bit regarding chambers. I was of the ilk that he had done his time ,but, as you say, you have made me question whether this is correct. I suppose the only difference between chambers and glitter was the crime. The 2 are culturally miles apart.

WHAT! you are trying to compare taking some steriods to help make you a better runner to touching kids? You need to stop soaking your leeks in whiskey before you eat them.

i actually feel sorry for your relatives jamie, must be quite depressing going to work, knowing that its your job, to let someone like that out back on the street, knowing there going to do it to someone elses kid.

Yeah one's retired now, the other is still working in the prisons.

I suppose they get to give them a few cracks though.

I think you may have misunderstood me. When Chambers was banned the arguement from some was "Why is he banned by the BOA when his worldwide ban was up?" I made the point that there are some things in life that affects you after you've served your time. Chambers still has better performance due to his drug taking and I want him nowhere near a racetrack, glitter (by his history) will want to offend again and I don't want him anywhere near children. They have both served their times set by a judge/ruling body.

If the Olympic heptathlon silver medallist Liudmyla Blonska had been under the BOA rule she wouldn't have spoilt the games for so many people. The new silver and bronze medalists would have had their time on the podium. Nothing will happen until everyone follows the BOA's lead. Shame on any country which turns a blind eye to ensure a good medal count.

I heard on the radio today that Glitter phoned ahead to Honk Kong to arrange a VIP reception for himself and they wouldn't let him in :lolanimate:

The problem with the Glitter case is that as he is so high profile he wont be able to step out of line ever again - he probably wont even be able to step out in public again. Therefore he isnt the future problem. Those that are the problems are the publicly unknown peados. How do you protect our kids against those? Theres only one way in my book - top them all. If the evidence is overwelming it should be a case of "sorry mate, your life is a waste of oxygen - goodnight".
